In this episode, Dave Kozak and Joe Kerins interview Julie Yindra, the Director of Student Access Services at Hofstra University. Julie Yindra explains that the primary mission of her office is to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and expected at Hofstra. Her team provides accommodations to level the playing field for students with different challenges or disabilities, from mobility challenges to learning disabilities. Student Access Services is the first point of contact for students who need accommodations or assistance, and they provide a wide range of services, from providing wheelchair-accessible rooms to access to alternate-format textbooks and specialized exams. They also help students who may not know what accommodations they need or qualify for, given the demands of the college environment.
