In this episode, we explore multiple aspects of the power of being given a diagnosis. Who should and should not be offering a diagnosis? Is it empowering to be given one or is it a curse? How can EFT tapping be most effectively utilized to work with the “sentence” that the naming of a condition can offer? When one is shared with a patient, is it done in a way that empowers and supports healing or can it diminish a sense of control and possibility? This podcast has been revamped since a much earlier interview focused on this topic and was one of our most popular interviews.

Alina Frank and Dr. Craig Weiner interview Dr. Adriana Popescu about the similarities and differences between EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques Tapping and Brainspotting. Comparing EFT Tapping with other Trauma Informed Techniques. This series of interviews is the culmination of a desire to help illustrate the similarities and differences that exist between the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping) and other therapeutic and clinical approaches currently being practiced. For this series we have selected a variety of trauma-informed clinical approaches that we felt would be useful for both practitioners and the public to get insight into how EFT is similar or different to these other techniques. We have carefully chosen clinicians who have either had years of clinical practice or are trainers in these other methods and who also are well trained and familiar with EFT in order to bring you a comprehensive perspective. Alina Frank and Dr. Craig Weiner interview Dr. Adriana Popescu about the similarities and differences between EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques Tapping and Brainspotting. According to the Brainspotting website, Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms. Brainspotting is a simultaneous form of diagnosis and treatment, enhanced with Biolateral sound, which is deep, direct, and powerful yet focused and containing. Dr. Popescu is a licensed clinical psychologist and empowerment coach with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. She is also a certified hypnotherapist, Access Consciousness® Facilitator, Brainspotting Practitioner, and Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) Practitioner, having discovered that Energy Psychology provides incredibly powerful tools to identify and eliminate the deep-rooted causes of suffering and distress. She specializes in treating addiction, co-occurring disorders, and trauma, and has directed a number of treatment programs in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is currently the Founder and CEO of Firebird Healing, a treatment center for people healing from trauma. Adriana has authored and coauthored a number of books, hosts a fascinating podcast called Kaleidoscope of Possibilities: Alternative Perspectives on Mental Health, and travels around the world coaching and facilitating transformational and empowering workshops. How many of us never got to witness or experience clean boundaries that were empowering in our families of origin? How many of us have suffered emotionally or even physically because we learned to put others needs ahead of our own and then felt resentful towards others and angry at ourselves for not being able to express or maintain healthy boundaries to have our own needs met? This episode looks at how setting boundaries can be triggers for some and healing opportunity for others especially when using EFT to turn them into the latter.

We often hear this phrase, that an EFT practitioner should meet a client where they’re at. We agree but what does that really entail? What kinds of circumstances or challenges might get in the way of that? Can the client be the problem in that scenario or is it more likely the challenge facing the practitioner? What kinds of obstacles might prevent a practitioner from consciously or unconsciously being able to do just that? What may interfere with clinically integrating a person centered approach into your work? Where do maintaining personal values come into play? What about vicarious trauma? It’s a great topic that we enjoyed exploring in this episode of EFT Nation.
