Jesus’ role as High Priest exceeds Aaron’s. The author of Hebrews uses Melchizedek to illustrate. In Israel’s history, kings and high priests were separate. As described in Genesis, Melchizedek is both a high priest and king (Genesis 14:18). Jesus, as the promised Messiah, embodies this combination.
