South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas and our very own Mark McGowan aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye right now over the GST, but the WA Premier should give Peter Mal a call and ask how his weekend was.

Not because I think they can be BFFS or anything, but because Malinauskas may have learned a thing or two over the weekend - that MCGowan could benefit from.

The South Australian Premier spent Saturday night in the back of an ambulance that was ramped at a local hospital.

OK, it was a bit of a publicity stunt, but Malinauskas reckons it gave him a whole new perspective on what it’s like for paramedics when they can’t get their patients into a hospital bed.

Just like WA, South Australia has massive issues in its health system. And ambulance ramping is one of them.

So Malinauskas Has committed 124 million dollars to recruit 350 additional paramedics over the next four years.

Now, I’m not trying to make out that the SA premier is some kinda hero here.

Don’t get me wrong, Malinauskas rivals Federal Labor’s Jason “Captain Handsome” Clare as the best looking rooster in Aussie politics.

But his ambo strategy is not perfect.

For starters, I think there’s a big difference between promising 350 paramedics -  and actually finding them.

And it remains to be seen whether the SA plan to directly fund more paramedics will be better than WA’s plan, which will see roughly twice as much money spent on addressing the systemic causes of ambulance ramping.

Only time will tell which approach is more effective.

But with both of these Premiers not being very shy when it comes to media attention… I’m sure they’ll let us know.
