This is episode 275, and it marks the end of an era for Sincerely, Future You.

After 274 episodes spanning five years through births, launches, travel, and countless life transformations, this conversation feels complete. I've explored every question that burned in my mind when I started, experimented with concepts that have literally changed bank accounts, and watched women take maternity leaves, leave full-time jobs, and release thoughts that were giving them ulcers—all because of ideas we've shared in this space.

So, this episode is a love letter to my past self. It’s an affirmation of all that she knew but didn’t know why she knew. I hope this episode helps you see yourself more clearly, and don’t worry, this won’t be the last time you hear from me. I’ve got a fun, new conversation brewing, and it’s hitting the airwaves in August.

Have you ever achieved a big goal only to feel... empty? Maybe you hit that revenue target, scaled your business, or finally mastered your schedule. But something still feels missing.

In this episode, I dive into a deceptively simple yet transformative question that successful business owners need to answer: "What is your time for?"

This week, I share my personal, extensive list of what time means to me - from making things more fun and having deep conversations to receiving uncomfortable amounts of money and being present for my children's development. This isn't about slowing down; it's about being intentional with the only time we have on earth.

The emotional highs and lows of entrepreneurship can feel like whiplash, pulling us between euphoric wins and crushing setbacks. As business owners, we often look to past results to validate our progress and worth, creating an unhealthy cycle of emotional dependence on outcomes.

Leading indicators predict future success while lagging indicators measure past performance. Understanding the difference between these metrics - and where to focus our attention - can transform how we show up in our businesses. When we celebrate the actions and mindset that create results, rather than just the results themselves, we build sustainable confidence that withstands market fluctuations.

Join me this week as I break down why over-focusing on lagging indicators puts us on an emotional rollercoaster, reinforces logical (rather than revolutionary) growth strategies, and creates limiting narratives about what's possible.

A popular saying in the business world is, "If you're not growing, you're dying." Are you a saver or a spender? One of the biggest breakthroughs in my financial mindset was realizing that you don’t have to choose between one or the other. You can be BOTH! In fact, you can be a master at more than just spending and saving. You can be a spender, saver, earner, investor, haver, and giver of money. You just need a tool that helps you SEE your money and REWARDS your brain for doing all 6.

When my ex-husband and I separated - we decided together that we better both get our money straight. And so we downloaded You Need a Budget or “YNAB”. What started out as a personal budgeting journey quickly turned into an addiction. Here’s how it can benefit you.

I love working with my clients on mastery. It’s a word we use a lot. More of a self-concept really. We are meticulous with our calendars and our budgets. And we honor our word. We create plans, and then we execute on them. But there is complimentary work that we do as well to be great CEOs. We fall in love with our "humanness." Our dramatic brains. Our emotions. Our imperfections. Our messy action. Our trials and errors. Our primitive tendencies - to worry, doubt, second-guess, and indulge in confusion. We make room for us to rest. To receive. To lean on others. To slow. To change our minds. To heal.

This episode is about how to make sure your plan is airtight. About how to make sure you’re treating your business like a business. How to stamp it with the metaphorical seal of Board Room Certified.

Your current business might have lots of clients, but they all have to speak with you in some way in order to be served. OR your current business might have only ever had a handful of customers or NO customers, and you’re planning to grow to serve 50. Whichever it is, most of you listening are not YET presenting your Q1 plan to a board room. Or are a publicly traded company reporting to your investors?

But let’s chat with Future You (even if you don’t ever desire to take your company public) let’s imagine you there.

There is a mental shift that happens. A straightening of the spine. A series of checks and balances should go into your plan.

We CANNOT have people pleasers. And if you’re a woman who identifies as a people pleaser, this goes out to you.

I’m joined again with Ashley Hoff, a dear friend of mine and Happster. Ashley talks about people pleasing and how she navigated a happy helper mindset to please Hollywood and honor the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas. For those of you who are tuning into Ashley for the first time, she is the Executive Producer of “11 Minutes”, a 4 part documentary series about the Las Vegas shooting.

In part 1, Ashley describes the day of the shooting and how good things can come from negative emotions.

Great things can come from negative emotions. Ashley Hoff did exactly this as the Executive Producer of “11 Minutes”, a 4 part documentary series on the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is a different episode than normal, but it’s an important one that Happsters need to hear. Ashley is not only a dear friend of mine, but a Happster. In this episode, Ashley describes the day of the shooting, the good that came from this horrific event, and advice for people who are struggling from trauma. I think you might be confused.

You know that when you start a business, you’re not supposed to be “good at the business part”… right?

You’re just supposed to be an amazing florist
Or artist
Or photographer
Or have a killer product

Be the best YOU in your industry.

But the way to make lots of money and still have a life you have time for?

That part is just math.

There is a process:
To scheduling.
To budgeting.
To goal setting.
To delegating.
To hiring + firing.
To selling.

And just like anything else, you need to invest time & money into learning those processes.

There is one thing that will keep you from that success though…

Your mind drama.

I teach women business owners how to sift out the facts of their business from their drama.

So you can stop trying to people please your way to success.

So you can start saying no to clients that aren’t a good fit.

And set policies that create your dream life and business…

So you can look at your numbers monthly and not make them mean anything about your self-worth

You don’t just need “more clients”
Or “more money”
Or “more time”

You need to decide what you’re creating THIS month and reverse engineer it.

And then rinse and repeat.

It’s not that hard.

Next week I’m enrolling 15 women into a 6 month container where you will go from…

“really good at what you do” to Masterful CEO

So you can get back to being the person that STARTED the business
(A really great coach who loves quirky wallpaper, perhaps 🤔)

instead of hustling around feeling bad about not being a born Business savant.

You in?

In this episode, Coach Jess breaks down why your future self is not just fantasy. Here, Coach Jess explains why we dream, how we should reevaluate plans that don’t go as planned, and how we can use our fantasy and math brains as a combo. In this episode you will learn: 1. Coach Jess’ network of women business owners 2. Why is Amazon not hard to support? 3. Live in fantasy land first, and then do the math 4. We reposition our plans, not our belief about achieving it 5. So you're not selling enough. You're nowhere near your goal yet. What does that mean? Well, there shouldn't always be a meaning to it, and Coach Jess explains why. After getting married and a little recap of a recent nighttime brainstorm, Coach Jess helps us understand why you need to 'baby' your business, why some people grow fast while others grow incrementally, why you need to approach your goals with a 'done' energy, and more. In this episode you will learn: 1. Treat your business like it's your child 2. Act on your future, not react to it! 3. If a coach's sales are low, that doesn't reflect their coaching; it reflects their selling 4. There's time to zoom in and time to zoom out 5. The road to your future sometimes requires you to drop everything

He was 12, his mother was murdered by his father: He asked his future self for help. Today, Jessica McKinley is joined by Collier Landry, the host of the true-crime podcast, Moving Past Murder. They talk about what it means to have integrity and resilience while facing trauma. And how someone can navigate the boundaries between a personal story and business, and the angles that show how the impacts of crimes against life don't simply end with court verdicts. In this episode you will learn: 1. Behind the murder in Mansfield 2. The point of the show, Moving Past Murder 3. How Collier found the courage to move past his trauma and start his business 4. The boundaries between trauma and business 5. Collier Landry – on growing up in front of an audience 6. There is distance between who you are and your circumstances

About Collier Landry: As the creator and subject of Investigation Discovery's A Murder in Mansfield, the documentary from two-time Oscar-winning director Barbara Kopple, a formally trained musician and photographer, he segued into filmmaking as a means to creatively express and deal with his own traumatic childhood story - the premeditated murder of his mother Noreen by his own father, Dr. John F. Boyle, Jr. - and to give a narrative voice to others in similar circumstances. At the age of 12, Collier witnessed the murder and chose to go to the police. After his father's arrest, he was abandoned by both sides of his family over the heinous crime and orphaned into the foster-care system. His mother's son at heart, this determined and stubborn child stood his ground and faced down his father as the prosecution's key witness during the month-long murder trial.

In the film, Collier returns to Ohio to retrace his past and confront his father, who, almost 30 years later, still remains incarcerated and in denial of his guilt. The film explores not only the collateral damage of violence and its traumatic repercussions but the beauty of human strength and resilience through seemingly insurmountable odds.

Entrepreneurs tend to fail when they set grand goals. “The model” is a tool that Jess, and other Life Coaches, use to help their clients find success. However, sometimes it doesn’t work. That’s why Jess uses a “secret 4th step.” She calls it the “let go.” In this episode, the profound topic of letting go, takes centerstage. Jess talks about how she incorporated what she learned from one of Oprah's Super Soul Sunday episodes, why she made it part of her coaching and how “letting go” can teach us all to focus on what we can control. (Not, on all the other stuff we can’t.) In this episode you will learn: 1. Coach Jess chooses not to work with family and friends 2. Some people get inspired and then lose the will along the journey 3. Why do you need to let go of the need for the goal to happen? 4. You are not the results you make 5. Creating results is partnering with reality

Letter To Yourself… This letter to yourself started back in 2015 with a team and I haven't missed a year and it's so fun because it's heavily reliant on my two favorite things: your thoughts and your feelings.

This letter is a snapshot into how you were and how you thought, and it exposes your limited thinking, and it shows you where you were emotionally connected to your future when you read it back and what worked basically when I do business evaluations with people whether we're evaluating something like a launch or a webinar or a console I have people do a clean evaluation what worked what didn't work and what do I want to do differently this is a more emotional way of evaluating yourself and not just the numbers.

It's a less limited way of doing a reflection or an analysis or an evaluation so I wanted to read you some actual parts of my old letters, so you can just kind of see yourself like what I mean when I say that I have grown over the last couple of years it's easy to see it when you're looking at some numbers but looking at the thoughts is just even more sobering.

“I have grown over the last couple of years. It's easy to see it when you're looking at some numbers, but looking at the thoughts is even more sobering.”Dear Jess, on December 31st of 2015,”

I'm actually going to skip over some sentences because this letter is meant to be really personal. It's meant to be a safe space for you to talk about what your life is actually where you're at, but I do think it is important to acknowledge some of it.

”Today was a weird day it is New Year's Eve and you woke up on the couch to the sound of your ferrets which I don't have anymore being restless at 9am you slept there because xyz i'm not going to talk about it but even though dealing with this can be stressful you woke up knowing that no matter what you will not let what you cannot control determine the fate of your marriage interfere with your destiny for greatness or impede your happiness and gratitude for everything that is amazing in your life.”

Back then the circumstances of my life were: I was living in Florida, in a small apartment, I was working as a waitress, I was blogging, I was newly married, and you know already having some major struggles in my marriage and I had big dreams and goals, but I just had no clue how I was gonna get there and that might be where some of you guys are right now.

So, I want to share this also as a reminder that you can be one place at the start of the year, and you can end the year as a completely different person and basically every time I've done this I've had massive growth and some of it has been really painful and hard and others of it has been just like my wildest dreams.

The breakdown… The breakdown of how I like to do these letters, and you'll see from little excerpts from the other ones as well is, this:

  1. The first part of the letter: I want to be a real intimate description of your day, so I want it to be visual I want it to be something where when you read it back you can remember all five senses of where you were when you were writing this letter and the good the bad and the ugly do not filter it do not sugarcoat it do not you know try and be a different version of yourself that sounds better on paper.

I was really, really raw here. I mean the things that I wrote when I read this back at the end of the year I sobbed. And, it should be emotional, so again it doesn't have to be a soft story if you're really loving your life right now just talk about what emotions are running through your body describe what's around you because those emotions are a product of what you're thinking about your life and your surroundings right, and you're gonna notice different things then than you would now.

“The emotions are a product of what you’re thinking about your life and surroundings.” In a different letter… In a different letter, my intro is talking about you know “my son waking up at 3:57 a.m last night thanks to his two-year molars me and Dustin traded calming him and were able to sleep in, and then I went to a workshop, or I went to Starbucks to lead a workshop a letter to yourself workshop and one person showed up, and I wrote these details, “and I'm just like so grateful that I write this because now I have clients that have this experience, and they just don't believe looking at the success that I have in my business now that I was ever in that spot”

Looking at these letters I just remembered feeling like: oh God like what am I doing wrong? Nobody cares… I wanted to just curl up in a ball, but I wrote like only Katrina showed up, and it was a person that I knew right like, but it went great, and you're reminded of your core beliefs that even if you help one person in a profound way each day you are fulfilling your purpose still always true, right?” I wrote that on December 30th of 2018.

So that was actually only three years ago, I guess three years ago today and even when I read the one from 2019 or 2020 it feels like a lifetime ago, and yet I'm able to snap immediately back to this place because of the detail in which I described the circumstances and the day.

“I'm able to snap immediately back to this place because of the detail in which I described the circumstances and the day.” Looking at this one let's see.. this one was to be opened the previous day “today marks day six of Calvin sleeping in his crib perfect time to get back into the routine waking up early” at this point like I was in a struggle bus of like being a new mom with a kid who did not sleep, and I was just like maybe if I write down that like I'm in a morning routine it'll just happen it's crazy now because like I did get to that place where I was just like waking up early 6 a.m working out all the time like in within this year but when I wrote this down I was like I can't even imagine a time in which I have.

So okay, in the beginning of your letter write a paragraph of whatever feels good for you, a couple of sentences that'll help you see a snapshot of your day and your view from your current thinking.

  1. Then I want you to list some current facts, stats and measurables. I think the numbers are so helpful because we have a general idea of like where we were at, and we know that maybe we're further along, but the numbers help make you be like wow that was a lot of growth or like wow it's crazy in a year I did this like in a lot of mines I had goals were like I barely made progress on them and then in other years like in every year there's something that I had massive growth in and some things that I just didn't really have any growth in and that's gonna happen and giving you enough of like a whole picture of it will help you just see oh where did my attention and energy go this year. Sometimes priorities shift by the end of the year and all of that is okay, okay where is the letter okay

So, one of the ways that I break it down is:

  1. Current things to be grateful for

  2. Current fears to overcome or current challenges that I have, and then

  3. The next section is the goals

    1. the way that I like to word it is things that we have achieved because when you're reading it you've achieved it, right? so when you're reading this letter not when you're writing it you're reading it and your past self is speaking to the fact that it knew you were gonna be here, right? so you can kind of just see how deep your belief was by the way that you write it
    2. In the beginning, I wrote everything in the future tense, and then I got into the habit of being like we've achieved this is awesome, this is what's happened. So current things to be grateful for my first year it was a lot of it was about like Beachbody because that's what I was doing at the time I was a Beachbody coach I was doing some fitness coaching and I talked about how many downline coaches I had this is a network marketing company that I worked for I talked about my weekly income my biggest weekly income was 310 in 2015, and I was like I am amazing like I was just so proud of that my plans I had plans to travel so much in 2016 so I had plans to travel to la Dallas, st Thomas, Paris, Spain and Nashville I went to all of those except for st Thomas because I was pregnant, and it was the Zika virus which I did not know at the time when I was writing this I wrote “it's sunny and 85 out in beautiful Hollywood, Florida. Which is where I was living and Dustin who's my ex-husband just cleaned the house and made goals for 2016 as well, so I looped my husband into writing goals, and I was just like so grateful for those things and then-current fears to overcome the fear that I will fail to successfully balance both the blog and Beachbody to things that I don't do anymore fear that I’m not organized enough to run a million-dollar business which I was just talking about that life right and that fear about some personal things that were going on in my marriage so then when I talked about goals it's just so funny because like now so many of these things like I’ve completely done, and it feels like that was so easy like I really thought these things were hard I mean by today I will have earned a hundred thousand dollars collectively through my like multiple streams of income and I will be expecting my first child which”

When I read this letter Calvin had been born 15 days earlier, and I wasn't pregnant obviously when I wrote this letter so that was crazy I remember crying like having Calvin there and reading this and being like wow it was so crazy even right that I would be expecting my first child I remember feeling still even writing that down, and I had Calvin by today I will be full time doing Beachbody and what's happening which was something that I did I went full time into my career by today i will have read 12 books cover to cover I did do that, uh I will have decided on where we're taking our parents on vacation as a thank you for all their support I did not do that financially having a kid took priority by today Dustin and I will have gone on 50 unique dates. That was one of the happiness experiments I was doing at the time and we did a good amount of that and then some specific goals on numbers that won't make sense to you that were Beachbody related and then some action items to achieve the goals.

I just wrote down some other things a lot of this was about getting my budget together because I didn't know anything about finance, and now I coach on it, it's so fun and when I look back I just remembered being like oh I’m such a hot mess of money I just need to like to make more money and like to learn how to save more money and just like be the new person, but it was very in like a very I don't know just baby way. I don't know how else to describe it.

So okay, you can just see I even have this letter which is to be opened in a couple of days if you're watching this on YouTube it says “Dear Future Jess to be open on December 31st, 2021.”

I was gonna open it on the podcast I don't know I don't even remember what's in it what I wrote exactly I mean some goals but yeah so this part of the goals I think the numbers are really fun and I actually found in one of my letters and this was really smart I really like this I printed out a screenshot of my stripe dashboard which was where I was taking accepting payments from my clients at the time when I printed this out I think this was not even two years ago.

This was February 2019, when I printed this out, so I think I added it later I put my checking balance as of 228 net 201 my savings balance Calvin savings balance my credit card balance my total business expenses my income and when I look at this number my current projected income total between coaching and Beachbody was $34,000 for the year and I remember being like I mad all of this with my brain like I made every dollar of that just with my brain nobody gave it to me it wasn't a salary like I created this income with my brain and that connection and that power that I felt by being grateful for where I was at helped me to that year make double that.

I think I made $72,000 that next year and then this year I’m gonna make about…actually the year isn't over so we don't know… but maybe about $170,000. So I more than doubled that, and I didn't work for a month and a half because I was down for the count and sick maybe two months and so when I look at the numbers it helps me to be like – Wow!

It's easy for us to look at our current numbers and still be focusing on the future and always move that benchmark and just get out of gratitude and be like oh like this isn't enough, and I’m not doing it I just missed my goal because my goal this year was $200,000, and I didn't hit it. and I was very upset about it, and then I look at this, and I’m like two years ago my checking balance was $1,600 and my income was $34,000 like two years ago like there's no rush you guys there's no rush.

When you get connected to the emotions and to your self concepts in such a deep way when you do this exercise and this letter to yourself you're gonna see that the growth is there it's just always available to you just need to allow yourself the safe space to actually imagine not in a realistic way this isn't a place to be realistic. So put the number down there, but dream big.

If you can't do it here you're certainly not gonna just accidentally stumble onto your dreams okay, so you're gonna put the current things to be grateful for the current struggles the things we have achieved, and

  1. Then I want you to end with gratitude and pride connecting you to the future self that moment where you've evolved and you're reflecting. where you're just like “ yeah we've done it like I’ll read you a couple of sentences from one or two of them this one says:

We are all born, and we all die. The variable is in the middle. What will you do with it? I'm so proud of you. I love you. There's more to come – seeking it with an open mind and calendar. Love your younger self.” That was the first time I did it.

In 2018, I ended with “Jess you are a mom now that means you have the power to show Calvin what is possible to set your standard high to be a source of joy and love and inspiration for your friends, family, coaches, and moms. Kiddo life will bring you unexpected ups and downs, but they are merely circumstances your greatness lies in how you rise above them. Shine bright darling, Goodnight 2019.”

You better believe it. You’re your biggest supporter.

I’ll read you one more, and then I want you guys to get going, get going on your own here, let's see what this one says this one says

“Jess, you are a crusher of goals. You were born to change the world and be a source of light and positivity in the lives of your friends, family and strangers. Take your life seriously while having a kick-ass time. I'm so proud of all you did in 2016. Are you crying yet? Bring on 2017. There is a lot more fun to be had, goals to crush, lives to change and yet right now, today you need to just be grateful for all you have. I love you so very much. You're past You.”

This exercise should be emotional if you're doing it right. Which means you need to talk to yourself as if you love yourself, and you need to talk to yourself as if you believe that the growth has already happened. This is an exercise in leveling up. It's an exercise in testing your self-concept. It's an exercise in reflection and it's an exercise in seeing where the math is so that you can start to separate out the facts from the story that you've been telling yourself. For example: that you're not good enough, or that it's you know you haven't actually achieved anything, there's always growth to be had.

So go out there, write your letter please give me some feedback. If you did write this letter, tag me. Take a picture of it to tag me on instagram in your stories or in your post at what's happening. I want to see it. This is always my favorite time of year and it comes out of the woodwork the people that do this letter and they always say how fun.

I love getting text messages I New Year's Eve is always one of those overrated holidays I think but for me, i enjoy the morning of New Year's Eve because I get all these letters from people or these texts from people being like I’m about to open my letter it's letter opening day we call it it's not New Year's Eve it's letter opening day so I want you to be a part of the crew next year on letter opening day and loot me in all right you guys have an amazing new year's eve I hope that you guys stay safe in this crazy COVID time. And then when we talk and meet up again next year you're gonna be a whole new you can you believe it.

Have a beautiful day.

The 6 steps to writing a letter to Future You.

  1. Intimate Description of Your Day: The first part of the letter needs to be a real intimate description of your day. Be visual, so when you read it back you can remember all five senses of where you were when you were writing this letter: the good, the bad and the ugly. Do not filter it, do not sugarcoat it, do not try and be a different version of yourself that sounds better on paper.
  2. Facts, Stats, Measurable Numbers: Numbers are so helpful because we have a general idea of where we were at, and we know that maybe we're further along, but the numbers help make you be like wow that was a lot of growth. An example of a measurable is your income that year.
  3. What are you currently grateful for?
  4. What are your current fears or challenges you need to overcome?
  5. Goals: write these in past tense. For example: “We've achieved this, it’s awesome, this is what's happened…”
  6. End with Gratitude & Pride: end with gratitude and pride connecting you to the future self that moment where you've evolved and you're reflecting. For example: “ I'm so proud of you. I love you. There's more to come – seek it with an open mind and calendar. Love your younger self.”

In this episode you will learn:

  1. Landing a job solely because of reference and work ethic
  2. Qualification is a very subjective thing

Imposter Syndrome is one of the most common things I see my clients struggle with in the early phase of their business.

They're comparing their work with the work of their experts/industry leaders and don't see much of a difference. So they degrade their value.

The truth is, usually there isn't much of a difference (in the VISIBLE part) but you know where there is? In the way that you THINK! Not just WHAT you think, but HOW you think.

Tune in to learn about how Jess creates all of her programs, using Curriculum Thinking.

Did you know that your brain works like a computer? It has some basic programming and then we delete and add additional coding as we see fit. Thoughts are just sentences. We input them and our machine brain reads it, processes it (emotions) and spits out an output (our words and actions) which ultimately creates our results.

Get your mind blown as Coach Jess shows you how tapping into this analogy helps us see how limitlessly powerful we are in creating our results! #Boom

In this episode Coach Jess wishes you a Happy Graduation, as she outlines how you can take your adopted thoughts, run them through a filter and decide which ones you want to bring with you into the future.

This is a process a practice you can do regularly to make sure you're creating more of what is authentic to YOU.

This way, if someone questions your beliefs, you don't have to be defensive, because you've already questioned them yourself.

Language is such an incredible tool. In business, we use it to communicate how we can serve our clients. But, there are so many byproducts of language that, if understood, can give YOUR company a competitive advantage.

Tune in to hear the connection between your choice of words in marketing and sales to your clients emotions and buying habits.

Coach Jess gives you 2 ways to apply this today:

  1. Practice "Cross-pollination" of the language and ideas that live outside your specialty/industry.

  2. Expand your vocabulary. Experiment with it as long that it passes these 2 filters:

  3. It creates the emotional response you want in your client/audience.

  4. It feels authentic to YOU. This experiment is designed to deepen your personal brand, not dilute it to be more palatable.

Let me be clear. Responsibility is not just a feeling. It includes the way we show up and take action. But before any of that, whether in our business or life, in order to feel responsible, we need to first BELIEVE that we are responsible.

Since I am not qualified to use my voice to lead during the current Black Lives Matter movement, as I am a product of White Privilege and shamefully just beginning to deepen my work and do better in the fight against systemic, passive, and aggressive racism, I wanted to instead use my platform to elevate others I trust.

Here is a list of podcasts I previously have or am now currently listening to:

  1. Caught (on Mass Incarceration)
  2. There Goes the Neighborhood (On Gentrification)
  3. Come Through -Host Rebecca Carrol (on why race as the center of most American Issues)
  4. Seeing White (on white supremacy)
  5. Code Switch - NPR (on race and culture)
  6. Rants & Randomness - Host Luvvie Ajayi (Especially episode - Becoming the Right Thing w/ Glennon Doyle. It tackles how to play a role in Black Lives Matter as a white woman)
  7. Hello Seven - Host Rachel Rodgers

She explains how we feel a sense of inevitability when it comes to things like Dentist appointments, doing laundry, and our birthdays - and shows us how we can apply that same line of thinking to money and business.

Tune in to learn how to use the words "realistic" AND "inevitable" when talking about your dreams.

In this episode, Coach Jess draws a parallel between "Negative Space" in art, and the space between our wins.

She suggests that if we open ourselves up to and allow for more negative space (negative emotion) in our lives instead of trying to rush through it, we'd experience life for the masterpiece of contrast that it is.

If you're in a hard season (struggle, failure, disappointment, etc.) this is an episode to listen through until the end!

How can we tell if we're on the right track? If there is no clear right answer, we're supposed to follow our gut right? "Feel" it out?

Well, that's great if you know how to distinguish feeling uncomfortable and feeling misaligned or inauthentic. But in the moment - they often can feel the same!

In this episode, Coach Jess reveals the two questions you can ask yourself to test whether the negative emotion you're feeling in your business is "discomfort" or really a sign you shouldn't pursue it.

If you're at a crossroads or if you constantly find yourself switching paths, this episode is a must-listen.

In this episode - Coach Jess talks about emotional ratio.

She addresses the myths about how often a mentally healthy person should be experiencing positive emotion vs negative emotion.

Hint - it's not what you think.

Tune in to learn about how these ratios give you freedom to process any emotion (especially through this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic) instead of numbing them with food, alcohol or Netflix.

She also shows you her "choose a coin" method to help assess what is currently making up your emotional ratio and how you can change it if you feel inclined.

In this episode, Coach Jess breaks down the thoughts that are keeping many entrepreneurs paralyzed in their business.

This episode, is among a series of episodes being recorded during Corona Virus quarantine and mandated shutdown of all non-essential businesses in the US. But the solutions and tips are applicable no matter when you're listening to this.

"Paralyzed" (for our purposes) is a feeling. That feeling is created from a thought. And we can always choose to find a different thought, if it's not serving us.

And I don't see an upside to feeling paralyzed.

So, tune in, and learn how to get unstuck in your business by simply flipping the script on your brain.

In this episode Jessica dives into the 6 step process for creating the emotion RESILIENT. In the midst of COVID-19 Quarantine, she addresses why she's requires every one of her entrepreneur clients to not skip steps, in processing the difficulty, the facts, and the limitless possibilities for their business.

As a result, more than one of her clients has claimed that Corona Virus has given them the opportunity to get creative, serve a new client, and even created a competitive advantage for them.

On the podcast you hear Coach Jess say that our results are not determined by our circumstances. Pandemics are no exception.

Tune in to see how you and your business can be resilient regardless of what climate you're in.

6 Parts to Resilience

Part I. Believe that your circumstances are challenging/difficult/negative.

Part II. Question your role as the victim in your story.

Part III Recognize the circumstance (in this case Corona virus) as being temporary and not attaching your identity to your experience.

Part IV Shift out of scarcity and into abundance. (Instead of what you are losing/have lost, focus on what you still have/can create)

Part V Focus on creating a new future.

Part VI Believe you are capable of creating that future.

This last thought creates the emotion of resilience BUT without part I it would present simply as confidence.

It's the negative 50% of life that gives us the opportunity to grow and, of course - experience such incredible human emotions.

And from there, we take LIMITLESS action for our business.

Every day I have the pleasure of coaching entrepreneurs. We talk about all of their problems (or what they think are their problems, anyway).

I wanted to use this podcast as a way to show other business-minded listeners that while business isn't personal, it is emotional. You'll see each episode how even though my clients come to me with Cash Flow problems, sales goal questions, and employee grievances to be solved..... the source of the action is always - a feeling.

In today's episode - we're talking about one of the most elusive and mysterious emotions in the business world - motivated.

What you'll learn:

  • Where our emotions come from
  • Why self-motivating is easier than we make it out to be
  • That feeling motivated is not dependent on your day
  • How to cultivate motivation when you're feeling "off"
