Mark wrote his gospel so that he could share about who Jesus is. All the stories so far have given us clues but now, in this episode, we can hear Jesus explain who he is very clearly, and he also explains all about what he is going to do.

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

Bible Passage: Psalm 110:1-2

The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right side,

until I make your enemies
into a footstool for you.”

The Lord will let your power
reach out from Zion,

and you will rule
over your enemies.

Bible Passage: Isaiah 53:4-5

He suffered and endured

great pain for us,

but we thought his suffering

was punishment from God.

He was wounded and crushed

because of our sins;

by taking our punishment,

he made us completely well.

Bible Passage: Mark 8:27-33

Jesus and his disciples went to the villages near the town of Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, “What do people say about me?”

The disciples answered, “Some say you are John the Baptist or maybe Elijah. Others say you are one of the prophets.”

Then Jesus asked, “But who do you say I am?”

“You are the Messiah!” Peter replied.

Jesus warned the disciples not to tell anyone about him.

Today's Questions:

  • Do you remember what the 2 parts of the Messiah are and how do you think they go together?
  • The suffering servant and the Mighty Warrior (or conquering king) are 2 ways to describe Jesus. What other words would you use to describe Jesus?
  • If you were one of the disciples and you heard Jesus tell you all about how he was going to die, would you believe him or would you think he was lying and then be surprised when it actually happened?
