There is the potential for two errors when diving into the grace of God. Error one is that salvation is obtained through grace plus something else. We would say "yes, the cross of Jesus, but I have to do something." Then there is error two; that salvation is the grace of God then nothing. God's grace is free and eternal, therefore I am not obligated to do anything and my place in eternity is secure.

The grace of God not only brings salvation, but it yields within us a proof of its existence. Our works are a fruit of the grace of God active in our lives, not the cause of it. The fruit on a tree is proof that life is there, not the source of the life. So, salvation can never be earned, nor can we say that we have experienced the saving grace of Jesus Christ if we are content to do nothing with it.
