In the words of Bob Slydell from Office Space, “What would you say you do here?” How often have you been asked what you do as a coach? It’s a question I aim to answer with the coaches I work with. In doing so, we can identify the kind of coach they want to be and the type of practice they want to build. It can take time to find the answer, but it’s worth it when we do. Let’s talk about coaching and why it matters that we know what we do and how we do it.

Today, I explore what it means to be a coach and identify what they do. I share the differences among trainers, consultants, coaches, and advisors and compare the differing schools of thought on how coaching should work. I also explain how to identify how you want to build your coaching practice and why being clear about your message is essential in creating a successful coaching business.
