Start your day off with a Bible verse from Solomon's Proverbs that also features a short exposition of what God's Word means and how we can apply it to our daily walk.
Ecc 5:6 Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved.
Ecc 5:7 Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead.

Ecc 4:13 It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice.

The God-Given Task

Who Shall Dwell on Your Holy Hill?

Ecc 9:1 For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God. Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.
Ecc 8:16 When I gave my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been done on the earth (even though one should never sleep day or night),
Ecc 8:17 and I saw every work of God, I concluded that man cannot discover the work which has been done under the sun. Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and though the wise man should say, "I know," he cannot discover.
Ecc 8:15 So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.
Ecc 8:14 There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.

Ecc 4:12 And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.
Ecc 4:7 Then I looked again at vanity under the sun.
Ecc 4:8 There was a certain man without a dependent, having neither a son nor a brother, yet there was no end to all his labor. Indeed, his eyes were not satisfied with riches and he never asked, "And for whom am I laboring and depriving myself of pleasure?" This too is vanity and it is a grievous task.
Ecc 4:5 The fool folds his hands and consumes his own flesh.
Ecc 4:6 One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind.
Ecc 4:4 And I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind.
Ecc 4:1 Then I looked again at all the acts of oppression which were being done under the sun. And behold I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had no one to comfort them; and on the side of their oppressors was power, but they had no one to comfort them.
Ecc 4:2 So I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living who are still living.
Ecc 4:3 But better off than both of them is the one who has never existed, who has never seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.
Ecc 3:21 Who knows that the breath of man ascends upward and the breath of the beast descends downward to the earth?
Ecc 3:22 And I have seen that nothing is better than that man should be happy in his activities, for that is his lot. For who will bring him to see what will occur after him?
Ecc 3:18 I said to myself concerning the sons of men, "God has surely tested them in order for them to see that they are but beasts."
Ecc 3:19 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity.

Psa 16:4 Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods.
Psa 16:2 I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.”
Psa 15:1 A psalm of David. Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?
Psa 15:2 Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts.
Psa 15:3 Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.
Psa 15:4 Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD, and keep their promises even when it hurts.
Psa 15:5 Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.
Psa 14:7 Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? When the LORD restores his people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.
Psa 14:4 Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD?
Psa 14:5 There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous.
Psa 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
Psa 14:3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

Psa 11:3 The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?”
Psa 11:4 But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.
Psa 10:17 LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
Psa 10:18 You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.
Psa 10:12 Arise, O LORD! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!
Psa 10:13 Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.”
Psa 10:14 But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.
Psa 10:15 Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed.
Psa 10:16 The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.
Psa 10:10 The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might.
Psa 10:11 He says in his heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”

Psa 10:4 In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
Psa 10:5 His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them.
Psa 10:3 For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.
Psa 10:1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

Ecc 9:1 But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him.
Ecc 8:16 When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on earth, how neither day nor night do one's eyes see sleep,
Ecc 8:17 then I saw all the work of God, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. However much man may toil in seeking, he will not find it out. Even though a wise man claims to know, he cannot find it out.
Ecc 8:15 And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.

A foolish person or a wicked person cannot contain themself, they have to broadcast their outrage.
A wise man though keeps the poker face and doesn’t fly off the handle.
You can also tie this into swearing, someone who can’t keep their rage in check tends to swear a lot, dropping F-bombs when something breaks or doesn’t go their way or calling someone who upset them a curse word behind their back or to their face, today’s Proverb tells us, these are hall marks of a foolish person.
On the other hand, as our Proverbs so wonderfully does - while it shows one end of the spectrum, in this case the angry fool, it also gives us the polar opposite; the prudent and God fearing person keeps their feelings to themself, because in the end that person knows that whatever vexing situation is at hand, it is God’s will, God is sovereign and God predetermined our circumstances before the universe was ever formed.
Good words to live by, especially in our everyday lives where a situation challenges us, we remember the fool can’t keep their cool, but the wise person is able to conceal their emotions.

Psa 15:1 A psalm of David. Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?
Psa 15:2 Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts.
Psa 15:3 Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.
Psa 15:4 Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD, and keep their promises even when it hurts.
Psa 15:5 Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.
Psa 14:7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.
Psa 14:6 The wicked frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the LORD will protect his people.
Psa 14:4 Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to the LORD.
Psa 14:5 Terror will grip them, for God is with those who obey him.
Psa 14:2 The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God.
Psa 14:3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.

As David is dealing with his enemies, it would seem that they have the advantage and David is quite discouraged as we read in our Psalms today:
Psa 13:1 For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?
Psa 12:7 Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation,
Psa 12:8 even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.
Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.
Psa 12:4 They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?”
Psa 12:5 The LORD replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.”

Psa 12:2 Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.
Psa 12:3 May the LORD cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues.
Psa 11:5 The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates.
Psa 11:6 Upon the wicked He will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup.
Psa 11:7 For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face.

Psa 11:2 The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right.
Psa 11:3 The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?”
Psa 11:4 But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.
Psa 10:17 LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
Psa 10:18 You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.
Psa 10:16 The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.

Psa 10:8 They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people. They are always searching for helpless victims.

Psa 9:5 You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
Psa 9:6 The enemy has come to an end in perpetual ruins, And You have uprooted the cities; The very memory of them has perished.
Psa 9:7 But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment,
Psa 9:4 For you have judged in my favor; from your throne you have judged with fairness.

Psa 8:5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.

Psa 8:2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

Psa 7:17 I will thank the LORD because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Psa 7:9 End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God.
Psa 7:6 Arise, O LORD, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice!
Psa 7:7 Gather the nations before you. Rule over them from on high.
Psa 7:8 The LORD judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O LORD, for I am innocent, O Most High!
Psa 7:1 A psalm of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush of the tribe of Benjamin. I come to you for protection, O LORD my God. Save me from my persecutors—rescue me!
Psa 7:2 If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion, tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
Psa 7:3 O LORD my God, if I have done wrong or am guilty of injustice,
Psa 7:4 if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause,
Psa 7:5 then let my enemies capture me. Let them trample me into the ground and drag my honor in the dust.
Psa 6:6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears.
Psa 6:7 My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.
Psa 6:8 Go away, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
Psa 6:9 The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD will answer my prayer.

Psa 3:1 A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me.
Psa 3:2 Many are saying of my soul, "There is no deliverance for him in God." Selah.
Psa 3:3 But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.
Psa 3:4 I was crying to the LORD with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah.
Psa 3:5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me
Psa 2:10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth.
Psa 2:11 Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling.

Psa 2:8 'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.

Psa 2:6 "But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."
Psa 2:7 "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.
Psa 2:3 “Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.”
Psa 2:4 But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.
Psa 2:5 Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.
Psa 1:5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.
Psa 1:6 For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
Psa 1:3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Psa 1:4 But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
Psa 1:1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.
Ecc 12:13 That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.
Ecc 12:14 God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.
Ecc 12:9 Keep this in mind: The Teacher was considered wise, and he taught the people everything he knew. He listened carefully to many proverbs, studying and classifying them.
Ecc 12:10 The Teacher sought to find just the right words to express truths clearly.
Ecc 12:11 The words of the wise are like cattle prods—painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.
Ecc 12:6 Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don’t wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well.
Ecc 12:7 For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
Ecc 12:2 Remember him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky.
Ecc 12:3 Remember him before your legs—the guards of your house—start to tremble; and before your shoulders—the strong men—stoop. Remember him before your teeth—your few remaining servants—stop grinding; and before your eyes—the women looking through the windows—see dimly.
Ecc 12:4 Remember him before the door to life’s opportunities is closed and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow faint.
Ecc 12:5 Remember him before you become fearful of falling and worry about danger in the streets; before your hair turns white like an almond tree in bloom, and you drag along without energy like a dying grasshopper, and the caperberry no longer inspires sexual desire. Remember him before you near the grave, your everlasting home, when the mourners will weep at your funeral.
Ecc 12:1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, "I have no delight in them";
Ecc 11:10 So, remove grief and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.
Ecc 11:9 Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do.
Ecc 11:7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
Ecc 11:8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
Ecc 11:6 Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both.
Ecc 11:5 Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
Ecc 11:4 He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
Ecc 11:3 When clouds are heavy, the rains come down. Whether a tree falls north or south, it stays where it falls.
Ecc 11:2 But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead.
Ecc 11:1 Cast your bread on the surface of the waters, for you will find it after many days.
Ecc 10:20 Even in your thoughts, do not curse the king, nor in your bedroom curse the rich, for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter.
Ecc 10:16 What sorrow for the land ruled by a servant, the land whose leaders feast in the morning.
Ecc 10:17 Happy is the land whose king is a noble leader and whose leaders feast at the proper time to gain strength for their work, not to get drunk.
Ecc 10:15 The toil of a fool so wearies him that he does not even know how to go to a city.
Ecc 10:13 Fools base their thoughts on foolish assumptions, so their conclusions will be wicked madness;
Ecc 10:14 they chatter on and on. No one really knows what is going to happen; no one can predict the future.
Ecc 10:11 If the serpent bites before being charmed, there is no profit for the charmer.
Ecc 10:9 When you work in a quarry, stones might fall and crush you. When you chop wood, there is danger with each stroke of your ax.
Ecc 10:10 Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.
Ecc 10:8 When you dig a well, you might fall in. When you demolish an old wall, you could be bitten by a snake.
Ecc 10:5 There is an evil I have seen under the sun, like an error which goes forth from the ruler—
Ecc 10:6 folly is set in many exalted places while rich men sit in humble places.
Ecc 10:7 I have seen slaves riding on horses and princes walking like slaves on the land.
Ecc 10:4 If the ruler's temper rises against you, do not abandon your position, because composure allays great offenses.
Ecc 10:3 Even when the fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking and he demonstrates to everyone that he is a fool.
Ecc 10:2 A wise man's heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man's heart directs him toward the left.
Ecc 10:1 As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink, so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honor.
Ecc 9:18 Better to have wisdom than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good.
Ecc 9:17 The words of the wise heard in quietness are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
Ecc 9:16 So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength." But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded.
Ecc 9:13 Also this I came to see as wisdom under the sun, and it impressed me.
Ecc 9:14 There was a small city with few men in it and a great king came to it, surrounded it and constructed large siegeworks against it.
Ecc 9:15 But there was found in it a poor wise man and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.
Ecc 9:12 People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.
Ecc 9:11 I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.
Ecc 9:7 So go ahead. Eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a happy heart, for God approves of this!
Ecc 9:8 Wear fine clothes, with a splash of cologne!
Ecc 9:9 Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil.
Ecc 9:10 Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.
Ecc 9:4 There is hope only for the living. As they say, “It’s better to be a live dog than a dead lion!”
Ecc 9:5 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.
Ecc 9:6 Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun.
Ecc 9:2 The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t.
Ecc 9:3 It seems so wrong that everyone under the sun suffers the same fate. Already twisted by evil, people choose their own mad course, for they have no hope. There is nothing ahead but death anyway.
Ecc 9:1 For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God. Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.
Ecc 8:16 In my search for wisdom and in my observation of people’s burdens here on earth, I discovered that there is ceaseless activity, day and night.
Ecc 8:17 I realized that no one can discover everything God is doing under the sun. Not even the wisest people discover everything, no matter what they claim.
Ecc 8:15 So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.
Ecc 8:14 There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.
Ecc 8:13 But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God.
Ecc 8:12 But even though a person sins a hundred times and still lives a long time, I know that those who fear God will be better off.
Ecc 8:10 And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.
Ecc 8:8 No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.
Ecc 8:9 All this I observed while applying my heart to all that is done under the sun, when man had power over man to his hurt.
Ecc 8:6 For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man's trouble is heavy upon him.
Ecc 8:5 He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure.
Ecc 8:2 I say: Keep the king's command, because of God's oath to him.
Ecc 8:3 Be not hasty to go from his presence. Do not take your stand in an evil cause, for he does whatever he pleases.
Ecc 8:4 For the word of the king is supreme, and who may say to him, “What are you doing?”
Ecc 8:1 Who is like the wise? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.
Ecc 7:28 Though I have searched repeatedly, I have not found what I was looking for. Only one out of a thousand men is virtuous, but not one woman!
Ecc 7:29 But I did find this: God created people to be virtuous, but they have each turned to follow their own downward path.”
Ecc 7:26 I discovered that a seductive woman is a trap more bitter than death. Her passion is a snare, and her soft hands are chains. Those who are pleasing to God will escape her, but sinners will be caught in her snare.
Ecc 7:27 “This is my conclusion,” says the Teacher. “I discovered this after looking at the matter from every possible angle.
Ecc 7:23 I have always tried my best to let wisdom guide my thoughts and actions. I said to myself, “I am determined to be wise.” But it didn’t work.
Ecc 7:24 Wisdom is always distant and difficult to find.
Ecc 7:25 I searched everywhere, determined to find wisdom and to understand the reason for things. I was determined to prove to myself that wickedness is stupid and that foolishness is madness.
Ecc 7:21 Also, do not take seriously all words which are spoken, so that you will not hear your servant cursing you.
Ecc 7:20 Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.
Ecc 7:16 So don’t be too good or too wise! Why destroy yourself?
Ecc 7:17 On the other hand, don’t be too wicked either. Don’t be a fool! Why die before your time?
Ecc 7:18 Pay attention to these instructions, for anyone who fears God will avoid both extremes.
Ecc 7:15 I have seen everything in this meaningless life, including the death of good young people and the long life of wicked people.
Ecc 7:14 Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.
Ecc 7:13 Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked?
Ecc 7:11 Wisdom is even better when you have money. Both are a benefit as you go through life.
Ecc 7:12 Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life.
Ecc 7:10 Do not say, "Why is it that the former days were better than these?" For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this.
Ecc 7:9 Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, For anger resides in the bosom of fools.
Ecc 7:7 Surely oppression drives the wise into madness, and a bribe corrupts the heart.
Ecc 7:6 A fool’s laughter is quickly gone, like thorns crackling in a fire. This also is meaningless.
Ecc 7:4 The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, While the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure.
Ecc 7:2 It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart.
Ecc 7:1 A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume. And the day you die is better than the day you are born.
Ecc 6:11 For there are many words which increase futility. What then is the advantage to a man?
Ecc 6:12 For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun
Ecc 6:10 Everything has already been decided. It was known long ago what each person would be. So there’s no use arguing with God about your destiny.
Ecc 6:9 Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecc 6:8 So are wise people really better off than fools? Do poor people gain anything by being wise and knowing how to act in front of others?
Ecc 6:3 If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, however many they be, but his soul is not satisfied with good things and he does not even have a proper burial, then I say, "Better the miscarriage than he,
Ecc 6:4 for it comes in futility and goes into obscurity; and its name is covered in obscurity.
Ecc 6:5 "It never sees the sun and it never knows anything; it is better off than he.
Ecc 6:6 "Even if the other man lives a thousand years twice and does not enjoy good things—do not all go to one place?"
Ecc 6:1 There is another serious tragedy I have seen under the sun, and it weighs heavily on humanity.
Ecc 6:2 God gives some people great wealth and honor and everything they could ever want, but then he doesn’t give them the chance to enjoy these things. They die, and someone else, even a stranger, ends up enjoying their wealth! This is meaningless—a sickening tragedy.
Ecc 5:20 God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.
Ecc 5:19 And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God.
Ecc 5:18 Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life.
Ecc 5:17 Throughout his life he also eats in darkness with great vexation, sickness and anger.
Ecc 5:15 We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.
Ecc 5:16 And this, too, is a very serious problem. People leave this world no better off than when they came. All their hard work is for nothing—like working for the wind.
Ecc 5:13 There is another serious problem I have seen under the sun. Hoarding riches harms the saver.
Ecc 5:14 Money is put into risky investments that turn sour, and everything is lost. In the end, there is nothing left to pass on to one’s children.
Ecc 5:12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.
Ecc 5:11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?
Ecc 5:10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity.
Ecc 5:9 Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.
Ecc 5:8 Don’t be surprised if you see a poor person being oppressed by the powerful and if justice is being miscarried throughout the land. For every official is under orders from higher up, and matters of justice get lost in red tape and bureaucracy.
Ecc 5:6 Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved.
Ecc 5:7 Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead.
Ecc 5:4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.
Ecc 5:5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.
Ecc 5:1 As you enter the house of God, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God.
Ecc 5:2 Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.
Ecc 4:13 It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice.
Ecc 4:14 Such a youth could rise from poverty and succeed. He might even become king, though he has been in prison.
Ecc 4:15 But then everyone rushes to the side of yet another youth who replaces him.
Ecc 4:16 Endless crowds stand around him, but then another generation grows up and rejects him, too. So it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecc 4:9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.
Ecc 4:10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
Ecc 4:11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?
Ecc 4:12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Ecc 4:7 I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun.
Ecc 4:8 This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.
Ecc 4:5 “Fools fold their idle hands, leading them to ruin.”
Ecc 4:6 And yet, “Better to have one handful with quietness than two handfuls with hard work and chasing the wind.”
Ecc 4:4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecc 4:1 Again, I observed all the oppression that takes place under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed, with no one to comfort them. The oppressors have great power, and their victims are helpless.
Ecc 4:2 So I concluded that the dead are better off than the living.
Ecc 4:3 But most fortunate of all are those who are not yet born. For they have not seen all the evil that is done under the sun.
Ecc 3:21 For who can prove that the human spirit goes up and the spirit of animals goes down into the earth?
Ecc 3:22 So I saw that there is nothing better for people than to be happy in their work. That is our lot in life. And no one can bring us back to see what happens after we die.
Ecc 3:18 I also thought about the human condition—how God proves to people that they are like animals.
Ecc 3:19 For people and animals share the same fate—both breathe and both must die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless!
Ecc 3:20 Both go to the same place—they came from dust and they return to dust.
Ecc 3:17 I said to myself, “In due season God will judge everyone, both good and bad, for all their deeds.”
Ecc 3:16 I also noticed that under the sun there is evil in the courtroom. Yes, even the courts of law are corrupt!
Ecc 3:15 What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before, because God makes the same things happen over and over again.
Ecc 3:14 And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him.
Ecc 3:13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to man.
Ecc 3:12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live;
Ecc 3:11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Ecc 3:9 What profit has the worker from that in which he labors?
Ecc 3:10 I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied.
Ecc 3:5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
Ecc 3:1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—
Ecc 3:2 A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
Ecc 2:22 So what do people get in this life for all their hard work and anxiety?
Ecc 2:23 Their days of labor are filled with pain and grief; even at night their minds cannot rest. It is all meaningless.
Ecc 2:24 So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God.
Ecc 2:25 For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from him?
Ecc 2:26 God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. This, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecc 2:21 When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge and skill, then he gives his legacy to one who has not labored with them. This too is vanity and a great evil.
Ecc 2:19 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is vanity.
Ecc 2:18 Thus I hated all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun, for I must leave it to the man who will come after me.
Ecc 2:16 For there is no lasting remembrance of the wise man as with the fool, inasmuch as in the coming days all will be forgotten. And how the wise man and the fool alike die!
Ecc 2:17 So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was grievous to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.
Ecc 2:12 So I decided to compare wisdom with foolishness and madness (for who can do this better than I, the king?).
Ecc 2:13 I thought, “Wisdom is better than foolishness, just as light is better than darkness.
Ecc 2:14 For the wise can see where they are going, but fools walk in the dark.” Yet I saw that the wise and the foolish share the same fate.
Ecc 2:10 Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors.
Ecc 2:11 But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.
Ecc 2:9 So I became greater than all who had lived in Jerusalem before me, and my wisdom never failed me.
Ecc 2:8 Also, I collected for myself silver and gold and the treasure of kings and provinces. I provided for myself male and female singers and the pleasures of men—many concubines.
Ecc 2:6 I made ponds of water for myself from which to irrigate a forest of growing trees.
Ecc 2:7 I bought male and female slaves and I had homeborn slaves. Also I possessed flocks and herds larger than all who preceded me in Jerusalem.
Ecc 2:4 I enlarged my works: I built houses for myself, I planted vineyards for myself;
Ecc 2:5 I made gardens and parks for myself and I planted in them all kinds of fruit trees
Ecc 2:3 After much thought, I decided to cheer myself with wine. And while still seeking wisdom, I clutched at foolishness. In this way, I tried to experience the only happiness most people find during their brief life in this world.
Ecc 2:1 I said to myself, "Come now, I will test you with pleasure. So enjoy yourself." And behold, it too was futility.
Ecc 2:2 I said of laughter, "It is madness," and of pleasure, "What does it accomplish?"
Ecc 1:16 I said to myself, "Behold, I have magnified and increased wisdom more than all who were over Jerusalem before me; and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge."
Ecc 1:17 And I set my mind to know wisdom and to know madness and folly; I realized that this also is striving after wind.
Ecc 1:18 Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain.
Ecc 1:14 I observed everything going on under the sun, and really, it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecc 1:15 What is wrong cannot be made right. What is missing cannot be recovered.
Ecc 1:12 I, the Teacher, was king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem.
Ecc 1:13 I devoted myself to search for understanding and to explore by wisdom everything being done under heaven. I soon discovered that God has dealt a tragic existence to the human race.
Ecc 1:9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.
Ecc 1:10 Is there anything of which one might say, "See this, it is new"? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us.
Ecc 1:11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come later still.
Ecc 1:8 All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing.
Ecc 1:9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.
Ecc 1:6 Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues swirling along; And on its circular courses the wind returns.
Ecc 1:7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again.

Ecc 1:2 "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity."
Pro 31:30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

Pro 30:21 There are three things that make the earth tremble—no, four it cannot endure:
Pro 30:22 a slave who becomes a king, an overbearing fool who prospers,
Pro 30:23 a bitter woman who finally gets a husband, a servant girl who supplants her mistress.
Pro 30:15 The leech has two suckers that cry out, “More, more!” There are three things that are never satisfied—no, four that never say, “Enough!”:
Pro 30:16 the grave, the barren womb, the thirsty desert, the blazing fire.
Pro 30:11 Some people curse their father and do not thank their mother.
Pro 30:12 They are pure in their own eyes, but they are filthy and unwashed.
Pro 30:13 They look proudly around, casting disdainful glances.
Pro 30:10 Never slander a worker to the employer, or the person will curse you, and you will pay for it.
Pro 30:7 Two things I asked of You, Do not refuse me before I die:
Pro 30:8 Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion,
Pro 30:9 That I not be full and deny You and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or that I not be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God.
Pro 30:5 Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Pro 30:6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.
Pro 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted.
Pro 29:22 An angry person starts fights; a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin.
Pro 29:20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Pro 29:18 When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
Pro 29:3 A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, But he who keeps company with harlots wastes his wealth.
Pro 29:1 A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.
Pro 28:27 Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.
Pro 28:21 To show partiality is not good, Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.
Pro 28:19 He who tills his land will have plenty of food, But he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty.
Pro 28:20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished.

Pro 28:1 The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion.
Pro 28:14 How blessed is the man who fears always, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
Pro 27:20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, Nor are the eyes of man ever satisfied.
Pro 26:1 Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool.

Pro 24:7 Wisdom is too lofty for fools. Among leaders at the city gate, they have nothing to say.
Pro 24:3 A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense.
Pro 24:4 Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.
