This episode is brought to you by LMNT! Spelled LMNT. What is LMNT? It’s a delicious, sugar-free electrolyte drink-mix. I tried this recently after hearing about it on another podcast, and since then, I’ve stocked up on boxes and boxes of this and usually use it 1–2 times per day. LMNT is a great alternative to other commercial recovery and performance drinks. As a coach or an athlete you will not find a better product that focuses on the essential electrolyte your body needs during competition. LMNT has become a staple in my own training and something we are excited to offer to our coaches and student-athletes as well. LMNT is used by Military Special Forces teams, Team USA weightlifting, At least 5 NFL teams, and more than half the NBA.

You can try it risk free. If you don’t like it, LMNT will give you your money back no questions asked. They have extremely low return rates. LMNT came up with a very special offer for you as a listener to this podcast. For a limited time, you can claim a free LMNT Sample Pack—you only cover the cost of shipping. For US customers, this means you can receive an 8-count sample pack for only $5. Simply go to DrinkLMNT.com/JustinClymoto claim your free 8-count sample pack.

[00:03:24] I thought that college coaches it just wasn't really a profession that people actually got to do.

[00:03:58] It was like something that people won a lottery and that's how they got to have the coaching part be their full-time job. I've been fortunate. I won that lottery.

[00:05:26] If you want to be great, if you want to beat the competition it's an all the time thing.

[00:07:51] The importance of a clear message to the team, to the entire program day in and day out. I think setting that bar high. Never lowering it for anybody, no matter how good they are.

[00:09:06] Choose the hard right versus the easy wrong.

[00:10:23] The value of using different media forms to get to players, to connect with players.

[00:10:44] I think that another thing that to me is a non-negotiable is just, you know, the ability coaches to tell the truth and speak from the heart to their players that they're coaching and to the players that they're recruiting and to everybody else in their program.

[00:11:15] The good leaders that I've been around it's been much more of a under promise, over deliver mentality.

[00:12:22] That player, he's going to go that extra mile. He's going to find a way rather than an excuse.

[00:14:53] The most successful programs that have been around they've all done things intentionally within the team, within the structure of the program to create that culture.

[00:18:12] They put the team first and I know that all starts at the top.

[00:19:01] There's so many things that just transcend from one sport to another when it comes to that team component.

[00:21:06] A big turning point for me when I became a head coach for the first time in that you start to realize that coaching is so much more than just winning a baseball game. When you're coaching, you're with these players more than any other person in their lives at the college level. As a high school coach, you're more influential on these players than anybody else in their lives, other than maybe them, your parents.

[00:25:59] I've got to provide that same information for a player and say it in 10 to 15 different ways till it finally clicks for the player.

[00:27:00] I see too many players looking for mechanics to be this magic sprinkling dust that's going to turn them into the best hitter in the world, overnight.

[00:29:43] Always make sure you are where your feet are.

[00:31:24] There's three big reasons that I think multi-sport athletes are just so much better suited than single sport athletes.
