- In 2 Samuel 21 we have gospel testimony preached through famine.--2. A famine that came because Saul, his bloodthirsty house, had killed the Gibeonites -Hivites-a remnant of the Amorites who lived among Israel-.--3. Joshua had made a covenant of peace with them in Joshua that they should not die, and even though it happened through misrepresentations by the Gibeonites, the covenant could not be annulled.--4. But sometime Saul had committed a genocide of them in violation of that Covenant and God had brought a famine to Israel because of them during the reign of David.--5. So, an atonement was devised by which the Gibeonites demanded the death by hanging of Saul's 7 sons -2 sons and 5 grandsons-.--6. After the hanging of these 7, the wrath of God was removed and so was the famine. But it was more than about famine. It was the testimony of Christ, through Joshua and David and the crucifixion.--7. The death of the 7 sons brought about the end of God's wrath as the death of Christ brought justification to God's people.--8. There is a lot of the testimony of the Law that is carried in this gospel message. And it is a wonderful gospel testimony. And it is free.
