Bomphcast is a techno and electronic music podcast series born from an unwavering passion for the music. Bomphcast Audio is our record label.

Our goal is to fuel the techno culture in Melbourne to help mark out Australia as a hot spot for the genre. We do this by showcasing quality mixes, tracks and interviews from artists found both at home and abroad.

We're thrilled to present a mix from Connor Wall, a member of the Bomphcast family.Connor stands out in the crowded field of new artists not just for his skills, but for his attitude and dedication for techno. He's already making waves in Melbourne's techno scene, playing alongside respected acts like Freddy K and Norman Nodge. His tracks, released on labels like Float Records and Bomphcast Audio, are heavy and powerful, reflecting his unique style and interpretation of techno. His latest EP 'Human Obsolete' is out now on Float Records. Do yourself the favour of listening to the EP, it's a masterpiece. Wall's dedication to his sound has helped him grow quickly since he started out a few years ago, and it's clear he's someone to keep an eye on in the Australian music scene. Whether he's DJing or producing, Wall is building.

After a year long hiatus, it's a joy to say that Bomphcast is back. The podcast series reboots with a mix containing all original music by Neo (Naarm/Melbourne). He melds punk and techno music with beautiful sound design, and is practiced in the art of vocal recording and processing. Neo is a highly skilled DJ in his own right, this mix being a showcase of his ability on the boards. Big love and thanks to Neo for recording the mix. We're excited to see what comes next for you. Digitality: Search [Permanence] is ADMINISTRATOR’s second full-length album, detailing Eon’s obsession with the digital world, and a compulsion to, out of both fear and pragmatism, find a solution to the ultimate problem. Something that life has grappled with since the dawn of conscious thought: what is the end? What are the repercussions? Is it truly just lights out? For Eon, the end is an uncomfortable reality; a feeling so strong that it bleeds into the avenues of actual physical life, and had previously wasted many of the finite hours we are granted. The eleven tracks on the album are arranged thematically, from ideation and exploration, through to fixation, internal conflict, and finally, a resolution to the issue of permanence. It proposes that despite its faults, digitality is the answer. After all, at the end of a digital life, 1≈0.

Welcome to Amplified Clarity, the work of budding Melbourne/Naarm artist Neo. The EP comes from what Neo describes as a “bump in the road”, a moment where life, passions and creativity are affected. Then suddenly, an emergence of emotions and new sounds. It's for this reason why the EP is titled such.

“The tracks just oozed out, leading to a heightened level of clarity. Clarity, however, that was amplified” says Neo. “The tracks were inspired by a combination of emotion, moods, and memories, that were then driven by the phenomenon I spoke about earlier.”

Amplified Clarity features 6 original pieces from Neo alongside remixes from French-born, Berlin-based artist Casual Treatment and Bomphcast Audio label head Fergus Sweetland.

DJ Glug is a partner at Connection Verified Records and the moniker for Naarm-based (Melbourne) artist James Keogh. With roots playing in jazz bands, he was naturally drawn toward the textural instrumentalism of playing on turntables and spending weekends digging around Melbourne for records. His track selection combines bouncy tribal beats with sharp vocal cuts and loops, channeling the likes of old-school DJs Hardcell and Technasia with upcomers of the fast groove sound like Rove Ranger and Stef Mendesidis.

We welcome IGLO to the podcast series with this interview and mix. His muscial path at famous 'Thomanerchor Leipzig' and went trough a lot of Genres of which he is still influenced and affected by. Moving forward he's trying to bring his own style of Techno into the world enabling space for dancers & listeners to get lost in interesting melodies, sound design and hypnotic rhythms.

A. Paul and DJ Dextro combine forces on Outburst, their EP on Disturb.

Escorbuto relies more on trippy assumptions, with its deep booming chords feasting on an abundance of space, topped with a dynamic rhythm that keeps the track engaging 'till the end.

Uväll's 'Changes' EP represents the progression of the Tbilisi based artist's journey in music production, featuring music from different eras. Uväll's sonic is unique, a big part of what drew us to his music. 'Changes' has moods, menace and raw dance energy.

The Georgian producer is a part of Tiblisi's flourishing underground scene. Uväll's music has been released on Hayes Collective and Semantica amongst others.

Persecution Complex is the latest from Australian producer E-FILE. The track uses Arabian musical modes to set a tense mood. The track is a part of Limbic Sequence, a four track split EP from budding Australian producers Cobber, E-FILEand Hasvat Informant. The project explores feelings of emotional dislocation, products of a hyper-functionalism accelerated by pandemic culture.

Welcome to 2022 with Bomphcast. To kick things off, a premiere of Chich - X - 010110 (Temudo Remix).

Naturally, we're big fans of Temudo and the whole Hayes Collective sonic. They're the pressure behind a forceful blend of techno coming from Portugal.

Temudo's remix takes away some of the grit of Chich's original beat. Temudo replacing it with his signature crunchy percussion and groove. He layers this warped synth line that carries through the track that seeks to hypnotise its listeners into a trance.

The remix is a part of a forthcoming vinyl release on French label Modulhertz. It featurs remixes from Bas Mooy, Nørbak and of course Temudo.

Kalkú is a dark and brooding off-beat track by Chilean producer Marcelo Antonio. It's one of 10 tracks from Technologia Organica, a "physical formats imprint project inspired by sound, nature, patterns & communication curated between Berlin, Germany & Santiago de Chile."

Organica001 is their first release and a VA, also available on cassette for tape enthusiasts. "From beautiful and natural sound landscapes to obscurity and mental hypnotism, the pieces fits with a variety of emotions, sensations and light for the listener to locate itself in different states of mind trough the journey."

Decoder is on a roll. With recent props from Richie Hawtin as the his favorite new producer/DJ of 2021, the young Texans momentum is only gaining.

Compulsive Reflex is a nicely balance and measured tool track. It's melodic bleeps will have you bopping along in any DJ set this track happens to be played in.

The track is a part of the SYXT023 release, with remixes from Nicolas Vogler, Ketch, P4PS and Terminus. The EP drops on the 12th of November.

It's with great pleasure that we announce the Fragmented Memories EP by Connor Wall, the 6th release on Bomphcast Audio.

Connor oozes pure passion for techno music and his curiosity for the sound is pushing him into exciting places. He dabbles in energetic and raw techno music, inspired by the gritty sonic textures of 90's techno.

Fragmented Memories is inspired by Blade Runner 2049 as Connor was captivated by the story and soundtrack. You can read his inspirations below.

In real life we are basically just made up of memory, that’s what we base our own individual character around and it’s how we continue to grow and live.

In the film 2049, the protagonist K feels and associates himself with these memories he has as a child. On a path to determine the context of his identity, he ultimately finds that his memory has been identically swapped with another DNA and that he is the machine made twin. Which leaves the viewer wondering, how are we to believe anything we remember? Are these memories real, or are they just fragmented memories placed in our minds to believe we have had some sort of “life”?

Premiering a chugging minimal, sci-fi and almost liquid beat by Glasgow's Tremor. Transmission Intercept plays on the theme of old radio transmissions. Its one of many tracks on Oscillator One's debut VA release, a label owned by Tremor himself.

Surana's percussive work is this beats key element. Its a production hallmark that the Melbourne based producer flexes to the best of his ability.

Monsoon is from the Minimalism, Spontaneity and Repetition (Vol.1) VA released by Oscillator One, a new Glasgow based label.

We premiere a quirky little beat from Zisko, one of 19 on BCCO's first VA Compilation from artists all over the world.

What draws us to this track is its beautiful spacial production and tension building mood. A lovely low end beat carried you through what is a dance inducing beat. Nice one.

NOFCE’s unique sonic is the fusion of deep and hypnotic grooves worked over strange soundscapes. The Melbourne native’s time spent in Berlin has greatly influenced his music. The result of this influence is NOFCE’s Smokescreen EP, the fourth release on Bomphcast Audio.

Deep, eerie and introspective moods are expressed across five beautifully produced tracks. The tracks share a deep and respectful understanding of low end grooves induce movement and dance. These tracks are designed to take on the dancefloor.

Danny Wabbit's piece Me is a building piece of club material hallmarked by its sly and subtle vocal. Hitting just at the right time, it brings creates a moment of dancefloor energy. Eerie soundscapes weave through the background of the mix as a bell serves as a constant pacekeeper.

Soft and subtle melodic bells provide a musical element to the track, whislt the drums and percussion bring energy.

Me is one of a bunch of tracks from Influenced Records' 9th release.

The essence of 90s techno runs deep in this conga-crunching, rave-tastic original by Levzon & Isaiah. From the wonky chords that work in tandem with the rolling bassline under pitch-bending ride cymbals, Blended is all about dancefloor energy.

The track is one of 18 delightful tracks soon to be released on Glukkon Records. The VA features tracks from some Bomphcast regulars like Egotot, XONO, and Franz Jäger, as well as tunes from LKY, Pøl, and Ketch.

Our latest premiere features the sounds of Portugal's Holldën, reworked by the Italian artist and label owner Alex Dolby. Alex's frantic remix of Out Of Line elevates your energy levels through smashing snares and racing ride cymbals. Strange buzzing samples work their way around a manic lead synth, further raising tension levels.

It's our pleasure to finally welcome Franz Jäger onto the podcast series. We're long-time fans and Franz and believe a very bright future lays ahead for the young Swedish producer.

His sonic is so unique and is hallmarked by groovy throbbing basslines, bespoke percussive layerings, and textural soundscapes that sound like no other.

Decoder's production skills have the polished sonic of a producer with over a decades worth of studio time under their belt. In reality, the guy is 17 years old.

It's our pleasure to premiere Compact, one of three tunes on Decoder's Seventeen EP released on London's Influenced Records. I love the swung, rolling bassline. It would lift the energy levels of any dancefloor and rock on a big speaker system.

Portugal based artist Temudo returns to Berlin's SYXT label alongside fellow HAYES members, -2 for a two-track EP. After a refreshing summer break, Bomphcast is backing hitting the ground running. Surana, real name Lucky Pereira, is the 97th guest on the series.

From Melbourne, Surana is a session drummer and percussionist. It's his interest in beats and rhythm that lead Lucky to techno music, as he saw a strong connection between his craft and the genre.

I like this quote from his artist's bio: "Guided by his South Asian and African Heritage, Surana was inspired by Lucky’s love for techno after hearing similarities in the way rhythms interact and create unity within music and people. This feeling, a driving force behind his invigorating sound."

His mix is awash with energetic rhythms, dark textures as it moves through various moods and moments.

'Tale 4' is an ever-evolving yet loopy track that evokes moods of mystery and themes of space exploration.

The track is by Argentinian producer Pulso and is one of six sonic tales that make up the Diving the Recovery Tales EP. The original pieced together with remixes from Mod21 and Pris. Mod21's remix is particularly warped, an eerily danceable reimagination of Pulso's music.

Chriz.jae's Cray is a little quirky number in the best sense. The tracks balanced sound descends upon like mysterious fog. It sets a sly vibe as the bleeds and tweets go to work on you aural senses.

I selected to premiere Cray as I enjoy its quirkiness. It sits somewhere between the feelings of sly and dark. Its grooves and soft sounds provide it with a danceable vibe. However, I'm sure its kick would rock worlds when played on the right sound system.

Yant is a purveyor of high intensity, raw cuts of techno music. He's one of two artists, the other being Dutch producer Hitam, to feature on Platform 22's latest Shedding Bark Split EP.

Yant's track Cut Loose is a warping, beautifully crafted piece of techno. The track's title is something of an Onomatopoeia. It sounds like Yant really did cut loose on this one. It's a shame the majority of clubs are closed. I can picture people moving to this is with all the cathartic fervour a dancefloor can provide.

The warping lead moves over a thick, powerful kick. Cut Loose's low-end sound pressure would shake buildings apart when played on a club sound system. I for one can't wait to give this a spin.

Cirkle’s remix of Phil Berg’s original Mirror Maze will take its listers on a sonic journey of mystery and tension.

Cirkle first unpacks most of the track’s elements within the first minute of the remix. We’re introduced to a groovy, rolling bassline and punchy kick drum. Warped vocals and rising pads set the tone of the remix before the melody starts to unfurl.

The melody really sets the mood of the remix. It gives off the sense that you’re off adventuring into a place unknown. It works in harmony with that ever-present bassline.

Cirkle’s remix of Mirror Maze is a DJ tool, primed for introducing mysterious moods to ones set.

Born from the mind of Pat Carroll comes Provener, a new music project that's pushing Australia's electronic music scene in strange and wonderful new directions.

Carroll's productions are considered and composed with such care and intent, highlighting Carroll's renowned talent as a producer. His recent experiment has been modular synthesis.

"Provener is a new project focusing on the more hypnotic zones of electronic music." says Carroll. "I'm incorporating more modular synthesiser work into the tracks, which tend to have quite a bit of improvisation and play in them, as opposed to programming in DAW."

"The original idea for the project was to create music around smaller loops that gradually unfold through tracks, as opposed to the more narrative-based structures I think about for the Pat Carroll tunes. I think the good thing about using modular is that I'm constantly reacting to what it does, and then it reacts to what I do next, etc. And so there is that element of unpredictability with some patches that lead me towards sounds I'd never have thought of using, but end up thinking "I could do a lot with that". So the Provener project is aimed at capturing those some of those sounds and just running with them. The Pat Carroll project is also be influenced by this, but the sounds are then used in a different way."

Provener was born from Carroll's experimentations with modular synthesis. From these experimentations, the Gossamer EP was created. This premiere looks at Lapis Lazuli, the third track on Gossamer.

Like all tracks on Gossamer, Lapis Lazuli's production is on such a high-level. Carroll leans on his extensive knowledge of psychoacoustic music to set a mysterious atmosphere. The ambience is pierced by a strange modular melody. The synth line really takes on a life of its own as it progresses through the track. It feels present, in your mind, a part of your body.

We look forward to what comes next from Provener. Until then, enjoy the music.

As Melbourne opens up after the lockdown, it's a time of subtle celebration.

Our next guest's mix is appropriate for a time like this.

DJ Mitchell Gee is a prime tributary to Melbourne's club scene for many years. He's the former director and co-creator at Autosea, and now leads up Yours&Mine, Dance Flaws and works for Full Throttle Entertainment, Australia's premier sound system.

Ad a DJ, Mitchell frequents venues all around Melbourne in a pre-covid time. It'll be great to have him back on the decks as venues open up.

He's made for us a house music mix, a refreshing change from Bomphcast's regular sonic. As the mix progresses, so too does the tempo and intensity.

The faceless ADMINISTRATOR is back on Connection Verified Unreleased with CVU005 - Exponential.sql - an 8-track data set that plots the current situation of its motherboard.

The release arcs through software-saturated synthesis, exploring calculated grooves through circuit-bent pulses, intricate sequences, polyrhythmic blips, and overdriven pads.

CV family member Fergus Sweetland chimes in with a dubby remix, soaking in warm timbres, as does founder Hooover who cranks up the BPM with his remix of Indigo Foyer - a welcome return to the label after some time reforming his sound.

Egotot the pseudonym of Nico Rinker, a young DJ and producer from Stuttgart in the south of Germany. At 21, Nico already making his mark on Germany's techno scene.

To Nico, techno is a community that brings people together under a common sound. Nico contributes to this community not only through his music but via his Schimmer Records and Liquid One record labels.

Egotot translates to "ego death" in English. This is true about Nico's personality and how he approaches music.

Nico found a path to techno music through reggae and acoustic music. It was upon a recommendation from a friend to attend a club that he found techno music.

Connection Verified [FKA Controlled Violence] is back. After almost 5 years of releases, parties, and connections made across the world, CV felt like it was time for a change.

Their latest full-length offering is from Oliver Moir (FKA Flora Tucker, AKA Sandman). This LP is left-field. Take, for instance, the LP’s title ‘ Rocked Till the Midnight Hour at Melissa’s Bat Mizvah. Brilliant.

The 8-track ambient LP is a glowing excursion through Moir’s perception of the world, as the album hums across vast plateaus, gently weaving in and out of endlessly complex pads, and into the pliant ears of listeners.

The young German producer and DJ is an agent of up-tempo groove infused techno. From his home in Stuttgart, he curates these sound on his Schimmer Records imprint.

Egotot's latest release features on Canticle Records, a newly formed label from Paris, France. Canticle was formed by Assumption, The Parisian shares the musical tastes of both Egotot and Bomphcast. Canticle's first release features various artists, including Phil Berg.

Cypher is one of nine tracks on Canticles CRVA001 release. Its clean, minimal production is a testament to Egotot's production skills. Each sound is perfectly balanced in the tracks mix. In practice, Cypher ads a layer of complexity to a DJ set.

Edward Richards is techno producer and selector from Melbourne, Australia. He joins Bomphcast for the 93rd episode of the podcast series.

His productions follow a deep and hypnotic architecture, relying on percussive elements and heavy tones to express his vision and translate it accurately to the dance floor.

When jumping behind the turntables Edward draws from his meticulously organised collection of music gathered from record stores across the globe, creating a seamless journey of transforming textures and evolving percussion.

Edward has previously featured on the 48th episode of Bomphcast. Since then, his sonic has changed significantly. Edward is now focused on music that comes the soul, sounds that feel right to him.

Fresh off the press is our latest podcast featuring Phemia. The Antwerp-based artist initially used DJ'ing as a meditation to zone out of everyday life.

Disclaimer: The writer of this premiere was involved in writing the music you're now hearing. Self-indulgent? Maybe. But I'm proud of this collaboration with VIL, so I'll indulge.

It's Not Okay is a forthcoming track on HYS.K004, a VA release by Hayes Collective. It's a part of Hayes' K-series, a set of releases solely focused on the dancefloor.

HYS.K004 will be released on the 4th September 2020 via Hayes' Bandcamp page. You can pre-order the release now.

The label's description of the release sums it up nicely: "Although stranded at the moment, music will persevere. Hayes Collective’s new K Series is all about the dancefloor. A collection of tracks by some of the label’s familiar faces focusing on rhythmic fluidity and witty synth work. Metallic overtones and a sense of urgency run throughout the compilation as eerie reminders of a lost world". It's Not Okay is a spooky dance-inducing beat that commands its listener's emotions. Tension raising pads work with a melody and funky bassline to drive the track. The track is mysterious and energetic.

Phil Berg's Facial EP is hot from the first second. The German producer and DJ from Alzey dishes up pacey groove-based club music with vocal lashings on his EP for Liquid One.

This premier focuses on the first track of the EP, Concentrate.

There is no denying this track's home is in the club. Its single word vocal, which simply says "concentrate", would snap you out of any dance induced flow-state if heard on the dance floor.

Phil's Facial EP is available on September 4th 2020 as the 6th release on Liquid One, a sub-label of Schimmer Records.

From its inception as a podcast, Bomphcast’s goal has been to foster the growth of Australia’s techno community by releasing quality mixes from local and international artists. Born from this comes Bomphcast Audio, a record label with an emphasis on releasing an underrepresented style of techno.

BOMPH001, the label's first release, features six tracks from five artists based in Melbourne, Berlin, and Lisbon, each with their own personal connection to the podcast. These artists are VIL, Metapattern, Tillman Jex, ADMINISTRATOR and Fergus Sweetland.

International.

VIL is at the forefront of Portugal’s techno scene as a key player in Lisbon based label Hayes Collective. Having featured on Bomphcast’s 80th podcast, VIL premiers on Bomphcast Audio’s debut release with Contention - a track that perfectly showcases VIL’s distinct grasp on rhythm. A funk-driven bassline builds tension as it interacts with swung 909 percussion to create an unmistakably club oriented track.

Peter Trimbacher, otherwise known as Metapattern, is a Berlin-based Australian who featured on the 74th edition of Bomphcast. Metapattern has been involved in the electronic music industry for over 15 years as a co-owner of independent label Krill, artist, event organiser, and certified Ableton trainer. He provides us with Undulating. The unruly six-minute track delivers strong dance-vigour with a unique flair underpinned by masterful sound design.

Tillman Jex is co-founder of Bomphcast. Born and raised in Melbourne, he now resides in Berlin. Alongside his musical pursuits, he is the head creative engineer at Monom, the world-renowned spatial audio studio. Being in the music-mecca gives Tillman exposure to a wide variety of artistic experiences and inspirations, guiding his music to its current style. Tillman’s tranquill introductory track Drawn is a soul-soothing ambient piece, easing the listener into the collection.

ADMINISTRATOR is an anomaly in Melbourne’s music scene, an artificial intelligence that expresses itself through music. It is co founder of Australian label CV, contributing writer of Bomphcast and member of INSTASIS, a Melbourne based events and podcast collective. His track home_harmonic[system] is a piano and groove focused descent into strangeness.

Fergus Sweetland is Bomphcast’s founder and director. He offers up two tunes of varying style that function as transitory pieces between the softer and harder sounds of the release. Decades Slide By is a soft off-beat track that finds its home after Tillman’s relaxing introduction. Weird 138 is a unique play on a broken-beat track, creating a sense of tension and mystery towards the back end of the release.

The play-order of BOMPH001 is inspired by a DJ set. It flows from softer pieces to harder cuts of techno, taking the listener on a sonic-trip. With this first release, Bomphcast Audio drafts the blueprint for its future in championing the weird and wonderful side of techno and electronic music.

Premiere: Franz Jäger – Hotmail

Franz Jäger’s Hotmail is superbly layered minimal techno. The Swedish producer is heating up the north with his tasteful minimalistic techno cuts. His latest track Hotmail is filled with subtle sonic layers, a testament to his production skills.

Driving Hotmail are several soft, yet thumping interlaced kick drums. They work in harmony with a jazzy high-hat rhythm. Together they create a thick platform on which the track builds.

Franz gently eases elements into the track’s ‘mix’. By the time you’re a minute in, strange looped sounds are present. You’re not sure how they got there, but they’ve appeared. Quite a neat trick that. Three minutes in and sharp cracks and flanged percussion dance left to right around your ears.

There are a couple of things I really enjoy about Hotmail. Firstly, Franz uses volume cuts effectively. Sounds suddenly vanish, only to come back seconds later. This elevates energy. Secondly, I enjoy how sounds are pushed back in the track’s mix. There is a high pitched tension raising hiss that really, once again, sustains the track’s energy and gives its presence.

Franz Jäger’s Hotmail EP [LQD005] will be available on 7th August 2020 via Juno Download. The EP is released by Liquid One.

XONO is at the forefront of a wave UK techno with a strict and pure focus on groove. The Londer is one half of emerging UK label Platform 22. The other half is FLAWS, who we featured recently on Bomphcast.

A DJ and producer by trade, XONO is fluent in the art of stripping his productions back to the bare essentials. To create an emotional and moving response in a listener with fewer sounds as possible is no easy feat. We highly recommend checking out some of his tracks on Platform 22.

XONO's style of music is a part of a wave of rythmic focused beats coming from the UK. Sounds from artists such as FLAWS and Rene Wise are making waves across Europe. This style resonates deeply with us and reflects our current musical taste.

His DJ sets are reflective on this minimalistic approach to music. XONO's mix begins with mysterious, almost ancient Egyptian melodies. It sets the tone for the rest of the set. Each track, transition and interaction with the mixer is considered. XONO seamlessly blends his selections, carrying through the momentum and vibe of the mix. Words won't really do his recording justice; you just need to listen and feel the music.

We premiere Processo (Evod & Oisel Remix) - Divide.

On the back of Divide's Computer Music LP, released in June on Hayes Collective, comes the remix EP. On deck to apply their remixing skills are producers Nørbak, Pfirter, Temudo, Ichizo and Evod & Oisel. The latter mentioned duo of Evod & Oisel is the subject of this premiere.

Before we dig into their remix of Processo, a brief examination of the original track from Italian artist Divide is needed.

Let's not beat around the bush, Processo is driven by dirty, gritty bass. There is no escaping the thumping low end. Wavepads feature heavily, driving the energy of the track as it they pitch up and down. Evod & Oisel have taken a stripped-back approached to create a relaxed version of Processo. They're juxtaposing remix has turned a high energy club track into something more dub-inspired.

As the track begins, the crunchy and wet tweeting sounds transport you somewhere subterranean. To my ears, it sounded like I was in a cave inhabited by synthesised bats. Evod & Oisel use the wavepads to drive the laidback mood. The snare and clap have a loose groove, enforcing the dub-techno vibe.

There's something infectious about pacey, grooving dub techno. Beats of this flavour soothe the soul without sacrificing crowd energy. They act as a breath of crisp ocean air - a palate cleanser in a well-balanced DJ set.

Enter Elias (DE). The Berlin-based artist seamlessly mixes 90’s influences into a cohesive and contemporary whole. The result is energetic dub techno with a harder edge. To my ears, it’s as if Basic Channel and Truncate had a sonic lovechild, hellbent on making you dance.

Elias' latest tracks are being released on Platform 22. The UK label's 9th offering features two tracks from the Berliner himself, along with Kaan Pirecioglu, also from the German capital.

The beat in question here is Involved.

Low-end groove and rhythm is key to Elias’ track, tapping into the body's inherent tendency to dance without hesitation. Groove is to techno as water is to humans - essential and required in perpetuity.

The track starts with a thick yet clean kick - full of body, but tastefully mixed. It adds emphasis to other core elements. Dubby chord stabs, the track’s fundamental backbone, echo through the sound space. They provide sprightly progressive energy as the tension builds.

The first breathing point comes in around 1:53 mins. The track clears unearthing a vocal choir sound that lifts you upon the crest of a euphoric wave. From here, Involved continues to mount tension. Crispy claps and ride cymbals build energy further until 4:15, where you’re released into stripped-back elation.

One of the strongest sounds offered by Involved is the subtle breathing sound, first heard as the track begins. It ebbs and flows around your ears as the track progresses, adding a lovely aural texture and ethereal finish to the mix.

The split EP, titled Step-Signals, is set for release on 17th July 2020. You’ll be able to grab a copy at Platform 22’s Bandcamp page.

Premiering the latest remix from UK artist Rene Wise (@renewise).

Rene's approach to his remix was to use as many sounds from the original as possible. In that sense, he captures the essence of the original whilst being able to impart his own influence on the track.

This track finds its home in a DJ set, as its irresistibly groovy bassline and sweeping sounds take you on a unique sonic journey only Rene can provide.

Black Dahlia - a techno DJ/producer based in Sydney, Australia.

Black Dahlia represents “mystery”. It blooms a dark and intriguing atmosphere to its surroundings.

Feeding inspirations from brutalist movements and industrialism, her character moods range from dark techno to cathartic acid grooves.

Supporting the likes of SNTS, Boston 168, and Adriana Lopez, and playing at festivals Antigravity and Trench, Black Dahlia’s sets use metallic rhythms and driving beats to take you onto the dark ritual that you’ve been needing.

FLAWS (Kai Hickinson) is a UK based DJ and producer with a talent far in advance of his relative youth. Internationally influenced and served with quiet confidence, his music draws you in, giving you something for the mind as well as the dance floor.

FLAWS is already receiving attention for his music in the wider techno scene, with support from respected DJs and guest slots himself at club events in London, Manchester, Nottingham and beyond. Indeed, his DJing style represents an extension of the attention to detail present in his own work, tracks come together on a deeper level but the groove and devotion to pure rhythm is always present.

Whether you are experiencing FLAWS as a result of his own material or arriving through one of his DJ sets, you can be certain this is a talent you aren’t going to forget quickly."

FLAWS' biography I think about sums it up. His tracks are made from minimal sound sources which he uses to create insatiable grooves. They're perfectly paced, unique and considered layers that shine in a DJ set.

The youngster from the UK has garnered the attention of DVS1 (Zak Khutoretsky). FLAWS tells quite a memorable story about hearing his music being played at Berghain by Zak no less. I can understand how FLAWS' music would fit into one of Zak's sets. You can listen to it in the interview proceeding his mix. It made my jaw drop.

The UK talent runs Platform 22 in collaboration with his good friend XONO. XONO will feature in a future edition of Bomphcast, something we look forward to releasing.

There is a lovely cohesiveness to each release on Platform 22. Their whole discography could comfortably be played in a DJ set, in its entirety, and the audience would be dazzled.

Nat Salih is a Melbourne-based DJ specialising in the more leftfield sides of techno, electro and experimental dance music.

Drawing inspiration from a plurality of mood-oriented genres, Nat sets seeks to create a sense of narrative and complexity.

Leftfield is whats on the sonic menu for Bomphcast 088. Nat's selected grooves are the backbone of this podcast. Track progression is spot on, with each new tune interacting so well in the mix.

I personally rate the track playing at around 14:40 mins. What can I say, I'm a total sucker for dub.

Bomphcast 087 is provided to you by Masafumi Take.

Originally from Kochi prefecture, he now resides in Tokyo. In 2011, Take began organising his own parties where to honed his DJ skills.

Playing anything from classic to cutting-edge tracks, his smooth mixing style brings a unique tension to the ﬂoor through individualised loops.

His reputation for his DJ sets and insatiable pursuit of the techno scene led him to play regularly in Osaka as well as various venues in mid and West Japan.

As an organizer, he has brought over many prevalent modern techno artists such as Claudio PRC, Ness, Luigi Tozzi and Refracted, in order to evolve the techno scene in Japan.

In 2014 he moved to Tokyo where he and his friend Kannabi started their record label and party Katharsis.

First of all, I hope you're all doing well out there in the world. This is the first episode we've released since the world descended into chaos. I hope that everyone is staying safe and keeping their minds occupied.

We're going through one of the wildest times in history. This will be an event we talk about for years to come.

The thought that all the world's producers are locked down at home is a notion that excites me. We will witness an explosion of music made during this period.

But, I digress. Onto the podcast.

For episode 086, we have a 7-hour recording from Bomphcast's Late Night Situation club night which took place back in early February.

The night saw Adrian Bell, ADMINISTRATOR and I (Fergus Sweetland) take part in an extended back-to-back set.

The night itself was a huge success. We had a line spilling out from the Sub Club, into the alleyway and onto Flinders Lane. Needless to say, the club was at capacity for most of the night.

Our concept was to conceal the three DJs from the crowd. We did this by setting up a floor to ceiling cloth in the middle of the dance floor. This completely covered the DJ booth. Projections were put onto the cloth which created such a great spectacle inside Sub Club.

It was refreshing to play to the crowd and to only hear their reactions rather than see it. To be concealed took the focus away from the DJs, putting the emphasis back onto the music and visuals. We could feel the vibe from the crowd inside the booth. No sight was required to tell that the vibe was electric.

Needless to say, we look forward to doing some more concept gigs once the world gets back to normal.

Deano is one of the hallmarks of Cape Towns' techno scene. His ethos has a strong focus on DIY. From running a label and events series to curating and designing most of his own visual content, Deano works all have one thing in common. Quality.

His label Knowledge Imprint is a platform for not only Deano's own releases but also for young, like-minded talents. The label focusses on limited edition vinyl as well as carefully curated digital releases.

Deano's music is awash with hypnotic grooves and rhythm. They make for the perfect DJ sets tools. Each moment in Deano's work is carefully constructed for maximum impact on the dance floor.

He's formed his own sonic, one that pushes the boundaries and brings a new sound to techno. You can find Deano's releases on labels such as Konsequent, Concerns, KSR and his very own Knowledge Imprint.

Deano is also an official resident of Cape Town’s top underground club Mødular. It's here where he often runs his own events. Deano also makes regular appearances at Johannesburg’s And Club for long-standing techno organization TOY TOY.

His 2 hour-long mix for Bomphcast was recorded at TOY TOY. If you close your eyes, you can imagine yourself being amongst the crowd, dancing away to infectious grooves and rhythm.

As a music maker and DJ, Temudo is part of a new generation of artists whose work relies on the contemporary approach on Techno. The music he makes has the seal of mythical labels such as Soma, Hayes, Modularz, Clergy, Mord, Synewave or Planet Rhythm.

João Rodrigues began his love affair with music early on. After learning the guitar at a young age, he enrolled at a local Jazz school where he studied instruments and musical theory for two years. At 18 he pursued higher education into Sound and Image at ESAD university, quickly bumping into electronic music. Soon after he became enthralled with sequenced music, citing Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin, Boards Of Canada, Noisia and Extrawelt as some of his early influences.

After completing his degree in 2009, he created his Drum ’n’ Bass project, Medio, that would see him play throughout the country, and even earning him an European mixing prize. Always eager to learn more, João took his musical education further when he began his Masters in Musical Arts and Technology. It was during this period that his interest in Techno music began to spark, and also where his now established moniker, Temudo, was thought out.

As Temudo he joined the Dead Motion Records crew, alongside Low Is and UFO19, carving out his first EP in 2014. Validation from the underground ensued when his “Longe” track was played on the Deep Space Helsinki radio show by Finnish techno stalwart Juho Kusti. In 2016 he put out two EP’s that would see his music spread quickly into the speakers of clubs and festivals. Released on Modulhertz and Planet Rhythm, these tracks were played by the likes of Exium, Umek, Hyperactive, and Emmanuel Top.

Doubling down on his release schedule, he put out four EP’s the next year. The first, on Modulhertz, was pressed on vinyl and included a remix by the legendary The Advent. The second, another on Planet Rhythm, made it into Beatport’s Top 100 Techno Releases. The third, in collaboration with fellow artist VIL, was released on Damon Wild’s renowned Synewave. Artists such as Rødhåd, Adriana Lopez, Blue Hour, and Ben Sims, are just some of the DJ’s to play the tracks. His last EP of the year, released on Affekt Recordings, also roared through the international ranks, with artists like Cleric, Rødhåd, The Advent, and Setaoc Mass playing it out.

Temudo’s most recent creation, with VIL, -2 and Osse, is Hayes, a collective focused on showcasing the distinct output of its artists through vinyl and digital releases. Their first two releases has put them well on the map, with several big guns supporting the tracks. His latest releases in 2019 set the bar higher, participating in Herdersmat Part 19-22, by MORD, having an LP in AWRY and releasing with Nørbak, I will guide Thy Hand EP in Modularz, Mxt (with Moddullar) on Clergy and the anticipated Context EP on Soma. Also, VA's for Suara, Planet Rhythm and Invite's Choice. He is now one of the most important Portuguese techno artists of a new generation.

Nørbak is Artur, born is the late nineties, in the North of Portugal.

His devotion into making music begins early in his life, and since then, keeps working in his studio, day after day, discovering and developing his own sound, diving into ambient and experimental techno. In 2016 releases in labels such as ‘Illegal Alien Records’ and ‘Circular Limited’, reaching the point in 2017 where he sees his recognition going further and releasing on labels such as Affin, Faut Section and Granulart Recordings for the first time, his debut in the famous Tresor Berlin club was also a huge highlight for him in 2017.

Feeling supported by some of the most respected artists in the scene like Oscar Mulero, Dasha Rush, and Tensal, his future can only be brighter than what it is right now, with so many boundaries to achieve, discover, learn and cross.

Mattia Trani has been toasted as "the future of Italian techno". The Italian has been active since 2012. He came onto the scene through his record label, Pushmaster Discs, and his musical output since then has been nothing short of prolific. Since 2012, Mattia has had 17 releases, 2 of which are LP's.

His biography says " Mattia Trani is considered one of the most talented young artists of the techno music landscape of recent years, both Italian and European. Born in a musical family, he starts fostering his passion for music as a child, building his background by studying the piano at first, and then focusing on DJing and musical production."

"In 2014, during the party for the 20th anniversary of Bologna’s Link Club, Trani shares the console with Jeff Mills, and in that occasion, the famous Italian newspaper La Repubblica defines him a “Student of the Detroit school, which Mills himself brought to fame”."

Pushmaster Discs, Mattia's label, has seen releases from artists such as Ilario Alicante, Julia Govor & Jeroen Search. Mattia's music has been remixed by the likes of Ben Sims, Donato Dozzy, DJ Shufflemaster, Echoplex, DJ Rush, Sterac and Kwartz, amoungst others.

Mattia's style takes the sounds of Detroit techno through his own filter to create his sonic, but he is also influenced by classical, rock n' roll and jazz music. He is currently studying classical.

Martyn cant be defined by one genre. His sound ventures between UK bass, garage, drum n' bass, classic dubstep, house and techno.

His completely carved a space for his work in the global music space and filled it with his own sound.

Over the years, he's had LP releases on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder, Ninja Tune, his own 3024 record label as well as on Ostgut Ton.

The Dutch born, US based artist first became a resident at Berghain/ Panorama Bar after a string of successful releases and DJ sets all around the world.

Concealed is a DJ duo comprised of Frederick Sexton & Anis Aziz. Since 2017, the duo has made steadily increasing waves across Melbourne. Their sound is heavily influenced by the sonic of Italian techno.

The DJ duo work closely together in order to turn each of their individual musical styles into a symbiosis of intensely rhythmic atmospheric Techno sounds with complex aural textures. say their biography.

I first heard VIL whilst listening to an Answer Code Request podcast. VIL's track Old Turn New from his EP under the same name on Planet Rythmn really stood out to me. After hearing the track, I just had to have VIL on the podcast.

The Portuguese artist has a strong focus on groove, which is something I'm heavily attracted to as a listener. VIL combines the sounds of 90's era techno but put through his own contemporary filter.

His mix contains classics such asJeff Mills' track 4art, and blends this with tracks of today (in addition to other classic tracks). VIL shows us through his recording that older tracks are still just as relevant today. Personally I think that timelessness is a hallmark of quality techno music.

Episode 79 of Bomphcast is provided to us by Japanese born DJ and producer Kazume Onishi. Kazuma finds his musical origins in Nagoya, Japan. His passion for music draw him to Japan's fourth-largest (third-most populous) city, Nagoya. Techno drew Kazuma to Tokyo, where he proceeded to take on some of the city most famous clubs, including Vision, Womb, club Asia and AgeHa

Since moving to Melbourne, Kazuma has become apart of the Translate Tour & Events crew, which brings a Japanese vibe to Melbourne's club culture.

Rene Wise, real name Andrew Shobeiri. The British producer has already racked up a mighty impressive list of achievements, including releases on Mark Broom's Beardman Recordings and Luke Slater's Mote Evolver label. He's also taken on set at Berghain twice, and on his second occasion, playing the opening set.

He's managed to achieve this at the ripe old age of 22, which I think is astounding. His music could simply be described as "body music". Its pacey, refreshing contemporary techno and undeniably groovy.

Possessing an uncanny ability to create a sound that fuses hip-shaking grooves with a raw but modern touch, Wise breeds a deep sense of knowledge and maturity beyond what you'd expect for an artist of his age. His ear for infectious rhythm derives from a love of classic 90’s era techno, always being drawn to the relentless energy felt in the faster tempos. These influences can be heard throughout his productions and selections as a DJ, winning him a growing fanbase of peers and music lovers alike.

2018 saw the UK-born DJ/producer leaving a strong impression. A digital EP on Mark Broom's Beardman imprint and his first official 12' inch release on the highly respected Mote-Evolver, run by techno pioneer Luke Slater, gained huge reactions from the likes of Rødhad, Freddy K, Blawan and DVS1. The high level of support has continued into 2019, with white label tracks featuring in sets from Kr!z & Dustin Zahn, among others.

On the road Wise has made regular appearances at Jaded, London’s Sunday after-hours haven while his Berghain sets have undoubtedly grabbed the attention of the committed Berlin reveler. The remainder of 2019 keeps this young talent busy, with bookings spanning the UK, Europe and, South Africa with more releases set to drop across the next coming months.

WNDRLSTis a techno DJ & Producer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands who has a strong focus on industrial techno. At only 25 years old, his productions have already gained support from some of the hardest-hitting artists in the industry. Artists such as Dax J, Paula Temple, Rebekah, I Hate Models and SNTS have all had the pleasure of spinning some of WNDRLST's music.

His journey into the deep and dark realms of techno begun when he saw Rebekah play at an outdoor music festival in Europe. WNDRLST had never heard of felt music in such a way before. This was it for him. In an instant, he was hooked and hard and rocking techno.

Music had always played a part in WNDRLST's life. He starting producing loops and replications of other tracks at 13 years old. Soon after, he starting DJ out of interest and soon found himself playing vinyl DJ sets.

Rebekah was really the catalyst that put WNDRLST on course to make a career out of music. Although he has had over 10 years of experience in production, music had never been a career option. It wasn't until 2018 where he decided that he would try and make his passion into his career.

Bomphcast is proud to welcome Italian producer and label co-owner Evod (Evod Music/Float Records/Singular Records) to Melbourne's techno podcast series.

Alessandro Russo has had the taste for techno music since the ripe old age of 11 years old. Like many artists, it was the sounds of Detroit that captured his attention. Having produced and played under a range of aliases, Alessandro settled on his definitive project, Evod.

Evod's sound is best described as sonorous, meaning "capable of producing a deep or ringing sound". His fast-paced mix is a reflection for this, as well as showing the spirit of Detroit in his groove-based track selections.

This style of sound has given rise to Evod Music, a label that Alessandro runs with friend and fellow producer Alessio Politano (Oisel). The label "believes in simplicity, purity and efficacy of sounds and ideas. Few elements can give life to a unique process, a flux that can expand itself and come alive".

A personal highlight for Evod was playing alongside Jeff Mills at Tresor in 2016.

El Grey is an emerging DJ from Melbourne's pool of talent. I first heard her capabilities as a DJ after she took control of the DJ booth just after I had finished my set. She played the closing role to perfection, picking up where the energy in the room was. She proceeded to escalate the energy further and further into the evening.

Alex R is a Melbourne based DJ who finds his origins in Osaka, Japan where he first learnt to DJ. Alex later moved to Tokyo to continue his musical journey, buying two CDJs and a mixer. He starting to build his track collection while exploring the local Japanese electronic music scene.

As a member of 'Translate' Crew, playing regularly for 'Tokyo Love Hotel' as well as launching his own project, 'En Passant' Alex has had the opportunity to support international artists such as Eniac, >Ken Ishii,Takaaki Itoh and Toru Ikemoto.

Local artists that Alex has featured in line ups with include Adrian Bell, Bex, Devant, D-REX, Kazuma Onishi, DJ Kiti, PWD, Mimm, Sweetland and Udmo.

Drawing inspiration from hard trance, heavy metal, psychedelic rock and hip hop, Alex's music selections gravitate towards classic old school deep house, minimal & tech house, hard techno, acid and hypnotic sounds and is drawn to heavy grooves with a focus on improvisational mixing.

Alex also volunteers at Melbourne's PBS radio station and aims to be a presenter on the community radio station in the near future.

Metapattern, real name Peter Trimbacher, an Austrian born long-term resident of Australia is now based in Berlin. His focus is on a hardware and machine-based approach to live performance and production. Metapattern draws on elements of techno, noise, industrial, modular synth music, drone, melody, and atmosphere to create brooding electronic music performances.

2018 was a key year for the project, finding a home in machine-label (AU) for the deeper style releases though the output has recently expanded with faster paced and energetic offerings on Måinmise Records (Fr) and Ravensigh (Can).

Outside of production and performance, Metapattern was involved with a local live electronic music collective who promoted diverse electronic music experiences. As an Ableton Certified Trainer, he works to foster new talent through user group meet-ups and has been involved with teaching for over a decade. The obsession with the techno culture leads to many trips to neighbouring cities and international expeditions.

Stefan Vincent (Dynamic-Reflection) is the provider of Bomphcast's 73rd edition to the podcast series. Amsterdam is the home base of this multi-faceted artist and it's a home that this artist can't live without. Stefan was captured by the sounds of Detroit techno, especially the sounds of Jeff Mills.

When techno hit Europe, one of the sounds hot spots was the Netherlands, with artists likeSteve Rachmad(aka Sterac) really cementing the country as a centre for the music. Stefan is a descendant of the Netherlands continuing contribution to techno.

His art isn't limited to the medium sound. Stefan is a keen dancer and painter. He keeps up with this passion for paint just as much as music.

Hyper Binary, real name Joey Sarantis, is a custodian of Melbourne's techno scene, and he provides us with Bomphcast's 72nd mix. Since 2017, Hyper Binary began as a duo between Joey and his brother Yanni. Since Yanni's tragic passing, Joey has kept the flames alive and burning strong as he continues the Hyper Binary name.

Joey has been taking up shop at many of Melbourne's most well-known clubs and events. He frequents clubs such as Xe54, New Guernica and Revolver, playing shows for and Melbourne Techno Collective to name a few. Joey is also behind promotions group Konnekt'd, which recently hosted none-other than DVS1.

Since 2017, Hyper Binary has had a steady stream of releases on labels such as TMM Records, Nomad Species and Luca Maniaci's Mind Games Recordings.

Noface is the alias of Melbourne born Xander Kazantidiz. Xander has since made the move to Berlin, for both the pursuit of life and music.

Like many techno artists, he finds he origins in hardcore metal and rock music, but it was electronic music and techno that has since captivated him.

This mix is a reflection of Xander's time spent living in Berlin, as its ceaseless pulsing and dark soundscape's capture one side the sounds of whats being pushing in the cities techno scene.

I C S. is an artist based in Leipzig, Germany and is apart of Melbourne/Leipzig label Controlled Violence as well as the Kontakt Collective.

His local music culture has formed his ideology of techno, as I C S. frequented illegal raves, both in and outdoors in spots around his hometown.

Having played piano and saxophone from an early age, the sounds of electronic music and synthesizers began to obsess I C S. Self education in music production and sound experimentation forms the crux of his production career. This curiosity with sound, mixed with the influences he takes from rave culture forms the backbone of I C S.' productions.

"He understands the rave as a protest and rebellion against prevailing social circumstances. He sees the club as a retreat to escape the superficial society and the madness of everyday life."

Bomphcast welcomes Berlin’s Discrete Circuit to the podcast series as he provides the 69th edition of the series.

Originally started as a duo in 2012, Discrete Circuit is now a solo production and DJ project run by Andreas Horn. Horn channels the soul and energy of Detroit house and techno and puts this through his own filter to create the distinctive sound of Discrete Circuit.

His productions have been released on Mark Broom’s Beard Man label, as well as on Delsin and on his own AWAY and Astray record labels. His track acid track ‘Incursion' which was released on DVS1’s label Mistress Recordings was polled in Groove Mag's list of the ‘Top 10 Tracks’ in 2015.

His AWAY project takes the form of a party hosted in Berlin’s ://about blank club, but has had various shows across Europe. Suffice to say, Discrete Circuit is proper tributary to Berlin’s techno culture.

Pinz (aka Andy Lowe) is a new techno act coming out of Sydney, Australia. He has been involved in the music industry in various ways for years, but the Pinz project focuses on music production and DJing.

Pinz forms a cross-continental production duo with friend Pelz who is a Berlin-based artist, so we can expect some forthcoming material from the duo. Lando (aka Antaeus Lando Roy) is a DJ/producer from California who's music flavour is "pulsing basslines, trippy melodies, and machine-made funk". Now residing in San Fransico, the American artist really cut his teeth into techno music when moved to Berlin in 2010. There he was able to gain inspiration from worlds techno capital.

His time in Berlin allowed Lando to focus those inspirations through his own filter, the result of which you can hear in his musical output. With releases on Ultramajik, Hotflush, and recently DVS1's sub-label Mistress Recordings, Lando is to be taken quite seriously.

He has recently collaborated over his new recording imprint Myth Music with close friend and Berlin-based expat Aaron Castle. Bomphcast highly recommends checking the Myth Music catalogue out.

His musical output and technical ability as a DJ and selector have earned him sets at some of Europe's most famous techno haunt. Berghain/Panorama Bar, Trouw, Fabric, Sub Club, Space, and the Dimensions Festival; moreover, as well as a residency at Berlin institution Tresor make for quite an impressive CV.

Marcus Ok provides us with the 65th mix in the Bomphcast series. Marcus' appetite for dark and seductive techno, a passion which formed from an early age and has driven him to pursue a DJ career. One thing he embraces is a hedonistic lifestyle and love for homoeroticism is a big part of his musical and personal identity.

His mix is fit for a darkened warehouse or factory space filled with people jacking to their heart's content. His sonic identity is one that accurately reflects his personal one, just listen and you'll completely understand.

Sebastian Bayne is one of Australia's premier techno exports whose led quite the extraordinary life. He learned his craft during his time in the UK and notably in China, where he played a role in pioneering in establishing the techno scene in Beijing.

Bayne also heads up IF? Records, one of Australia's longest running techno imprints. IF? started in Melbourne in 1995, with Sebastian inheriting control of the label in 2010.

The label has featured homegrown talent such as Craig McWhinney, DJ Hi-Shock (aka Advanced Human) and Honeysmack, as well as a plethora of international artists. Bas Mooy, James Ruskin and Dasha Rush amongst others have been released on IF?.

IF? Records recently released Zeitgeist IV, the fourth such release in the Zeitgeist series. It features 11 tracks from a range of Australian producers, such as Biz, Vokhinne (aka Craig McWhinney), Lateral, Ground Loop and Sebastian himself amongst others. You can check it out right here.

Currently, in Berlin, Sebastian can be caught playing at institutions such as Tresor. His debut performance at Berghain will take place 15th September, so Bomphcast wishes him all the best with his set!

Techno talent seems to be pouring into Melbourne at a steady rate and Katia is no exception to that. Originally finding her DJ legs in Sydney, Katia has moved down south to Australia's techno city.

Her DJ style is one that you can tell is truly pushing the edge of the envelope. Her mix for Bomphcast highlights this, as she moved from techno, experimental electronic to dubstep.

This originality is what initially caught our eye, as its refreshing to hear people bring not be afraid to be different and push the genre forward in Melbourne. Techno has always been about the sounds of the future, and Katia certainly embodies this.

Ranjit Nijjer is a Melbourne authority on techno and electronic music with over twelve years of experience playing in and around Australia's techno city.

One project (amongst various others) that is well associated with Ranjit is Technoir, one of the longest running techno parties in the city. Last December, Technoir held its 13th annual Christmas party, highlighting the parties.

Ranjit constructs his mix using a four-channel digital set-up, combining loops, effects, field recordings, samples and complete pieces of music to create the best possible experience for the audience at the moment.

Hooover moves in all directions. The past, the present and sometimes the future. Focused on digging deep, his love of the vinyl format has taken him through almost every electronic genre possible, allowing him to curate the most intimate of atmospheres. Hoover is constantly seeking to place himself deep behind the scenes of the musical world while surfacing from time to time to share the sounds that he treasures.

Hooover is the alias of a Leipzig based artist who wishes to remain anonymous and let the music do the talking. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Hooover has since moved over to Germany as so many techno artists aspire to do.

Now based in the blooming techno town of Leipzig, Hooover has since co-founded the Controlled Violence label with another of our featured artists, ADMINISTRATOR (whose mix you can listen to right here). Controlled Violence's main mission is to build a musical bridge that links Leipzig and Melbourne, sharing sounds from both cities.

The label has seen releases from Craig McWhinney, Simon Mann and Bomphcast co-founder Fergus Sweetland.

His mix is one of the most aggressive podcasts that we've had the pleasure of releasing. Cruising around 137-140+ bpm, the timbre of this mix is gritty, yet it works its way through unmistakably funky grooves. Hooover has also recorded this mix from his collection of vinyl records which he's acquired in his time in Germany.

We welcome the pace of this mix. It's good to see that DJ's aren't afraid to raise the tempo to speeds which can freak people out. If there is anything this is isn't, its trendy. Thanks to Hooover for providing us with something fresh, new and pumping.

The 55th edition of the podcast see's a mysterious force in Melbourne's music scene rear his head. Raoul Khan is the name of our mystery man, as he has no known social media links on the web. For this, we applaud him. Raoul first started DJ'ing electronic music 3 years ago, but after seeing a DJ set by Peter Van Hoesen in 2015 at Strawberry Fields Festival, techno became his favorite form of the genre. Bomphcast was there to witness the set also, so we can full understand why it changed his perspective as it was unbelievable.

Raoul has provided us with an hour long vinyl session of dub techno grooves, acid and chilled out techno & house, which provides a beautiful contrast to the rest of our back catalog. You'll be seeing his name pop up around Melbourne, so be on the lookout as he has no social media outlets. He'll be performing at Loading Error's 4th party which is to be held at Korova Milkbar this Saturday 9th of December alongside good friends of the podcast Adrian Bell and ACM amongst others.

This fortnight we present another local Melbourne lord that needs to be on your radar: Mike Hunt (real name Matt Radovich). An incredibly impressive outline of achievements can be found in the bio of his Soundcloud page where he briefly mentions supporting a vast range of acts from Aphex Twin to Wu Tang Clan as well as being invited by Detroit Techno Militia to play at the Bang Tech 12 Anniversary Party in Detroit.

So instead of writing it all again here, we thought it would be more fitting to include the context with which this mix was made, written by Mike himself.

“Every May, I head to the US, to spend some time with great mates in Detroit, during memorial day weekend. During that long weekend the city holds a 3 day electronic music festival called Movement. In 2013, I made my first trip over and I have been hooked ever since. This year will be my 5th year heading to Detroit, and since this mix was due around the same time as when I leave for Detroit, it seemed kind of fitting to do a Detroit mix.

This mix was done using most the records I have purchased in Detroit over the last 4 years, plus maybe one or two I have had in my collection for a little while. It covers all kinds of music from Detroit, not just TECHNO. I hope you enjoy it, it’s not the most perfect mix, in terms of it’s production (there are a few mistakes), but I think the music is top notch!

Jim Z (real name James Hilan) is a tributary to the Brisbane underground music scene. His sortie into the world of electronic music begun in 2012, playing a blend of underground 90's hits and modern house. Since then, Jim's range of influences has broadened out to include funk & jazz, electro, techno on more recently, breakbeat music. We can say hand on heart that James has crafted his own DJ style which is very evident in his mixer work. He has a fantastic fader and filter control which brings the mix alive.

Quickly and effortlessly switching between vinyl selections, it becomes quite clear that Jim Z is a skillful turntablist, someone who's committed time to his craft, so much so that he's supported the likes of Terry Farley, Mr. G, Mall Grab, Tama Sumo, Marcellus Pittman, Smallpeople, Francis Inferno Orchestra and others.

Aside from DJ'ing, Jim Z has his own rave-inspired event series called Higher State which focuses on "...providing harder, faster, and more challenging dance sounds to Brisbane's underground scene". He also produces house, jungle & down tempo music under different aliases, notably contributing a track to the heavyweight Garage label SNAZZY TRAXX [UK] in 2015.

Episode 045: Just En Just En, a Swedish DJ an producer from Göteberg, has a taste for the bleak and mystical like many creatives from the Scandinavian region.

His Sputnik EP was a treat to listen to and was a strong contributing factor to inviting him on for a Bomphcast.

When one thinks "techno", one's mind tends to drift towards the action in Western Europe. However, there are many other regions which are starting to make a big impact on the genre.

Scenes like those in eastern Europe, such as Georgia and Ukraine have made headlines recently. The Nordic scene is one which is starting to make waves.

Scandinavia: a boundary-pushing techno region Scandinavian techno is very much a scene that has developed in the past few years and has produced boundary-pushing music.

The unique Nordic landscape and lifestyle have a direct influence on the sounds that we hear and love. Sweden has a scene that breaths fresh life into a genre which is focused on sounds of the future.

After listening to some of his mixes and hearing that the aesthetic of his production style was maintained in his mixes, we got excited about presenting his sounds to you.

An emphasis on authenticity His mix contains only music made by Swedes (except for a Rødhåd) remix and "definitely has a dark and winter vibe, something that is understandable when the daylight hours are so short, and people rarely see the actual sun".

So ahead of you and including some of Just En's own productions, is a truely authentic sound from the far north and the embodiment of a polar opposite state of the climate. Enter into the world of Just En.

Ground Loop, real name Ben Mill, has been ensconced in Melbourne underground music scene for around two decades. The early 90’s saw Ben sneaking into Melbourne’s nightclubs to immerse himself in the rave music of the day. Seeking out more from electronic music, his attention was drawn to techno. The attraction of electronic sounds was enough to grow a keen interest in production, leading Ben to study music at the Victorian University of Technology.

Since the inception of his Ground Loop project, Ben has an impressive catalogue of releases under his belt, with tracks on local label Gynoid Audio and Southern Lights. With his tracks being played by the likes of Ben Sims, Truncate, Inigo Kennedy and Dasha Rush, Ground Loop is putting Melbourne on the map as a hot spot for brooding techno.

A mix from the Melbournian master Craig McWhinney, aka Vohkinne. The producer, live performer, label owner and DJ has recorded this mix at a previous Bunker event held at the Mercat basement in October this year. We hope you enjoy the mix.

A narrative of the dichotomy experienced in the internal world - the ebb and flow between the voices that inform the self.

Svarog hails from Ukraine and brings with him [insert something about his techno sound/dj style]. His latest release, the Hypnotic Eye EP, is a presentation of dark ambiances with inflections of trance styled etherial harmonies and resonant delayed percussive synths. This vibe is in keeping with his love of ancient mythology, from which is name spawned. If the Ents from Lord Of The Rings had to stomp around to one flavour of techno, it would probably be this.

Give greetings to Tred, a Perth dweller who's done the thing most of us want to do: moved to Berlin to spin and make tracks.

His mix for you is a representation of this recent move as he recorded it in Berlin with his new studio partner and used a majority of vinyl bought in the city.

Fergus Sweetland is a Melbourne based producer and DJ who's invested himself in electronic music since 2007. Since then, Fergus has probed various genres and influences, especially house music.

His exploration into the structure and rhythms of house music taught him valuable lessons in production. Fergus' focus changed from house to techno after experiencing Marcel Dettmann's set at Rainbow Serpent. Consequently, he has since devoted his time to techno, both producing, DJ'ing and performing works of the genre.

Currently, he is involved in managing the Melbourne based podcast 'Bomphcast' and performing as a live techno and production duo, Back Burners. This act, performed with his close friend Tillman Schäuble, explores a darker side of techno with modulars sounds and intricate rhythms which Fergus creates using the Roland TR8.

His DJ set's are a sonic experience which delve into layerings of sounds, hypnotic rhythms and soundscapes while maintaining a forceful and impacting low end beat and groove. Having played at Strawberry Fields (2015), Stoney Roads events and for collectives such as Bunker and Stranger, Fergus Sweetland is a tributary to techno culture in Melbourne whose momentum is quickly gaining.

Dave Stuart is a humble man who has fallen into a professional DJ and booking agent life through sheer enjoyment of electronic music. This quote from his RA profile is all the info you need for his Bomphcast: “The music I play is the music I love, pure & simple, I play from the heart…I strive to find the most beautiful deep melodic house & techno for my DJ sets, sometimes driving, sometimes deep & dubby”. As well as being very well known in the Australian scene, Dave has also played the European MOXXOM festival in Dresden and in multiple Berlin haunts such as Tresor, Golden Gate and Chalet.

His booking agent side sees him curating the regular club night Something Else at the Burdekin in Sydney where many prolific DJ’s have made appearances thanks to him.

Piecey is a young man from Sydney in Australia. He plays both live with software & controllers as well as DJs. His productions are considered and crafted with razor sharp intent; a standard of work that is the result of studying music composition at the Sydney Conservatorium. As of this year, he’s embarked on his Masters of music composition where his focus is on complex structures in electro-acoustic music. Piecey’s appreciation and understanding of music is considerably broad and, as he relayed to us, he’s taken the opportunity to have fun with that in his mix for us.

Bomphcast 035: Harold by Bomphcast / Bomphcast Audio

SFBM is a local Melbournian who has a taste for hard, industrial and mechanical techno music. He's an active constructor and participator in the local Melbourne techno scene as witnessed through Node, his weekly show on TRNSMT.tv, a website where local DJ's/live acts have the opportunity to perform over a live stream

Hydergine, real name Roberto Corizzo, is an Italian DJ and producer who's name takes cues from a "smart drug used to improve the metabolism of brain cells and cognitive abilities". He takes interest in the cognitive functions of the brain and with his music aims to ensnare the listener into a comfortable state of meditative immersion. The choices of spectral content, tempo, groove and progression are therefore selected in line with this goal. As a result, Hydergine offers up soft, squishy and dubby atmospheres that reinvigorate our appreciation that Techno does not always need to be aggressive and confrontational.

Other than his Hydergine project, Roberto is owner of the Ranges label and co-owner of the Subosc Label in part with another Bomphcastian, Kaelan.

Bomphcast 032: D-REX [Anniversary Mix] by Bomphcast / Bomphcast Audio

Prepare for battle. For the 31st edition of the podcast series, Lyon based vinyl label, webzine, occasional events organised, and most importantly, techno militia CLFT present our ears with a high energy mix recorded in Berlin institution Tresor.

As a duo, they take elements and cues from the past , as well as the early militia spirit of techno, and bring that energy into and forceful, modern and ravey techno experience. Sergio 69 and E-Care, based out of Lyon, France, lead the fighting front of the CLFT Militia. Two words that define the duo are intransigence and involvement. Who ever is playing, its all about techno. They have no compromise with their music, and this is reflected in the quality of releases via the CLFT record label (vinyl only for the purists).

PWD (Public Works Department) is a regular name in Melbourne and for good reason. His surgical approach to blending tracks along with a very calm demeanor allow for his mixes to flow very nicely as you will bare witness too with his Bompchast.

Jake McDonald makes up a third of Bunker, one of Melbourne's finest techno event providers. A safe statement to make considering they're running Tresor's 25 Years Tour in Melbourne this June jake-artist(tickets on final release). If you're a Melbournian, be sure to stay up to date with their activities. The other two thirds of Bunker, Adrian and Andy, have also been presented by Bomphcast, here and here.

On the DJ side of things, Jake draws his inspirations from many of the names we all admire such as Francois X, Dettmann, Phase and Len Faki. And it was after travels to Berlin, where he, like so many others gained the appetite to support techno in as many facets as possible.

Swedish born Sandra Sundelin and now local Melbournite is a strong contributer to the Melbourne techno scene. She regularly plays at respectable venues and events, supporting names like KiNK, Stimming, Robert Babicz and Sundelin other tasty creations.

On top of her musical contributions, she's also the Melbourne director of Who Knows, a comprehensive music news source covering a wide array of genres and topics.

Late 1999 I descended the steps into a murky basemment whose walls were slick with sweat and vibrated with the incessant rap of a four four beat somewhere in the realm of 135 to 140bpms. At the foot of the stairs the bar lined the left side of the wall, whilst scattered chairs and stools occupied the right hand side of the passage. Ahead lay the barely visible dancefloor. Amongst the spewing action of the smoke machine, limbs writhed and contorted like a Chris Cunningham video.

A red strobe light cut geometric patterns into the haze and the sweet/sickly stench of hash and weed fought for their hierarchy amongst body odour and spilt beer. Ecstatic screams and aggressive, yet high pitched shouts of pleasure somehow placed themselves above the frenetic frequencies that filled my ears and mind.

Tribal drums, scything hi-hats and cymbals and that unrelenting four to the floor beat poured over me, drenched me and elevated me above the temporal here and know. Physically and spiritually I was undergoing a life changing and life affirming transformation - nothing would be the same again.

That was my first experience of Voodoo in Liverpool, UK one of the premier Techno nights that ran in Britain. James Ruskin was on the ones and twos and I was to see him play again over the following years at the Orbit in Leeds and Atomic Jam in Birmingham to name but two. Week in, week out I went all over the UK following this sound and the purveyors of this music. Lost in London, House of God in Birmingham, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Space DJz, Oliver Ho, Robert Hood, DJ Rush, Regis, Surgeon, Claude Young and many, many more.

Following their examples I got myself decks and a mixer (and an healthy appetite for buying vinyl) and attempted to create those moments of musical magic and bliss in the confines of my bedroom. Like an acolyte of the occult and magick, my pentagrams, melted candles and burnt offerings were the platters of 1210s and the faders of a Pioneer DJM600 with an apparently never ending supply of virgin vinyl.

And so, 16 years later I find myself still in the confines of my 'bedroom' attempting to conjure up the Techno spirits of yore, but 1210s have transmogrified into a Traktor S4 and black circles of wax have become files of flac and 320 - yet still I like to believe that the essence and dynamism has remained:, that ability of instigating emotions and memories and rejuvenating the dark beauty of that thing we know and love called Techno.

To mark our first anniversary as a podcast, we have the pleasure of bringing you some prime cuts of techno from one of Amsterdam's most promising techno duo’s, TWR72.

TWR72 represents tough, stripped back and intricate pulsing rhythms with a big emphasis on groove. The duo hold the element of groove in utmost importance, and is one of the key elements that steers their label, Float Records.

The notion of groove is evident in their Bomphcast mix. Its an hour of no nonsense serious techno that induces movement within you, whether it be a bob of the head or a full blown stomp out.

We're always proud to present hand selected techno music. But this is a double whammy. Not only is ACM a local Melbourne musician, but he also plays live using analogue hardware and no computer.

He originally begun as a DJ (and still does when booked to do so), but transitioned to a hybrid DJ/Live setup after seeing the way Jeff Mills performed in 2013. Since then, he's gone down the full analogue path for his live sets. We normally request mixes/recordings to be done exclusively for this podcast, but with the amount of recent articles downplaying the effectiveness of live techno, we are compelled to offer a solid counter argument.

A run down of his setup is quoted here from his interview on whonosmusic.com: "The heart of my live show at the moment is the Arturia Beatstep Pro – this is the main sequencer for everything. For drums I use a Vermona DRM1 and an MFB 522. The majority of my bass lines come from the Moog Slim Phatty but I like to take the Korg Volca Bass and Mochika as back up. For arpeggios, pads, leads and all sorts of other whacky stuff I use my Roland System 1 and Korg MS2000r. I’ve also got a Kaosspad in my setup for its variety of delays and reverbs. That’s everything at the moment."

Trinity is a Sydney local who performs as a live act as well as DJ’s. She runs her own night called 4our and is a regular in the circuit of Berlin and greater Germany playing at venues such as Harry Klein, Studio R and Tresor.

Her style resides primarily within a circle made up of Detroit techno, minimal, house and ambient music. This mix is a blend between ambient and down tempo techno, a tasty combination. Back Burners are a new live and production duo. Having only been producing together for 7 months and getting their live rig up and running in the last 5 months, it's exciting to hear the quality they are already putting out. This Bomphcast is a 100% live improvisation with a Eurorack format modular synthesizer, Moog Mother 32 and a TR8 drum machine. We can vouch for it being 100% live as we were there when they recorded it at their home studio.

Smoke is a newly formed techno duo delivering an onslaught of bass driven, reverb heavy, dark and choleric techno by SFBM and Alter Mind. This Bomphcast is mixed on Traktor, however the duo also perform using hardware setups and produce in the studio as well.

As well as citing Oscar Mulero, Shifted, Regis, SHXCXCHCXSH, Developer, Ancient Methods and Headless Horseman as their major influences, they also draw inspiration "from the wider concepts of science, engineering and technology" for the productions and vibe towards techno music in general.

Hidden identities and non-existent internet presence will either aid or hinder a producer. This is because the music becomes the one offering that's relied upon to bring audiences back, instead of being assisted by overactive social media feeds pluging gig and mix announcements. Don Blaster is an example of someone who's from the anonymity path and doing it well. Back-Burners Don Blaster (left) & Catalyst from Back Burners He comes from the Melbourne based duo, Back Burners, who are predominantly a live act and production team. However, he also has a lust for spinning tunes. If you were to only know Don Blaster from the Back Burners operation, you wouldn't pick that he's not only a slayer of the TR-8, but also a heat bringer behind the decks as you will hear with this two hour mix.

Shine (Torque) is a producer and club owner from Japan who's played at many premiere clubs around the world in locations such as London, Moscow, Mongolia, Slovakia, Amsterdam, Spain, and Japan.

The Italian peninsula is known for its output of powerful, atmospheric and emotive techno, and Luigi Tozzi is just one supreme example of this type of sound. Hailing from Rome, Tozzi is a young producer and DJ who's Luigi-Tozziinfluenced by the deep and atmospheric sounds that are coming from the capital city and whose contributions to techno have piqued the interests of Edit Select, Claudio PRC and Deepbass; producers who Tozzi has featured with on the Outis Music imprint. Tozzi has also released on Dynamic Reflection and swedish label Hypnus Records.

We really enjoy the vibe of this mix, as it takes you on a deeply introspective journey of the mind while allowing yourself to feel like you're floating out in the cosmos.

Originally from Glasgow and now residing in Melbourne is the DJ and label owner, David Keane (Batton). In terms of nocturnal life, he's made numerous appearances at the super crispy Bunker parties here in Melbourne as well as playing along side DJ's such as Rebekah and Clouds. During the daylight hours he operates his label, One4sevenone, a label that's aimed at allowing up and comers to have their music heard.

Kris Wadsworth is a name synonymous with original sounding techno, in both meanings of the word. Growing up and absorbing the electronic music culture in Detroit set Kris on a path that would lead him to becoming one of the Techno Titans of our generation, a stature consolidated by his recent signing to Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic label.

Kris is strictly a vinyl only DJ because, as he says in his interview with Bomphcast (below), he sees “vinyl as the cornerstone of [techno] music’s identity”. We at Bomphcast couldn’t agree more. Vinyl DJ’s will by default consistently bring a party with deeper dimensions, as the skill involved in mixing records commemorates the DJ’s appreciation for the music and therefore the appreciation of a heaving crowd. His sets are no different.
