Today on The Leaders' Brief -

• The European Union’s new law, the Digital Services and Digital Markets Acts announced last Tuesday focuses on increasing the responsibility of big tech companies, such as Facebook and Twitter. Spearheaded by commissioners Margrethe Vestager and Thierry Breton the two new laws also address the dominance of big tech companies such as Google and Facebook.
• The United Kingdom, which is all set to exit the now 27-member European Union, has threatened Facebook, Twitter and TikTok with fines of up to 10% of turnover if they fail to remove and limit the spread of illegal content under laws proposed by Britain. Britain plans to introduce its new legislations next year, after the completion of Brexit, which would separate the country from EU laws.
• California based gaming giant Electronic Arts has proposed to acquire British video-game-maker Codemasters, in a $1.2bn deal. However, the deal which could see completion by March next year, is not yet completely sealed as the British gaming company had earlier said that it would recommend its shareholders accept an earlier offer, by one of EA's main rivals, Take-Two Interactive.
