When you think of masculinity, what words come to mind? Protector, provider, strength? What about Nurturer, insecure, vulnerable? How does this definition change if you’re dealing with a chronic illness?
Does our view of masculinity change if someone has a chronic illness? What constitutes as masculinity and is it a social construct? Dunstan Nicol-Wilson talks to me about how his perception of masculinity has changed over time while dealing with Sickle Cell Anemia. He tells me the importance of communicating with family when you need help, going to therapy, and how it's time to change our perception of masculinity.
