Have you ever considered Joy to be a layer of protection against the pressures of life? Okay, probably not a definition of Joy you probably would latch onto?! However, in the Bible, there is a letter written to a Church of Cultural Rebels with encouragement to look to someone, beyond themselves for their source of Joy. The book of Philippians teaches that joy isn’t dependent on circumstances; it’s dependent on who or what we ground our identity in.

In today’s lesson, Aaron Brockett, lead minister, with Trader’s Point Christian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, relates how the pressures of life can lead to temptations to do our own thing, to get our own way, to make it all about ourselves and how these false defenses can kill the joy that can be our true defense.
