We remember the verse from Deuteronomy chapter 5 which says, "You shall have no other gods before Me." In today’s study we move into chapter 6 which continues with the same premise that we are to have no other Gods before the Lord God Almighty. Chapter six is a call to fear the Lord, to be in reverence of Him, with awe and total devotion. In verse 4, we read, “Hear, O Israel” … This begins the great Shema, which means “listen” and is recited by every Jew throughout the world both morning and night.
