It's no secret that men in Western culture tend to struggle with emotional intimacy. It seems almost ingrained in our culture. Ryan stumbled on a comment from a Reddit post that seemed to offer an interesting perspective on why men find being emotionally intimate so difficult and how that impacts our romantic relationships before they've even started.

In November, SDA Pastor Burnett Robinson stepped down after making egregious statements from his pulpit that went viral. I look at 4 different examples of how Adventists (individually and corporately) jump on celebrities and the most basic media attention in order to justify our presence and relevancy. I also talk about why this is damaging and a potential reason for why this happens. The people I specifically reference on this episode I am not condemning, but I do think the way we treat these people is harmful for them and for us.

On this episode I talk about the importance of really trying to listen and understand someone's experience rather than simply trying to prove them wrong. Social media takes away the benefit of nonverbal communication to help us understand each other, so we must be diligent and intentional to understand the experiences of others and ask why they may be saying something or doing something. Let's be quick to understand rather than quick to prove wrong. This is a shorter episode for a couple reasons: I wanted to be succinct on a lot of this and I didn't want the length gating someone who might otherwise not listen. This episode I dive into how we as a church can approach LGBTQ+ conversations in more contructive, practical, and sensitive ways. Ultimately, this subject isn't as clear-cut in Scripture as we want it to be, and that fact should lead us to be intentional and patient in how we approach a group that has long faced difficulty and rejection. I explore key harmful terms used by well-meaning Christians in conversations, I also discuss the historical context around Romans 1:26-27, one of the premiere texts used to discuss LGBTQ+ matters. My goal in this episode is not to dig a theological trench on one side or the other, but hopefully build a bridge between the two in order to create healthy and positive conversations in the future.
