Former foreign minister Julie Bishop has delivered a terse response while talking about her public break-up with longtime boyfriend David Panton for the first time.

Ms Bishop appeared on the Today show on Monday to discuss her ambassador role with Perth-based mining services company Mineral Resources Limited. 

But before anything else was discussed, she was asked how she was going by hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon after her relationship ended in such a public fashion.

“I‘m fine but I’m wondering how you two are doing,” the former Liberal member for Curtin said in response.
