When you don’t realize you’re being brainwashed, you don’t realize what you’re missing until you see the other side of it.”

Miriam Haart grew up in an ultraorthodox Jewish community that convinced her girls should not be educated or have ambition beyond the home. She always felt different and guilty for not fitting in so she started questioning the social norms of her religious community. Miriam shares how she broke free to live her truth personally, socially, and sexually. She currently stars in the top 10 hit series, ‘My Unorthodox Life’ on Netflix and just graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Computer Science. In this episode, Lisa Carmen Wang interviews Miriam about:

  • How she broke free of religious brainwashing, guilt, and shame
  • How she continues to challenge the status quo today about how “women are supposed to be”
  • How she taught herself to code and went from below-average ACT score to getting into Stanford
  • How she sets big audacious goals and convinces herself that it is possible
  • How she released guilt around “internalized homophobia” to live her truth sexually
