Efforts have been growing to center Indigenous communities on what's historically known as Columbus Day. But does it extend to how we truly center and honor Indigenous communities in the U.S.? Although holidays are a simple and easy way to demonstrate solidarity, it’s not sufficient to tangibly change the inequitable conditions that Native people face. Take Action:

• Research the Indigenous communities that stewarded the land you live on today. Spend today learning more about their history and culture, and share with a friend.
• Donate to a local Native land trust near you to honor the legacy of stewardship. Learn more about the importance of land trusts here.
• Fight to disavow Columbus Day in your city and state. Do the research to determine the best course of action.
