Modulations welcomes Phil Warner for this latest installment. Enjoy this lush, cerebral mix of chilled out Electro beats.Info:www.plantanddeck.co.ukhttps://www.instagram.com/_plant_and_deck_https://www.facebook.com/plantanddeckleedshttps://soundcloud.com/phil-warnerPhil got his first pair of turntables in 2001 and has been passionately collecting records and DJing ever since. His first residency came at the age of 17 for deep house night ‘No Shanti’ in York followed by a residency at ‘Howdoyoudo?’ along with many guest slots around the city. During his time in Nottingham he started his own event ‘Sherbert’ at the infamous ‘Moog’ pub before founding ‘Subterranea' in 2013 - ten years later Phil remains resident DJ and co-promoter. In 2022 Phil joined the team at The Imaginarium and opened Plant & Deck, Leeds’ only house plant and record shop. The shop specialises in house plants of all varieties and left-field leaning electronic music from ambient and electronica through house, techno, electro and breaks. Green fingers aside this allows him the opportunity to tip the city’s vinyl diggers by drawing upon his extensive knowledge of, and passion for, electronic music. In over 20 years of DJing at, and throwing, parties he has warmed up and closed for countless DJs including Radioactive Man, Conforce & Versalife, Surgeon, Jamie Anderson, Trevino, Neville Watson and Alex Smoke to name just a few. Playing exclusively on vinyl, Phil is an accomplished DJ in his own right with shelves and shelves of records fit for any dancefloor. For the modulations mix series he has dug out an hour of spaced out electro wobblers, the majority of which are available at Plant & Deck.Tracklist:Ali Renault - Gypsy Ritual - Nocta NumericaSquarepusher - Detroit People Mover - Warp RecordsLowfish - Thaw - Analogical Force Plant43 - Arc Furnace - Plant43 RecordingsMother of Pearls - Hall Of Mirrors - Gun Finger FoodVersalife - Altered Perception - 20/20 VisionNo Moon - Breakpoints - Craigie KnowesAli Renault - Her Kind - Nocta NumericaVersalife - Unsolved Mysteries - Clone West Coast SeriesDerek Carr - Nite Drive (part 3) - Trident RecordingsMatti Turunen - Memnonia - Cultivated Electronics James Shinra - Ekko - Analogical Force Mariel Ito - Creature - R&S RecordsLee - Wild Child - Artificial Intelligence Vector Lovers - Melodies and Memory - Soma

Info: Many electronic producers make music that sounds like the future. Alavux is making the future and has carved himself a millennium head start. Whilst many of his peers maintain a course along the Kraftwerk or Drexciyan trajectory Alavux is committed to creating his own path; still drawing on the inspiration these great pioneers gave to so many. but choosing to adopt their pioneering spirit and innovation rather than their sound and track structures. Many a conversation has taken place about whether Alavux is a maker of techno or electro. His discography tells you that he can pull off both very well and he shows you that both can be combined with explosive results. The sheer power and intensity of his grooves make each track a force to be reckoned with. Supported by Dave Clarke. Billy Nasty. Igloo Magazine. Thomas H Green (The Arts Desk). DJ Stingray UMWELT and more."

Info: Urban Exploration are a loose collective of techno producers and DJs, noise makers and visual artists, who have been working together in the studio since 2011.

Episode 31 brings you this quality vinyl DJ set from York's own https://soundcloud.com/perseus-traxx. Recorded at the Boxjam festival in Leeds, 12.10.19.
www.boxjam.org.uk www.boxjam.org.uk/profile/perseus-traxx
Info: Perseus Traxx is one of a number of different projects and aliases born from differing themes and ideas, be they mythological, fantastical, conspiratorial or otherwise. Others include, but are not limited to: Northern Powerhouse, Nite Vision, Orpheus, Sir Leon Greg, Operator Tracey, Scandalous Arthur, Orpheus, Ellis de Havilland and Vulcano.
I self release music and communicate with people and since doing that a range of quality labels has had faith in what I do, enough to make the gamble of releasing my music in a physical format. Such labels include Den Hague’s legendary Bunker, as well as M>O>S and BOE Recordings. Have a look on Discogs if you’re interested in reading a list of what I’ve done, the cross referencing and digging potential of the site, to allow discovery of artists, labels and releases, is something I actively encourage. Curiosity often pays off and an active approach is far superior to waiting around to be fed information.
There’s no point saying what is coming up release-wise as that acts as more of a jinx for getting things released, especially when people sit on music and do nothing. This is why I do things at a quick pace with Alex Handley and our Northern Powerhouse project. A record CAN still be turned around in a few weeks, and I heartily recommend communication and a D.I.Y attitude.

Horror Brawl - Modulations Mix
Bio / Info: Picture a Sunday morning after a night out, the pair formerly known as ded|badger are in need of a new name to fit their newfound love of Techno, sitting in the park soaking up the sun and some mind-bending chemicals... Refreshments are needed, a decision is made: a trip to the shop is required.
The News of the World newspaper proudly displays it's latest headline: KOP STARS IN HORROR BRAWL
"That's it!" they exclaim "Horror Brawl, that's our new name!"
Caught up in the excitement of, in their own words, a "militant" new name, and eager to get back in the studio to rock out a new mix that will start the next phase in their musical journey they barrel up the counter, arms full of fizzy drinks and sugary treats only to discover neither of them has brought money with them. The shop keeper is very understanding, eager to get rid of these two exuberant chaps who are stomping around his shop shouting "militant" he agrees to keep their treats to the side while the boys return home to grab the much-needed cash.
That little tale occurred after about 4 or 5 years, now 18 years on and somehow, during all the chaos, they have managed to hold various residencies in their home town of Leeds including the legendary techno night Detached, started two respected labels: Digital Distortions and it's now-defunct offshoot: Limetree Projects and 2 podcasts: BRAWLcast , for the darker electronic genres and Kitchen Spasm for more house based flavours where they produce mixes under the name MxK.
Future projects include Mallory's Death Bunker label - first release coming soon, and more gigs, mixes and musical mayhem.

Errorbeauty - Mix for Modulations
Bulgarian born, London-Berlin based Errorbeauty has been meticulously piecing together her impressive catalog of releases since beginning Djing back in 2003. A professional flute musician by way of background, she gradually became drawn to electronic music’s intricately textured soundscapes - more specifically the broken, aggressive shades of Detroit Electro. In 2012 she moved to London where she started her musical journey as a producer, meeting many artists whose music she's been collecting for ages, and rapidly appeared on the scene playing alongside Plaid, Mr Switch (4 times DMC World champion), Andrea Parker, ADJ, Bitstream, Flint Kids to name a few. Errorbeauty’s work continues to evolve and offers listeners a distinct reflection of Motor City’s relationship with the genre whilst demonstrating her own unique perspective of Electro, which brought her twice to the legendary Tresor Club for Berlin Atonal. Earlier this year she has performed at Berlin's underground well-respected event series Skizze in OHM as well as Bold, Exquisite Berlin and Disobedient Circumstance at Suicide Circus Berlin where she proudly became one of the residents in the club this year. Together with XOR12, she recently launched the new electro/techno record label Arkada Records. The first EP featuring T15DM and Errobeauty herself was released on July 15th this year. Coming next is the second EP on her label Arkada Records which has plans to be released on 15th of April.

Myoptik - Ping Discs Showcase for Modulations
Myoptik’s podcast is a mix that he has made entirely using tracks from his Ping-discs label, so ALL of the tracks are available on albums at the myoptik bandcamp site, https://myoptik.bandcamp.com
Lots of the tracks are taken from the eclectic compilations Musical Mastication Volumes 1-4 and Leap Year Jamboree, but there’s also other Ping-discs tracks in there too.
Over the course of one and three-quarter hours he has managed to squeeze in great tunes by the likes of Roy Of The Ravers, Cursor Miner, The Horn, Misterben, Myoptik, Bedouin Ascent, Nanobot, Southfacing, Peata Out and many many others, including plenty of surreal splatterings from Shrimpsalad.
It’s a real journey, but hopefully a fun one for anyone who takes the ride. It’s certainly not your average mix…!!

Notes “So straight it’s freaky. Or so freaky that it’s straight. And when was the last time you had a talk with The Man Upstairs?” (Billboard Magazine review of Caldera : A Moog Mass, November 14, 1970).
I’ve been thinking about this mix for some time. I’m not sure when it came together in my mind, but over the past couple of years I’ve been actively collecting pieces that fit into the theme of religious or occult inspired music created with electronics. Depending on where you view it from, that people would use synthesizers to produce music which is inspired by the supernatural either makes no sense at all or seems inevitable. No sense, because the electronic music has always been associated with the future, technology and science. But, inevitable because whether treated ironically, in all seriousness or done just for the hell of it, the supernatural is unreal and electronic music is, or at least was in the early years, equally uncanny.
Gershon Kingsley, Eric Siday, Mort Garson and the chaps behind TONTO were all early adopters of the Moog. They all took different roads, but all went through their own rites for one reason or another. The cult of Delia Derbyshire throws up black magic and old folks backed by the sound of a gothic alter piece. I love all this. It’s just so weird and wonderful and unexpected that I had to put it all together. I pulled in some newer gear by The Eccentronic Research Council and Boards of Canada who seem to be onto all of this. There’s also some serious Satanism from ‘Frisco, original musique concrete from France and in turns sublime and paganistic TV soundtrack work from Leeds and, err, Leeds! Finally things get a bit cult-like and sin-full. Read the comments for more details!
