How is your focus on your family going? Do you feel busied and hurried? Is your schedule too full? Is it even possible to slow a family down in Orange County! We believe the answer is “YES” but we will need to learn to say ‘no’ to some things if we will ever get there, and that can be very hard. With your vision statement in process, bring your heart on Sunday and we will work on this family thing together, and see if we can get some clearer focus for each of our families. You will be encouraged by His grace!
Sometimes in our highly individualistic society we forget just how important it is that God has placed all of us into a family. We are so pleased to kick into a brand new series and look forward to sharing it with you this Sunday. It is called Family Anthem. In this opening week, we will share why a family is so very important to every one of us, and how we can make our family one of our highest priorities in life.
This Sunday we will take a good look at the Good News! Do you find yourself overwhelmed and enamored by the joy the birth of Jesus? Christmas is the celebration of the greatest turning point in the story of God’s love for the world. Jesus is born, and that changes everything for us. This is such good news for us all, and such good news to share with others.
Are you noticing people more? Are you listening for the voice of our Savior for ways to show compassion and kindness rather than trying so hard for only rightness? I wonder how our report card from the world would change if we learned to notice, listen and care for people more. Would they begin to care more about knowing our God if we began to care more for them? This Christmas we are seeking to grow in our spiritual conversations. We are asking the Lord for the power to see others as He sees them and to reach out in love towards them. As we seek to establish a better conversation with others let us all remember the importance of how to increase the quality and quantity of these interactions by: noticing, listening, serving and wondering with them. This Sunday we will learn how powerful it can be to wonder with another.
The Christmas season has arrived! It is time to celebrate the birth of our King Jesus. In fact 91% of Americans will celebrate Christmas this year but sadly many of them will be disconnected from its reality- the person and work of Jesus Christ on their behalf! What difference can we make in that disconnection? We can make a huge difference if we are willing to step into that gap, and this week we will show you how!
Where do we find our daily strength to live out this supernatural spiritual life of following Jesus together? We find our strength in His mighty power-- we are dependent creatures for the power we need. And what is that power? The Holy Spirit empowers us to be Christ’s witnesses! So, be filled with the Holy Spirit! That is the key to living this life of following Jesus together. That is the battle and that is the call. In this sermon, we will see all of the armor given to us by God for all that we need to live victoriously.
This week will bring us to the pinnacle of our series in Ephesians, ‘Stand Strong.’ For the next 3 weeks we will learn the lessons of Ephesians 6:10-20 and what it means to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. We'll also learn what it means to put on the full armor of God in order to stand against the enemy and walk in the victory of Jesus Christ that is already ours. This is the time to fight for your participation in worship with us and your adherence to your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The time is now to learn to fight well in the heavenly realms.
What a great week this will be to talk together about the household that is built on the bedrock of God’s Word! As we are in a series that is all about how to stand strong, there is a clear call to know where we stand on the issues of family, marriage, parenting and running a house. Ephesians 5:22-6:9 is the definitive passage for taking a look at the household following Jesus, and we will have a great time this Sunday doing just that!
Ephesians has been teaching us to Stand Strong in our faith and fight well in the battle! Last week we committed ourselves to using our words not to injure or offend but rather to build up and give grace to others. This week we will learn to live in the new light of our lives- the light of Christ. Ephesians 5:1-20 will call us to make the most of our opportunities as we live as 'Light in the Lord!'
This week we continue Part 2 of Standing Strong in Prayer!
Paul’s section of prayers within Ephesians (3:14-21) pulls us into the magnitude and gravity of the Father’s, love for us. When considering it all, it literally causes Paul to fall to his knees. If we want to live the life we were created for, we must grab ahold of God’s great love for us, each and every day. Paul prays that we understand, “how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is." It changes everything!
To be prayer-less is to be power-less.
This Sunday we will study an incredible prayer recorded by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 1:15-23. While praying for "surface level outcomes" is not discouraged, Paul’s prayer leads us to consider how deep, root-level prayer, carries a dynamic power and weight. As you read the passage ask yourself,
“How would my prayer life change if I focused on the things Paul focuses on in these verses?”
May we be those who stand strong in prayer, not simply asking God for outcomes, but praying specifically and strategically into the root issues of our hearts and lives.
It can be shocking to us when we see how completely God has loaded us up on everything we need to feel secure and empowered for this Christian life. This week will be more of the same as we look at our position in Christ. We will shift our focus to see how we've gone from being dead in our sins to being made alive in Christ. Further, that has seated us in some pretty lofty places— raised with Him and enthroned with Him! Certainly our standing in Christ will help us to stand strong for Christ and to shine His light for our culture. I hope you will join us for an encouraging message regarding our position in Christ.
I am so excited to start this new series with you called Ephesians: Stand Strong! Ephesians was the first ever Bible letter we studied when we began The Shoreline Church. It is one of my favorite letters in all of the Bible and I know you're going to love it too. This week we will see from chapter 1 how blessed we are with every spiritual blessing and how strong that helps us stand in our faith. -George

Why Romans? Why Now? Romans will remind us of our theological foundation re: the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we enter a defining season as a church, Romans will reignite us to, not only know, but also share this good news of grace with our generation. How will we handle it? We will divide the book of Romans into 2 sections- chapters 1-11 and chapters 12-16. We will take the first section from now through June. We will take a summer break from Romans for July and August. We will pick it back up in the fall for September through November. We will have Christmas and celebrate what the Lord has done in 2014 in us through Romans. How should we prepare for it and what are looking for God to do through it? We should first read it this week. In order to get its flow and emphasis it is best to read it like a letter- in large chunks. Here is our suggestion: Read chapters 1-5 in one sitting, chapters 6-11 in another, and then chapters 12-16. As you read underline all of the occurrences, and note the usages of the words ‘grace’ and ‘mercy’. Keep asking yourself as you read how this information helps you to receive grace and mercy, and how it helps you to live and give grace and mercy to others. We will focus on these two big ideas: receiving grace and living grace-filled lives. Also if you are pretty familiar with Romans, change your Bible version as you read it, so that it comes across fresh.
