Professor Emily Pentzer grew up in Indiana and and received her B.S. in Chemistry from Butler University. She completed her Ph.D. at Northwestern University where her thesis work focused on metathesis routes for preparing and polymerizing unsaturated medium-sized lactones and lactams under the direction of Professor Sonbinh T. Nguyen. She then worked with Professor Todd Emrick in the Polymer Science and Engineering Department at UMass Amherst where she focused on the synthesis and assembly of electronically active materials for organic photovoltaics as part of a DOE EFRC on Polymer-Based Materials for Harvesting Solar Energy. Prof. Prof. Pentzer is now an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering as well as Associate Professor Chemistry at Texas A&M University. Her lab broadly works on fundamental organic chemistry to build next generation materials; inspired by various applications, specifically for the management of energy. Her lab is interested in 2D particles at interfaces, orthogonally responsive molecules, development of novel polymer backbones by chain growth polymerizations, and additive manufacturing.
