A  Stitch in time

Time management is an important part of achieving success.  Today I want to discuss with you a saying that is accredited to Benjamin Franklin.  “A stitch in time saves nine.”  It refers literally to a piece of cloth or clothing that will continue to unravel if one does not repair it in a timely manner.  A stitch to repair a garment, done now, will suffice.  Whereas to wait until later, the garment will continue to unravel until nine more stitches will be needed to repair the garment.

This adage applies easily to many situations in which one is inclined to procrastinate, which means to put it off until a later time.  Such delay risks a much more complicated task at a later time to achieve the same result.  If procrastination means “not now, later,” then the opposite of that is “now, not later,'' which is self-discipline.

Being successful involves taking the time to plan, to set goals and to put tasks on schedules, and then to manage one's time efficiently so that the goals are achieved on time, and without unnecessary delay.  Sometimes goals and plans must be revised, based upon new information or upon unforeseen obstacles.  But the principles still apply.

I encourage you to make the most of your time, to achieve the most in the time you have.

It is what successful people do.
