How we got the Bible

II Timothy 3:16: All scripture is for profit; this is either the truth or a lie. This must be something of immense value. We want to profit from the “all scripture.”

Here is the New International Version,

NIB 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness,

“given by inspiration of God” is one word in Greek - Theopneustos – Theo – God, Pneustos – breathed, God Breathed. A figure of speech.

John 4:24: God is Spirit.

II Peter 1:21: Not of man

Galatians 1:11 & 12: Not of man

Numbers 11:17: God is Spirit. God could reveal Himself through the spirit that was upon Moses. Then Moses, having a mind, could use his vocabulary and write the Word of God. That is how we got the word of God. Men of God wrote the Bible and did the writing, but what they wrote was what God gave them to write. He gave it to them by revelation. Many writers, but only one author, and that was God.

John 5:39: The Scriptures tell us the truth about the Lord Jesus Christ, about God. This is the doctrine, and it is right to believe.

John 17:8: Jesus gave them the words that God gave to Him, the Scriptures, the Bible, the Word of God. Without the Bible, which is right believing, you and I could never walk with God in the greatness of the power of God.

John 17:17: The Word is truth. This is what the Word says about itself.

God is perfect. His Son is perfect. His Word must also be perfect.

II Timothy 3:17: The man of God (the one who speaks for God) may be perfect.

II Timothy 3: 16 & 17: Tell us what the function and purpose of the Bible are.

The Word of God puts man in contact with God. For-profit to the man. That he may know that he knows that he knows.

Hosea 4:6 Destroyed for a lack of Knowledge.

Jeremiah 2:13: Forsaken me, hewed them out broken cisterns. Cisterns do not supply water, they hold water, but these were broken cisterns. To hew out takes work. You can work very hard and never get your needs met. But you can go to God and His Word, believe it, and God will supply your needs.

God reveals Himself in His Word.

God’s Word is very valuable and very profitable.

Psalms12:6: Pure Words, purified seven times

Psalms 119:105: A lamp and light

Psalms 119:72: Better than thousands of gold and silver

Psalms119:162: Thy word is a great spoil

Jeremiah 15:16: The joy and rejoicing

Number 23:19: Shall he not make it good?

Matthew 4:4: Not by bread alone but by every Word of God.
