When we hear Jesus calling the fishermen in Luke to lay down their nets and follow him to be "fisher of men," some may hear Jesus calling working men away from a livelihood that supports their family and village. Who will catch the fish to feed the family? I share how the Philippines and Newfoundland shed new light on this reading for me as well as what it can mean to be called by God. The sermon is based on the readings for today: Isaiah 6:1-13, 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, and Luke 5:1-11. The sermon was preached at Church of the Annunciation with a similar sermon preached at Mt. Olivet Episcopal Church.
