Fear can be a surprisingly powerful motivator. Though I understand God is not wanting us to live lives marked by abject fear, there is great spiritual danger when we experience no fear at all. A lack of it can cause us to take things like security and assurance to an unbiblical extreme. If it is possible for a Christian to fall from grace and lose their salvation (and the Bible says it is), then a healthy fear of God can be a good thing, motivating us to continued faithfulness and growth.
