I’ve decided that sustainable time management is my new goal rather than focusing on productivity.

In this episode, we’re exploring what that means to have a system of sustainable time (and life!) management.

Listen in to hear:

  • Why sustainability matters more than productivity
  • 3 ways we can start creating a more sustainable system for time management
  • The most important thing to include in your time management strategy, no matter what season of life you are in

This episode is the last in our series on time management! I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have.

I don’t have any current plans for more episodes in the near future, but make sure you are signed up to get emails from me HERE so we can keep the conversation going about time management (after I have a baby)!

I'd love to hear any thoughts or insights you had while listening to the episode. Say hello via DM on Instagram @kristinbrown.

This episode is for anyone who feels trapped by a life of perpetual busy-ness and craves a simpler, calmer experience of their life.

A common theme I see among the overstretched business owners I've worked with over the years is their tendency to take on way more work than they actually have capacity for. They feel like they're never doing enough, yet they're busy all the time.

They say yes to every job, client, and opportunity and don't stop to make sure all that work actually fits within the limited hours in a day or week.

This leads to a life imbalance and a lack of personal wellness that gets worse the longer it goes on.

But this doesn't just happen to business owners – we ALL can fall into the trap of taking on more than we have capacity for.

In this episode you'll learn why we do this, how we can use constraints to maintain balance, and practical examples of what it can look like to introduce the concept of "enough" to different areas of your life.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or insights you had while listening to the episode. Say hello via DM on Instagram @kristinbrown.

How often do you mentally jump ahead to a future time when things are sure to be better than they are today?

I am so guilty of this and it's something I'm working through right now as I impatiently wait for the end of this pregnancy.

I'm re-learning (this is definitely not my first time struggling with trying to escape the present moment!) what I can do to stop fretting that the future isn't coming quickly enough and find joy and beauty in this current day/week/month/season.

Listen in to learn my simple (but not necessarily easy) trick for instantly focusing back in on the present moment instead of resisting or avoiding it.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or insights you had while listening to the episode. Say hello via DM on Instagram @kristinbrown.

I've been noticing lately that there are two activities that pay major dividends in every aspect of my life. Two activities that, when I take time for them, create MORE time and energy.

Yet they are also the very first things that I drop when things get hectic or stressful (which happens to be right when I need them the most).

Listen in to hear what the two activities are and why they're so useful. You'll also hear why I think doing BOTH activities is 10x as powerful as just doing one or the other.

I would love to hear your response to the episode! Say hello via DM on Instagram @kristinbrown.

We used to think that lasting happiness was always just around the corner. If we could just figure out this problem or get this thing we wanted, then it would be smooth sailing and we’d finally be living the fulfilled life.

Just like we have, you’ve probably found that you never actually “make it” in life, right?

This idea can be discouraging but we’ve found that it’s actually liberating. If circumstances won’t ever make us happy, we must be able to be happy in spite of circumstances. And that’s what we’re discussing in this episode.

We talked about:

  • 3 steps to living a more fulfilled life
  • How to stop living just for the future
  • How each of us finds satisfaction and joy despite circumstances
  • Thinking of fulfillment as a state of being (not just thoughts you think)
  • Balancing wanting more and having enough

Something that keeps coming up for us recently is the power we each have to determine the answers we need for ourselves.

  • Finding freedom from seeking opinions from others before making decisions

  • Taking ownership of your solutions and ideas -- and why that’s so powerful
  • And don’t miss the 9 powerful journaling prompt ideas in our show notes to get you started in your own process of self-inquiry!

In this episode, we’re talking about the peaks and troughs we all face in every area of life.

C.S. Lewis called it the law of undulation and said that the closest we can get to constancy is this idea of undulation: “a repeated return to a level from which we repeatedly fall back, a series of troughs and peaks.”

We often think our personal growth should be on a straight upward trajectory, always ascending and improving, but in reality, things are continually in flux despite our best efforts.

Kristin shares her current experience being in a spiritual trough and the learning that is taking place because of it. And we share our ideas about how to accept these phases of life without so much resistance in hopes to strengthen our spirituality.

We’re finally talking about MONEY!

Money is one of those practical conversation topics that is so hard to talk about since we all think and feel so differently (and so emotionally!) about it.

In the first of two episodes about money, we’re talking about why a healthy mindset about money is just as important, if not more, than the practical stuff.

We chat about:

  2. The ways money reflects our state of emotional health
  3. How we can decide that what we have right now is actually enough
  4. Making room for differing perspectives on money with an open mind and no judgment

Have you been feeling like the noise of the world is just so loud that it’s hard to hear yourself think? We’ve been feeling like that too. So we took a break from social media and other distractions we each struggle with and this episode is the result -- what we learned and what we’re doing moving forward to find clarity and quiet in a noisy world.

We talked about:

  1. How to know if a particular distraction (like Instagram, podcasts, email, or the news) is actually a problem for you
  2. Why we are pulled to these things so easily
  3. How to overcome those urges and get them in better balance

“Remember what it is that truly gives us the balance we’re looking for. Responding to those urges for distraction doesn’t give us what we need in that moment. What we really need is quiet, peace, understanding, and clarity.”

Emily & Erik love the concept of Essentialism from the book by Greg McKeown -- learning to get the right things done and eliminating what isn't essential in our lives. They share how they applied the concepts when they were busy and overwhelmed after returning home from their year living on a sailboat.

If you ever find yourself feeling busy but not making progress on the things that truly matter to you, you'll love this concept.

You can learn more about Emily & Erik on their website at www.sevenatsea.com. And if you want more bonus content like this, be sure to support us on Patreon!

You do not want to miss today’s episode! We’re talking to Emily & Erik Orton, an unconventional couple who left their home in New York City to live on a sailboat for a year with their five kids.

We talk about their life philosophy and how they have intentionally chosen to live a better story. They share how to find adventure in your own life without comparing it to others, how to get past fear and turn your excuses into reasons, and how we can put our lives on autopilot and do small things regularly that will get us to the destinations we dream of.

We loved our conversation with the Ortons and can’t wait for you to get to know them too! Pre-order their upcoming book at www.sevenatsea.com.

In this episode, we’re chatting about how to get out of a slump. We all go through ups and downs and sometimes need a little help getting through the down times.

Laura describes it as a fog that blocks us from the light and prevents us from seeing things as they really are and feeling our best. She shares her experience with this and a few things she does to take care of herself in those times. We talk about not identifying with the feelings and remembering it’s just what you feel, not who you are. Laura shares how she finds patterns in what triggers these down times, plus a list of a few things that can help us get closer to the light that slowly clears the fog instead of inviting the fog to stay for a long time.

In this episode, we’re talking about being BUSY.

So many of us seem to be living in constant busy-mode with all the things on our schedules and more we want to fit into each day. We think about, stress about, and talk to each other about just how busy we are. But we wondered if it really needs to be this way. Is there a way we can simplify our schedules? Or even leave our schedules the way they are but change how we think and talk about them? What if 24 hours was really all the time we needed in a single day?

Today’s episode is all about confidence!

Both of us have experienced a dramatic increase in self-confidence throughout our adult years and we each share what has helped us with that. Of course there are always surface-level changes we can make like dressing better or learning to be a better conversationalist that help us feel better in certain situations, but we really wanted to talk about the deeper heart-changes that truly can help us be confident, no matter what situation we find ourselves in.

We share three fundamental shifts for true confidence and how changing the way we think can make all the difference in how confident we feel.
