Tina Waldrom speaks with Anji Barker who shares some outreach lessons from the poor. Anji, an Aussie wife and mother, has lived among the poor for 3 decades. She has lived with the poor in Melbourne, Australia; a slum in Bangkok, Thailand and presently in Birmingham, England. Her story is remarkable. She has followed the call of God to be downwardly mobile and to live intentionally among poor communities. The stories lived and the lessons learnt, provide valuable insights for everyone wanting to live an outward life for Christ.
Anji is a qualified social worker and credentialed minister. She is currently, the Community Team Leader at Newbigin Community Trust in Birmingham, England. This community-based organisation aims to provide a place of welcome and inclusion across three sites in Winson Green. Three decades of experience, heart ache and joy, have moulded Anji and her family, into shining lights for Christ. She shares openly in this podcast episode and expands further in her newly published book, Missionary Not Just A Position.
