o Men usually control finances, and there often isn’t a lot of transparency. Suddenly becoming in charge of her finances was scary but also very freeing. Taking ownership of her finances allowed her to have more leniency with making decisions for herself and her kids regarding things like setting up saving accounts, etc.
o There needs to be full transparency about finances
§ Share plan and information with your partner
§ Make sure there is structure and communication
o You need to learn more to become more involved, so talk to people and find resources
o Ultimately, don’t be afraid to get more involved and do research
When women become more involved in managing their finances, it allows for more control and collaboration in allocating money and creating budgets. Hattie explains that it is crucial that women start to take control of their money and not let men take the stereotypical role of being in charge of such an essential part of day-to-day life. Using this new advice, it is easier than ever to make sure finances are controlled, accounted for, and not considered a taboo topic.
