What a family reunion! Can you imagine the excitement that Jacob felt as he traveled this distance to see a son he had not seen in decades, a son he believed to be dead?

Read the reassurance God had given Jacob. “Do not be afraid to go to Egypt. I will be with you.”

This is probably in reference to Genesis 26:2 when God spoke to Isaac, The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live.” Jacob did not want to be disobedient, and God offered great reassurance to Jacob.

I love that God assured Jacob “… and Joseph's hand shall close your eyes.” Death would come and Jacob would be surrounded by his family. What a sweet promise from God.
