The City of Surprise is offering students in grades 6-12 the opportunity to participate in the Surprise Youth Justice Project (SYJP). The SYJP is a program committed to increasing the availability of restorative justice opportunities for teens and allows participants to learn more about the justice system and to serve as jury members in teen court. In partnership with Maricopa County and Surprise City Court, students participate in Teen Court, a diversion program for juvenile offenders. During Teen Court, a juvenile offender's actions are assessed by a jury of their peers, who then decide on the appropriate steps the offender...
