A roots album from Baroque soprano Suzie LeBlanc. Acadians are French-speaking Canadians from the Maritime provinces, with a culture quite different than Quebecers and other French-Canadians. Longfellow wrote a famous poem about the deportation of the Acadians from the Maritimes to Louisiana during one of the many 18th-century wars between the British and French. 'Cajun' comes from the Louisiana pronunciation 'Acajun' .
The Acadians who remained in Acadian after the deportations - or returned — have lived next door to Scots and Irish Maritimers (some of whom still speak Gaelic), so there is a strong Celtic flavour to go with the 17th-century French dialect.
Among the musicians in the period instrument band are Chris Norman — one of the stars of the original Dorian Recordings - and baroque violinist/Celtic fiddler David Greenberg, a former Tafelmusik soloist who originated Marquis Records' hit 'Bach meets Cape Breton' about 10 years ago.
