Naming Your Practice

When I started my practice, I did something exciting; the name of my practice is Santos Counseling. If you want to check it out, you can see it here: https://www.santoscounseling.com/. Well, I went on godaddy.com, and I bought a bunch of domains. I did that because I was very indecisive; I wasn't sure what I would do. My gut wanted to go with Santos Counseling because it connects to the translation “saint.” So, there's a sense of peace there and a sense of calmness that connects to Santos. Plus, it is my family's name, and family is everything to me! Lastly, counseling is in there, which connects to the work that I do. So, that's some of the basis on why I went with Santos Counseling.

Two Avenues To Consider

I bought those extra domains because I thought when the solo practice turned into a group practice, I would need those new domains. However, I never did that. Why? Well, Santos Counseling continued to grow with me. I want you to think about your name, and I want you to consider two different avenues. These two avenues are very distinct. One is what connects you. Secondly is the business mindset. I want you to think about your ideal clients; I want you to think about what your practice looks like now and what it can look like five years from now.

There’s Always Room To Pivot

People will give you all sorts of advice and all kinds of recommendations when it comes to naming your private practice. Of course, I would hear them out - I certainly would. It's essential to have an open mind and look at which direction allows you to feel at ease and comfortable. At the end of the day, this is your business, and you're going to carry it forward. Lastly, I want you to know that your private practice name doesn't have to stick with you forever. We always have the option to change it! If you pivot down the road, it's not the end of the world. You can adapt!
