This week we talk all about Guardianship, Power of Attorney, Long Term Care... and other "scary" and confusing terms that can come up when planning care for your loved one. All with the help of Kate, a social worker at the Penn FTD Center.
But before that, we dive into our friend Keri's personal experience getting Guardianship for her father, Mark. We recorded this interview last fall, and in February, Mark passed away after a very long journey with FTD.
We want to take a minute to acknowledge Keri for the amazing job she did caring for her dad...all while being a wife, raising her little kids and being a fierce FTD advocate. You're a superhero, Keri.

This week we tackle ritualistic behaviors with Gillian Bradley MA, BSN, RN from the Penn FTD Center. Gillian works with caregivers and families to understand ritualistic and compulsive behaviors and come up with strategies for managing them. Ritualistic behaviors can include things like constant pacing, repeating the same phrases, eating the same foods, walking the same routes, and more... and Gillian helps us to understand a little bit more about the patterns of behavior and how it relates to what is happening in the brain as well as shares some learnings from families in clinic.

Today's episode is brought to you by The Algernon Project.
The Algernon Project founders Ben and Keri Allen walk us through the long and hard fought journey of receiving a Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) diagnosis for Keri's father, Mark. They explain how this heartbreaking experience of constant misdiagnosis motivated them to explore an algorithm to assist radiologists in spotting subtle brain atrophy.
As our season is coming to an end, we feel it's a beautiful thing to share how a young couple has taken their trauma experience and channeled their talents into healing and helping others. Take a listen and follow them on social media to follow along on their journey to raise awareness for FTD and eradicate misdiagnosis of FTD @algernonproject.

Today's story is told from the sibling perspective of the FTD journey and it's full of confusion, sorrow - but also sweet sisterly love.
Today, we hear from Brianna, founder of Waverles, as she lovingly tells the story of her older sister, Daria.
Daria's progression was severe and swift, leaving a family in shock of what had just happened - and the complexity of the global pandemic on top of it all.
Daria - wife, mother, daughter - and incredible social worker of 17 years - touched so many lives in her short time on this earth.

Today's episode features actor and Filmmaker Katie Prentiss.
We connected through learning about Front Porches, a film Katie created based loosely on her experience with her mother's Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) journey.
Today's episode may feel like you're listening in to a conversation between old friends (aren't the best kind of podcasts like that, though?)... as we instantly connected with Katie and loved the way she described the heartbreak of her experience with her mother Maggie... the stress of caregiving, the pressures of holding pain and joy in the same moments -- but also how she found ways to light she let shine in.
Thank you Katie, for sharing your story with us! We can't wait to watch Front Porches with you.

This story, told by Shay, beautifully outlines the devastation FTD (or Pick's disease, as she refers to it) causes. Shay was in elementary school when her sweet mom, Mrs. Hast began to exhibit symptoms. The journey is full of tenderness and pain and Shay so eloquently describes the dance between the two.
The story unfolds but the rawness continues. Shay takes us through darkness and hurt but also shares such a beautiful relationship she had with her mother. Mrs. Hast won our hearts and so has her sweet daughter, Shay.
We are excited to share our first story of our new season - as we feel deeply connected to all its parts. Thanks for your openness, Shay.

Our much anticipated interview with singer-songwriter, and wonderful human being, Parker McKay.
Parker won over the hearts of many this fall as a contestant on NBC's The Voice, where she was chosen to be a member of Kelly Clarkson's team. Parker revealed on the show that weeks before leaving for taping, her mother Tracey had died from complications of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) at age 57.
We feel so fortunate that Parker wanted to join us to tell more of her story - and share more about who her mother Tracey was before FTD.
Parker is just as she appears on TV - kind, charming, genuine… and her love for her mother Tracey beautifully shines through in this episode. We can't wait to have our new BFF Parker back in the future as we know she is going to continue to be an amazing advocate for this disease. We love you, Parker! -xxR+M

This week, we chat with Shari about her mother's relatively new diagnosis of Primary Progressive Aphasia and Vascular Dementia.
Shari is SO open about her feelings during this journey - the frustration, the guilt, and the grief...and ugh, we love it when people are just so vulnerable and honest... because we know it helps all of you (and it helps us too!). One of the biggest things we took away from this interview was Shari's amazing ability to just let her mom be. Dementia can make people have odd behaviors and it's very easy to want to correct them or get embarrassed - but Shari just seems to meet Linda where she's at and accept her and go with the flow. It's beautiful and inspiring!
At the end of the episode we learn all about fiercely independent, talented artist, Linda. Thank you to Shari for sharing her with us. We hope you enjoy the episode and please let us know what you think by commenting on the episode art on instagram. @remembermepodcast xxR + M

This week, we proudly present an interview with Lauren Miller Rogen, Filmmaker, Alzheimers Advocate, co-founder of HFC, and now friend of Remember Me.
Lauren openly shares her mother Adele's journey with early onset Alzheimers disease... and she shares the journey with such honesty, vulnerability and love. She talks about what it was like to try and start her life in Los Angeles while her conflicted heart wanted to be back in Florida with her mom - a feeling many of us know all too well. And of course, we talk all about her incredible mom - who she was before the disease - an amazing teacher and mother.
This conversation was so relatable - the feelings, the heartache, it is all the same to what we felt with our own parents... and Lauren did an amazing job of showing us her accept the good outlook - creating a beautiful community and incredible resources through HFC. Below, you'll find a link to our blog post with some great resources from HFC that we think you should check out ASAP: 5 HFC Resources You Should Check Out Now
Thank you to Lauren (and to Seth) for the amazing work they are doing for this community. For giving this community a voice. We are so thankful.

Stephanie shares her husband Paul's current journey with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD). Stephanie is so beautifully honest about some of the lesser spoken about parts of the journey and shares what it's like to have her once incredibly supportive and loving partner change so drastically. We loved learning about who Paul truly is - an accomplished and celebrated mechanical engineer, a loving, supportive safe haven for his wife, and a doting father to his incredibly smart girls. Thank you to Stephanie for sharing her story with all of us.

Caroline shares her journey with her mother, Margaret, a beloved family physician, who was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) at age 59. Caroline opens up about what this journey has been like, grieving her mother and best friend while she is still living, and also managing the 800 mile distance between them.
We spend a good deal of this episode talking about transitioning a loved one into residential care. We know this is a topic that comes up a lot in our community so definitely be sure to listen if that has been a part of your journey.
Caroline also came on to promote the FTD Hot Shot Challenge, a viral campaign to raise awareness for FTD, so make sure to check that out HERE.

It's World FTD Awareness Week so we decided to do something special!
This episode contains excerpts of stories of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) previously told on Remember Me. We collaged this episode together to share a snapshot of some of the first signs of FTD, the journey of receiving the diagnosis, and the heartbreaking realization that this disease has no treatment or cure. The featured stories are told from the perspectives of children, spouses, and siblings from all over the United States and beyond.
It is short and sweet, and we invite you to share it with friends, neighbors, coworkers, doctors and more... help us #endFTD and raise awareness. If you know someone affected by this disease, let them know they are not alone, we are here.
This episode is dedicated to our parents, Lia and Frank. We miss you + we'll never stop fighting for you.
xx Rachael + Maria

Shelley shares her journey with her mother, Mary, who was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia in her 50s, and died suddenly 6 years later.
This is a heartbreaking story but Shelley is a wonderful storyteller - funny, witty and no doubt someone who accepts the good. One of our favorite parts was getting into all the feelings of being mom's while going through this journey with our parents.
Shelley's mom Mary was really special. We hope you carry some piece of her with you after hearing this episode.

This month, we’ve partnered with The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (The AFTD) on their 10th annual fundraising and awareness campaign With Love. Centered around Valentine’s Day, this February based campaign is an opportunity to honor or remember someone that has been affected by FTD. This one-month fundraiser aims to raise critical FTD awareness and funds for AFTD’s mission while telling stories with love.
