Is it possible to really go through life without fear? Courage and fear are common topics throughout the scriptures. What we discover is that courage is not the absence of fear, but choosing to do the right things despite our fears. God does not supernaturally take away our fears, but He does give us confidence to face them. The beautiful thing about belonging to a community is that we don’t have to face our fears alone. In this message Pastor Erik teaches that community is the answer to Fear.
We often say that we are better together, but what if we are also stronger together. Jesus tells us that united we stand, but divided we fall. Maybe that is why our enemy looks to divide the church.. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that community is the answer to defeat.
We all face moments of despair and depression in our lives. Some people live their whole lives in despair without any hope. However the Gospel is good news and the Bible is a book about hope. We need a community to remind each other of the hope that God has given to us. In this message Pastor Erik teaches that community is the answer to despair.
God does not want us to walk or work alone. When everyone helps out the work is accomplished easier. When we do things on our own, the weight is too heavy for us to carry. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that community is the answer to burnout.
Loneliness is one of the most common ailments of the modern age, so why is it not being talked about? Loneliness can be an all-consuming feeling and can put us in a survival mode where we’re just trying to make it through the day. But what if there was a way to avoid the loneliness trap. Some things are just better together. Items like peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese go hand and hand together. However, the Christian faith and independence are incompatible with one another.. As people we value our independence. We like financial freedom and the freedom to make our own choicers. We will all leave an inheritance of some sort when we are gone. Some of us will leave behind physical wealth, while others will leave behind spiritual values. The world tells us to focus on what we can leave to our loved ones, while God seems to be more concerned about what we leave in our loved ones. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that you can not pass down what you do not own!
We all have stories we like to tell, but how many of us have stories we would like to hide? Some of us may even want to edit details out of our stories to make them appear better than they are. Each of our stories are made up of individual decisions. In fact, you could say that the choices we make today will determine the story we tell tomorrow. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that you are one decision away from changing your entire story.
Stories have an array of narratives, each woven by different authors. The author is responsible for creating the details of each tale. But what transpires when two different stories intersect and find themselves at odds with one another? How do you decide which story is actually true? In this message Pastor Chris teaches that we need to know the whole story in order to have a full story!
The best part of any story is the plot twist that happens in the middle. But when it is our story and we are, we often want to alleviate the tension that forms in between the chapters by knowing how the story is going to end. Jesus gives us plenty of examples of healing, feeding, caring for, and loving those we don’t even know, but if we are honest, how well are we loving even those we do know? In this message Pastor Chris teaches that love is not something we just say, but something that we do!
When we think of salvation, we often think of the free gift that God gave us. But is love really free? In his message pastor Erik teaches that salvation may be free to us, but it was a hight cost to someone.
In a world of loneliness and isolation we need community more than ever, but how do you get someone to try something that they have never tried. When we invite people to church for the first time they might be apprehensive to come. It is interesting that Jesus never invited people to the temple, instead he invited them to follow him. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that if we can’t bring them to church, we bring the church to them.
We often hear the words “I fell in love” like it is something that we fall in and out of and have no control over. We often mistake love as a feeling, but in reality, it's an unwavering commitment and an intentional act. The good news is that we have more control over our love life than we give credit to. God commands us to love our neighbors, but this can be a challenge when we find ourselves living in communities of complete strangers. In a recent study that was taken only 26 percent of people admitted to having some type of relationship with their neighbors. Someone once asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was. His answer was “to love God and love your neighbor.” Loving God was easy. Loving your neighbor? Not so much. Jesus knew that. Following God isn’t always easy and leading others to follow him can be even tougher. Jesus says that the world will recognize that we are Christians by how we love others. But how do I love those who are difficult to love? How do I show love to those who I personally don’t like? God is not calling us to do certain tasks, but to love certain people. In order to draw others to God, we are being called to be a reflection of God. How can we overcome the fears of leaving our comfort zone and taking the first step toward achieving our dreams and goals? You will never know how far you can go until you leave the safety of the boat to walk on water. Taking the first step is always the hardest, but it is the only way to experience everything God has for you. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that if you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat.
Would you ever go on a trip without factoring what the trip is going to cost? Although we may spend more or less than we budgeted, we would do our best to estimate the amount our trip would cost us before we go. Jesus tells us to estimate the cost before making the decision to follow him. In this message Pastor Erik teaches that following Jesus comes at a cost, but the reward is priceless.
The call to follow Jesus is a deeply personal decision and it involves sacrificing one's desires and goals for a higher purpose. At the end of the day we are left asking the question, is it really worth it? In this message Pastor Chris will teach that Salvation is free and does not cost you anything, but following Jesus will eventually cost you something!
Have you ever felt judged or had a bad encounter with other Christians? Many times people who have a horrible experience with a church form an opinion about God. They often feel condemned, but does God really feel that way about them? In this message Pastor Chris teaches that being a sinner is not a disqualification, but a prerequisite.
Have you ever chosen to ignore someone when they called you? When we don’t want to speak with someone we normally send them to voicemail. We easily ignore telemarketers and phone numbers we don’t recognize. The numbers of those whom we are closest with and have a relationship with are saved under contacts and favorites. When they call we instantly answer. There is a response when they call, but how many of us respond when Jesus calls? In this message Pastor Chris teaches that many will be called, but few will answer.
Have you ever gotten lost? Some of us like to find our own way where others of us may ask for directions. This may work when there are multiple ways in order to get to a destination, but what happens if there is only one? In this message Pastor Erik teaches that there is only one way to God, but thankfully He gave us a GPS!
No one likes to go through challenges and adversity, but can they be an actual blessing for us? Maybe God is not doing something to us in the hardships, but something for us!. We often think that when trials arise God must be punishing us, but could He actually be helping us and teaching us in the process? In this message Pastor Chris will teach that in order to truly grow and multiply, you must first be willing to be pruned.
As Christians we often wonder why we go through difficult situations. We quote verses like if God is for us, who can be against us. But what do we say when things really just don’t go our way? You have probably heard the phrase “over my dead body” used by your parents more than once. This is normally used in a negative connotation, but what does it mean when it is used as a sign of protection. Fear and darkness often go together. It is difficult to have one without the other. What is interesting is that God did not create darkness, what he created was light. In fact, darkness is the lack of light. God does not want us to live in the darkness just like he does not want us to be afraid. Have you ever been hungry, but have not been able to decide what you would like to eat? We have food available, but choose not to consume it because it is not packaged the way which is marketed to our desires. Unfortunately many people miss out on the joys of a relationship with God because Jesus is not packaged in a way that looks appetizing to us. Who was Jesus Christ? Some people say he was a good teacher, others would say he was a great moral example, but what does Jesus say about himself? It is impossible for Jesus to make the statements and claims about himself and be a good, moral person unless He was truly God. Each year we set new goals only to find ourselves ending the year exactly the way in which we started. That is because we get what we repeat. Habits are not formed by our dreams, desires or goals, but by our systems. In this message Pastor Chris teaches that we do not rise to the level of our goals, but we fall to the level of our systems.
Have you ever attempted to break a bad habit, If you have, then you know how difficult they are to stop. Why does it seem to be easier to start something new rather than to remove the old? In this message Pastor Chris will teach that in order to get a new product, we must change the old patterns.
Change isn’t easy, but it isn’t impossible, either. Your future self is a result of the decisions you make each and every day. Starting a few small Habits can change how you see yourself today and transform you into the person you want to be tomorrow. A habit is a repeated action or behavior. Maybe the reason we never see change in our daily lives is because we know how to start good habits, but don’t have the perseverance to finish them. In this message Pastor Chris will teach that successful people do consistently what others do occasionally.
We often create and fail at our New Year's resolutions because we start the year by focusing on our goals instead of working on our habits. Unfortunately our goals are not what changes us, our habits do. And our habits are not as easy to change as we may believe because they are tied directly into our identity. Home is a place where we invest our time and finances in order to make our family comfortable. We spend countless resources on our homes because we own them. However, it would be pointless to invest dollars into an apartment or a place which we knew was only temporary. A wise steward would save their money in order to buy a permanent home instead of spending it on a temporary location.. As Christians we are left with a promise from Jesus! This promise of eternal life in a new kingdom without pain and suffering inspires in times of turmoil. Does God love me? Is God angry with me? These are questions we often ask ourselves when our circumstances are not always matching our desires. When we pray for one thing, but we are receiving another. In these situations it is easy to begin to doubt God, but that is when we have to remember God's covenant that He creates with us. Grace does not depend on what we have done for God, but rather what God has done for us. Nowhere did Jesus more clearly illustrate the concept of grace than in the story of the adulterous woman.
