Unemployment in South Africa, one of the biggest economies on the continent, has hit record levels, with young people and black women the hardest hit - at 35.3% generally, 41% amongst black women and 74% amongst the youth. Amongst the cause of this crisis is weak economic growth and the current pandemic. However, at the same time and at the centre, is our education system. The sector is simply not producing an adequately skilled population and produces a skills output that is not aligned with what is needed to grow this economy.
