Are you (or someone you love) struggling with anxiety, depression, or thoughts of suicide? Exhausted from the emotional pain? If so, self-help author David Grant Miller has an important message for you: “You CAN do this. There IS hope. You are NOT alone. Please, don’t give up! For over 20 years, I’ve struggled with the very same things. At one point, I was hurting SO bad, I nearly attempted to end my life. But an unmistakable last-minute impression changed everything. I realized that I was worth something, and that my life was worth living. Those facts are true for you too! Before that experience, I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles that my future was utterly hopeless. But after 25 years of marriage to my beautiful wife, and 7 wonderful children later, I thank God I didn’t follow through with what would have been the biggest mistake of my life. I won’t lie and tell you that my mental health is perfect now, or profess to have the solution to every mental health problem on the planet. But I will tell you that after more than two decades, I have become intimately familiar with the principles that are at the heart of mental wellness, and I work my tail off to live them every single day. If you’re hurting deeply like I was, and if you’re willing to work hard to change, I’d love to be your guide on an unforgettable journey to regaining your hope, inner peace, and joy.”

In April of 2021, Oprah and neuroscientist and psychiatrist Dr. Bruce Perry released a phonomenal book entitled: What Happened To You?
The name of the book came from the fact that, in so many instances, when those with mental health challenges act kinda weird, people normally ask "What is wrong with you!"?
But, Oprah and Dr. Perry describe in detail that the better and more appropriate question: "what happened to you" almost always leads to the answer "trauma".
With that knowledge, EVERYTHING finally makes sense.
In this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, neuroscientist Dr. Fred Travis explains simply and briefly how trauma affects the brain and how Daily Mental Workouts Can Help Heal It.
This is an INCREDIBLE episode...don't miss it!

Isn't it wonderful to have people in our lives who really NEED us?
Often, we try heroically to access our inner superpowers in an effort to help someone who may be struggling with mental health challenges.
It might be a co-worker, a neighbor, a child, a girlfriend, a boyfriend, or even a wife or a husband.
No matter who that "someone" may be, sometimes our superhero efforts backfire, and the villain we are trying to help our loved one fight actually gets bigger and even more powerful!
In today's episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave explains what we often do wrong, and what we can start doing right in order to access our inner superpowers to help anyone we care about to CRUSH their inner villain and help them in their fight.

Sesame Street was a show we all used to love - right!
It was all about happiness and positivity...except for Oscar the Grouch.
This green guy who lived in a trash can rarely had anything positive to say.
In fact, whenever something positive or happy was going on in the lives of those around him, Oscar had a way of just bringing everyone down.
In today's episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave talks about how our "inner Oscar the Grouch" loves to bring US down.
However, unlike Sesame Street, who never did get rid of Oscar the Grouch (for very understandable reasons), Dave talks about how we can silence our inner Oscar the Grouch forever - and how doing this will contribute significantly to better mental health.

In this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave leads you step by step through a guided meditation session that will help you relax and ponder deeply on how you can accept, recognize, and be full of gratitude for all the incredible things in your life.

Meditation.
I used to think it was TOTALLY UN-manly.
And, as someone who likes to think that he's all about "manly", I decided that meditation was definitely NOT for me.
But, in a moment of desperation, my whole way of thinking about meditation totally changed!
I had become SO mentally overweight that my condition had become life-threatening.
And things were SO bad, I wasn't sure how long I could hang on.
In this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, I want to share with you my story of how meditation - quite possibly - saved my life.
More importantly, whether or not YOU are struggling with intense thoughts of suicide, or anxiety, or depression, in today's episode you will learn why you ABSOLUTELY NEED meditation, how to do it, and the 3 ways it will COMPLETELY TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE.
Contrary to what used to be considered a "fact", science has now proven that our brains CAN re-wire themselves.
This is SUPER exciting when it comes to mental health because it means that even though you may have dealt with some pretty challenging issues, there IS hope!
In today's episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave explains how having a focus on what we're grateful for re-wires the brain - simply and easily.
And, the best part: as your thoughts change from negative to positive and your life changes from challenging to manageable, your ability to deal with depression, anxiety, and more, will become stronger every day!
Bottom line: You will feel SO much better!
So, don't miss this VERY cool episode, and be sure to share it with at least one person you really care about.
For me, keeping a Daily Gratitude Journal has been an on again off again thing.
In the past I've kept kept one out of duty...but keeping it because I felt I "should" hasn't had the desired effect.
But, recently, after a few aha moments about how powerful gratitude can be changing our focus and bringing pleasure into our lives, something HUGE changed in my brain.
In this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor, I share with you how I got back on the Daily Gratitude Journal horse again, why it feels SO good, and why I am lovin' it so much I don't EVER want to get off!
The Fisher Wallace Stimulator is a wearable device that qualifies as a rapid therapy for depression, anxiety and insomnia.
That claim was made, and much more, when I interviewed Kelly Roman, the CEO of Fisher Wallace, on my podcast some time ago.
At that time I had one thought: "I wonder if this device could help me to have a "normal" life again.
After ordering the device, which comes with a 30 day money-back guarantee, and after using it for over 3 weeks now, I have my answer, and I'm SO excited to share it with you.
We all know we need it, so why don't most of us get enough of it?
And, when we don't get enough sleep, how does it affect our mental health and our relationships with those we love the most?
Is sleep really THAT important?
And, if it is, HOW do we go about getting more?!
In this exciting episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave discusses the answers to these questions from the one and only LeBron James.
It's not always easy to love those of us who struggle with mental health challenges, as Dave's wife of over 25 years can attest to!
But, it can DEFINITELY be a relationship game changer when everyone "feels the love".
In this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave discusses 3 ways to show that love - even when it's difficult - when a spouse or someone close to you needs your help.
While mindfulness is SO important, the reality is that our lives are controlled, to a HUGE degree, by our paradigms - mental programs that influence how we think and how we perceive our world.
And that keeps us from progressing and becoming successful in the areas that are important to us.
In this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave talks about what Bob Proctor preaches about paradigms - and reveals how to change them - in order to achieve the success we desire.

Do you ever get the sense that your mind is "wide open" - that your thoughts are going "full throttle"?
In today's episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller, Dave talks about the POWERFUL effect meditation has in slowing our thought processes down and helping us TRULY relax.
Through using the step-by-step process he describes - the one that has worked SO well for him, Dave explains how learning to slow your mind down will help you achieve a greater sense of balance, inner peace, and calm.
I'm SO excited for you to listen to this episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller so I can share with you all that I've learned about lessening the anxiety we often don't even realize is there.
If you're anything like me, loving yourself isn't on your list of things you've become super good at.
But, the great thing is, being aware of that fact is the first step in making the changes that will help turn things around in the self-love department.
In today's episode of The Mentally ill Mentor with Dave Miller we discuss 4 pretty cool methods that will be a HUGE help in helping you boost your level of self-love.
Doing this will not only help you achieve better mental health but it will also act as a catalyst for helping you feel a deeper sense of inner peace, hope, and happiness.
If your experience with controlling your emotions has been anything like mine, I have often asked myself: "What the heck is wrong with me?"
Observing my own emotions, and recognizing they are often very different and MUCH stronger than those of "normal people", has sometimes caused me to feel broken.
But after listening to Oprah talk about trauma (the subject of her new book), I now understand that a much better question to ask when it comes to troubling emotions is: "What happened to me?"
Instead of feeling broken or inferior, this question helps us understand that the "abnormal" emotions which often accompany poor mental health, are simply the result of some type of trauma.
And, knowing that, we can begin engaging in the work required to heal.

When it comes to advice on how to best deal with mental health challenges, things can sometimes get confusing.
So, how do you get clarity?
In this episode, I not only explain why some mental health advice isn't the greatest, and why, but how you can access the best mental health advice every time.
As the oldest child in a large family, and with a mom who struggled with depression, Angela got used to sharing the burden of taking care of her younger siblings when her mom simply wasn't capable.
But after her mom's suicide, Angela began carrying an emotional burden for her siblings that would take its toll over the next decade, a toll which caused her to be emotionally unavailable for her own children and her husband.
But after an unexpected invitation to a 12-Step Addiction Recovery Program from a trusted friend, Angela realized that the root of the problem was one simple thing: codependence.
Although she hadn't even understood what she was truly dealing with, as she followed the steps of the program, miraculously, she felt free from the emotional weight she had been carrying.
With that emotional burden gone, she found that her "emotional bandwidth" was now available for her to not only be emotionally available for her children and her husband, but to finally feel a deep sense of lasting peace and joy.
Even though nearly all the things we do are positive and good, it seems to be some kind of phenomenon that we often focus exclusively on the small number of things about ourselves that aren't so good.
In this episode, I share a quick, true story from my life that illustrates how important it is to focus on the good, and how important that is when it comes to achieving and maintaining good mental health.
When it comes to feeling depressed, I know - from decades of personal experience - how hard it is to "get over it".
The reality is, when you're in the middle of depression, you REALLY believe, in the depth of your heart and soul, that things will NEVER, EVER get better.
But, the truth is, these feelings can only exist when there is one MAJOR key ingredient missing in your life.
That key ingredient is...wait for it...PURPOSE!
PURPOSE transforms depression into hope.
It has worked for me, and it will work for you.
So, hang in there, my friend, find your purpose, and you will find your happiness again.
Below is an excerpt from Byron Katie's website, TheWork.com
As "Katie" (the name her followers usually refer to her as) began becoming more self aware, she began to question the false perceptions that were causing her to feel so awful.
And, as she did, her depression, self-loathing, and constant thoughts of suicide disappeared almost overnight.
If you've never heard of Byron Katie and "The Work" and how applying her 4 questions to any life situation can work for YOU, I invite you to go to "TheWork.com" and discover how what she learned can help you, as it has helped hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.
I will never forget the day, over 20 years ago now, that I left my wife and our two young children with the goal of finding, proposing to, and hopefully marrying Jessica Simpson. (Yes, THE Jessica Simpson!)
And, I will never forget how deeply depressed I was following my crazy manic journey to Nevada to look for her.
After "coming down" from my manic state of mind after a 3-week stay in a well-known and widely stigmatized local mental institution, I felt DEEPLY depressed and FULL of shame.
I had lost my job, made a complete fool of myself, and left the woman and children I loved.
Could my wife ever love someone like me - someone who had been officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder?
Would our children forever think Dad was a total goofball?
Would I ever be able to put my life back together, get a job, and end up being halfway "normal"?
Eventually I recovered, and life is great now, but STIGMA, that darn "S" word, made the whole process SO much harder than it needed to be!
In today's episode we talk my experience and some POWERFUL ways to say "who gives a rip!" to stigma so you can just get the help you need and get on with living your best life.
I remember well a former boss of mine who was always pretty "chill".
I now realize that bringing his dog to work most days must have been a big part of the reason.
In today's episode we talk about the big benefits of this seemingly weird practice, along with many other POWERFUL ways to to lower your stress and increase good mental health at work.
Nothing can prepare you for the suicide of someone so close to you and the devastation that follows.
After her boyfriend of 3 years took his own life, Germaine was reeling from the effects of the "emotional carnage" she experienced as she tried her best to cope with this heartbreaking tragedy and make sense of it all.
One of her greatest supports was her boyfriend's mother, whom she formed a strong bond with immediately following her boyfriend's death.
His mom became one of her greatest emotional anchors as she tried to maintain hope and as she struggled to move forward.
Three months later, however, her boyfriend's mom lost her own battle with deep depression and the intense temptation of suicide, and she, too, took her own life.
Feeling angry and desperately alone, Germaine was pushed to a breaking point and questioned whether she could even go on.
But go on she did!
Amid the heartache and sorrow, slowly but surely, and with the help of a wonderful counsellor, she was able to rebuild her life and regain her hope and happiness.
Today she is blessed to have a wonderful marriage, two beautiful young children, and a career she loves.
While Germaine's story is one of intense sorrow and tragedy, it is also one of incredible determination, strength, and pure and total courage.
Shaming is an AMAZINGLY effective way to elicit the behavior you want in your children.
How can I be so sure?
Sadly, I've been there, done that, even though I know it can be SO destructive to our children's self- esteem and self-worth and is at the heart of so many mental health challenges.
But there is SUCH a better way!
It's called "Celebrating" and it is POWERFUL in helping our children to not only modify their behavior, but to focus on and understand, at the deepest level, that we love them and value them for who they are, regardless of their behavior.
Ever experienced a shame spiral?
Your face may go red, your head may get a little dizzy, you might have a hard time concentrating on whatever it was you were doing.
Something has triggered a FLOOD of shame and you feel awful!
From personal experience, I KNOW how this feels, and, can I tell you, it's NASTY!
But there is hope in overcoming shame.
Today we discuss Brene Brown, famous shame researcher, and her fantastic advice on how to get out of a shame spiral and bring us back to the reality that we ARE - contrary to what we may believe in that moment - worthy of love and connection.
Living in this COVID world can be pretty tough some days.
And, for those of us who have a wonderful added feature in our lives - mental health challenges - life at this time can be downright difficult!
But be assured, there IS hope!
In today's episode, we discuss Jamie's sage advice about remembering that we grow the most when the game of life is the hardest.
I look forward to talking to you!
Love,
Dave
Come with me as I tell the true story of an experience I had today when our 9-year-old son solved a problem in 5 seconds that a seasoned expert worked on for over 40 minutes - all because Joe had personal experience and not just technical knowledge.
In a similar way, when it comes to mental health challenges and how to overcome them, experts aren't the only ones that know how.
While therapists and social workers have a lot of excellent advice, it's also SO important to listen to your gut and to trust YOURSELF!
Although I wouldn't dream of breaking my word to someone else, I realized recently that, for over 20 years, I've been in the bad habit of breaking my promises to myself!
I invite you to listen to my story and why I've made breaking my promises to ME a thing of the past, and why it is helping to build my self-esteem and self-confidence, and how it can do the same for YOU!
I typed at 100 miles an hour as Jamie Kern Lima, billionaire founder of IT Cosmetics, spoke LIVE on Zoom during a seminar I attended 3 days ago - I didn't want to miss a thing!
As she spoke, I was blown away!
Her TRUE story of triumph after SO many heartbreaking and insensitive rejections, is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Come with me as we talk about how to apply the principle of TRUSTING yourself - the thing that got her through it all - to YOUR life and YOUR efforts to achieve better mental health.
