This Sunday, we continued in our series through the book of Romans on gospel questions answered. In today's sermon, we discussed the myth of personal autonomy and how we are all enslaved to something. We also learned that there is freedom in the right kind of slavery, that is, slavery to righteousness.
You must void middle ground; you can’t be part-way faithful.
This Sunday, we continued in our series through the book of Daniel in chapter 6. We have to ask ourselves, are we more like the officials, Darius, or Daniel. There is only one way to be like Daniel and that is to point to Christ.
We have two options: be humble or be humbled by the Lord.
This Sunday, we continued our sermon series through the book of Daniel focusing on the requirement of humility before God. God demands humility, and it's not easy to be humble. Those who aren't humble before God will be separated from Him and the only way to find true humility is in Christ.
There's a difference between acknowledging God and actually believing Him.
This Sunday, we heard from our Student/ Worship Pastor, Andrew Porter on Daniel 4. We discussed how we can declare the kingdom of God within a secular culture. We found that humility is the heartbeat of the kingdom of God and it begins with reverence.
Sometimes you charge into the battle. Sometimes the battle charges into you.
This week, we continued our sermon series through the book of Daniel, discussing faith in a secular age. The cost of your faithfulness to the Lord is that you could lose social capital and safety, but the benefit is that you will gain your life. The effect of your faithfulness on those around you—it’s undeniable.
God is sovereign and will supersede the kingdoms of this world.
This Sunday, we continued our series through the book of Daniel with chapter 2. This chapter reveals how every kingdom and every king is placed and displaced by God alone. All kingdoms of this world are temporary, but God's kingdom is unfailing.
This Sunday, we started our new series through the book of Daniel, Part 1: Faith in a Secular Age. Like Daniel, we have been thrust into a non-believing/secular world that wants to convert us. We respond to this by being faithful to God while living in this secular world. The result is that God is honored and the world around us is blessed.
Why is there so much sin and death?
Because we are like Adam. Which is why we must have a better Adam, Christ! This Sunday, as we continued in our Gospel Basics series through the book of Romans, we gain a better understanding of how Jesus has conquered sin and death. Christ, the better Adam super-abounds over sin and death.
Have peace with God, or no peace at all.
With the holidays quickly approaching, we need peace now more than ever. Todays sermon discusses the only way to have peace is through Christ. Christ makes peace with God for us and now all there's left to do is enjoy that peace.
This Sunday, we continued our series through Romans on the promise of faith. We discussed the promise that Abraham's offspring would be heirs of the world, and that the promise is for us as heirs of Abraham and believers in Christ. We grow stronger in our faith because of this promise.
Faith saves, but you have to have the right faith.
In today's sermon, as we continue in the book of Romans, we will discuss the true definition of faith and what it means to live by your faith. True faith is very specific and it will affect how we live.
Salvation is free, but not like you think...
This Sunday, we continued in our Gospel Basics series through the book of Romans on the topic of salvation. Salvation belongs to God and He gives it to man. In light of salvation, we should live in humility and obedience.
This Sunday's sermon explains the heavy weight of sin in our lives. None are righteous and nothing we do is considered right. This hard truth leads us to repentance and the good news of Christs' finished work on the cross.
This week, as we continued in our Gospel Basics series through the book of Romans, we saw how God's righteousness always prevails. We simply can't do without the righteousness of God that prevails through and over people. The unbelieving, unrighteous, and untruthful will experience the wrath of God. Through Christ we are made right.
This week we finished up Romans 2 as we continued in our sermon titled "God Does Not Play Favorites" as a part of our Gospel Basics series. In this chapter, we learned that there is much goodness in the law of God. The law cannot make us good, but God makes us good through Christ and because of that, we carry out the law of Christ.
We continued our Gospel Basics series reading Romans 2:1-16 and discussing how we are unfit to judge. God judges everyone with true equity, whereas we do not have the ability to do so. If your heart has been made new in Christ, you don't have to fear God's judgement and you don't have to fear man's judgement.
This Sunday, We finished up chapter one of the book of Romans as we continued our Gospel Basics sermon series. We discussed the wrath of God as the consequence for our unbelief and the hope of Christ for those who trust in Him. This Sunday we gathered together as one body for a special outdoor baptism service as we continued our Gospel Basics sermon series through the book of Romans. As Christians we are bound to one another in gratitude, prayer, in person, and mission. And we are bound by the gospel!
This Sunday, we started a new sermon series in Romans called Gospel Basics. As we go through the book of Romans we will learn more about Paul, the gospel, and who we are in relation to the gospel. The gospel simply is that God is holy, we are not, God sent Jesus to give his holiness to us, and we must believe to be accepted by God.
God's given us a cheat code.
Christ already knows perfectly and has already done everything perfectly! Those who hear and obey (know and do) the words of Christ will stand in the storms of the world and in God’s judgement.
There are two roads (and only two roads) leading into eternity; which do you travel?
Which road will you walk into eternity, life or destruction? There is no third option. In this weeks sermon, we continued in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. We discussed how to know which path is the right path and how to know if we are on the right path.
God is not withholding anything good from you.
Doesn't it feel that way sometimes though? In today's sermon, we will be discussing how to get God's best. You don't have to pay God with enough faith or ask exactly the right questions to get His best. You just have to go to Him!
Is it ever ok to judge?
This Sunday, we continued our series in The Sermon on the Mount on when and how we are allowed to judge. We must start with judging ourselves first, removing the plank from our own eye before the speck in another. You also have to care for your brothers and sisters in Christ rightly, knowing when to back off.
We must fight the urge to treasure this world. Pastor Josh continues our series in the Sermon on the Mount discussing storing up treasures on earth. We were made for a different kind of world and have no need to store up treasures in this world.
This Sunday, we continued our series on the Sermon on the Mount with Matthew 6:1-18. Jesus tells us we should practice our good works in private, not looking for approval or validation for others.
Give your enemies what they don't deserve.
The same way God gives you what you don't deserve. Refrain from retaliating against your enemies and in order to do that, you have to love them. Pray for them to receive God's grace and blessing and then live out your prayer. That's how we love our enemies.
Live a yes and no kind of life.
In this section of The Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is showing us what the world ought to be, and in contrast, what it actually is. The truth is that we don't live in a yes and no kind of world. and if we did, it would be considered paradise. As Christian's we are called to live a yes and no kind of life. Follow along with the sermon to learn more about what that looks like!
Everyone who is angry with his brother is guilty of murder.
Jesus defines murder in the sermon on the mount. Anyone who has anger toward another person and anyone who "insults" (diminishing the value of an image bearer of God) has a seed of murder in their heart. The truth about murder is that it earns judgement, it is defined by Jesus and in order to avoid judgement, we have to trust in Jesus.
We must keep and teach every single Old Testament commandment...
through Jesus! The only way for us to keep, teach, and understand the OT is through the lense of Jesus. Jesus didn't do away with the OT, He accomplished it. Without Jesus it is impossible to fulfill the righteousness required by the Law, but He came to accomplish the Law.
Christian, show the world heaven.
How do we live as a children of heaven in a world that does not know heaven? We remember our role as ambassadors of heaven. The world will know our love for Christ by our presence (being salt) and by our adherence to the truth (we are the light).
Hear the impossible good of Christ and be glad. This Sunday we focused on the beatitudes in Jesus Sermon on the Mount. We are convicted to not seek the worlds joy, those who have experiences the world's pain are comforted, and we are strengthened to find the difficult road to pure joy in the Lord.
This Sunday we began a new sermon series titled "Christianity Without Hypocrisy" where we come to find that Christianity is not doing something, but being something. This sermon focuses on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount which is a glorious picture of what it means to truly be everything God has made you to be. We discussed human flourishing and walking with Christ.
Pastor Josh covers Numbers 32 and gives practical applications from Scripture on knowing if our plans are God-honoring. First, we need to seek counsel from people who know the Lord and not be surprised when they disagree with us. We need to receive their counsel with humility and follow their advice. We can't be offended by their loving oversight. Christ equips His church for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12), and we have the church's people to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:12) as we do so.
This week, Pastor Josh covers Number 31 and how we can see God's goodness in His vengeance. God's Word is always good in good and bad circumstances, and we can see His grace in every situation. We must remember God in His vengeance and that He will lose no one who is part of God's people. No matter what, we serve a good God who keeps His promises forever.
This week, we continued our series on the Book of Numbers, covering Numbers 26-30. The next generation in Numbers needed the right kind of leader, they needed to know how to worship rightly, and they needed family structure. The two things we need to know about the next generation are that they are in our midst and that they are taking their inheritance seriously. Our next generation has the same needs that Israel had in the wilderness.
This week, we continued in our series on the book of Numbers reading Numbers 25. In this passage, we hear about how Phinehas stands up for righteousness and stops God's plague of judgement on Israel. Some key takeaways: In this spiritual war, the greatest weapon against you is your own; your own desires really are that dangerous; God’s grace really is that marvelous.
This Sunday, we continued discussing the passage in Numbers on Balaam and the talking donkey. We read Numbers 23 and 24 as a continuation of last weeks sermon on Numbers 22. In every battle we face, we know who wins and we are on His side.
On Palm Sunday, we continued our series in Numbers as we read Numbers 21. We discussed five habits that lead to God-honoring victory. These habits were praying God's heart back to Him, gazing upon Christ in the midst of defeat, taking time to praise God, walking the path God puts before you, and trusting the God of victory.
This Sunday, we continued our series in Numbers, reading chapter 20. We looked at four tough situations and solutions to each. When provisions are lacking, trust God. When people are frustrating, trust God. When your path seems blocked, trust God. When your desires are denied, trust God. In conclusion... trust God!
This week, as we continued in our sermon series on numbers, we read Numbers 18 and 19. We must recognize that we are in a land of death without being consumed or defined by death. This dead world is not our prize. Our prize is the living God. Since the living God is your prize, separate yourself from this world of death.
This Sunday as we read through Numbers 17, we discussed what it looks like when God picks the right leader and how we should respond. Some points were, God makes his mercy known and because of that, there is no reasonable excuse to deny Him. In the face of His mercy, how will you respond?
This Sunday we continued our series on the book of Numbers, looking at Numbers 16. Some points were that when God puts leaders in your life, let them lead and use all your gifts in submission to God's will. Whether you let God's leaders lead or try to stand in the way of God's leaders, you don't get to call the shots.
This week as we continued in our sermon series through numbers, we focused on chapter 15. We asked the question, how do I focus on God? The answer was to decide to be a part of a group that focuses on God, know what you are focusing on, know who God allows to focus on Him and give God your first and best. We asked other questions like, what if I lose focus on God and how do I regain and strengthen my focus on God?
This Sunday, we finished our three-part series, a Smorgasbord of Complaints, where we focused on complaining leaders. Some major points discussed were: charge boldly, but not blindly into God's promises, when it comes to God's promises, how you proceed shows how you believe, and if you won't run toward God's promise and be saved, you will perish—and he is glorified either way.
We continued our three-part series "A Smorgasbord of Complaints" with a sermon titled Complaining Friends. We walked through Numbers 12 and find that Miriam and Aaron file a complaint against and God hears it, Miriam and Aaron’s complaint is completely out of line, and God does not let the complaint slide.
This week we started a three-part series titled A Smorgasbord of Complaints. We focused on Numbers 11 looking at how the people of Israel responded to God's provision. The faithless will find fault with God's provision and the faithful may also find fault with God's provision. God's response to our response to His provision is that the faithless will get what they deserve, the faithful will be spared what they deserve, and the faithful will learn to tell the difference between God's provision and God's punishment.
This scripture-heavy sermon is a crash course on the first 10 chapters of the book of Numbers. We find that God's mission is to make His glory known to all the world. He prepares a people for his mission, all people are affected by His mission, and if you are God's people, you are called to affect the world with His mission.
We kicked off our new sermon series in Numbers with a book overview where we found that the book of Numbers is more than just numbers. Some key points we discovered were: your greatest blessing is to know and be known by God, your gravest mistake is to reject God, and your glorious calling is to follow God.
This Sunday as we walked through the end of Ephesians, we discussed spiritual warfare and what we should do in response. Some realities:

This week, we continued our Together in Christ series as we read through Ephesians 5:22-33. We discussed what a faithful marriage looks like. For wives - you are to support your husband so he can be the man God called him to be. For husbands - you are to be the man God called you to be. Why is faithful marriage such a big deal? Because it is a picture to the world of Christ’s love for the church.
This Sunday, we continued our Together in Christ series walking through the book of Ephesians. The sermon from today was part 3 of Knowing Right and Living Right, as we read Ephesians 5:15-21. In this sermon, we discussed ways that we can use our time wisely. Some ways in which we can do this are:

This Sunday, we continued our Together in Christ sermon series by reading Ephesians 5:1-14. This sermon was Part 2 of "Knowing Right and Living Right" and was concerned with sex. As we read through Ephesians 5 we found that we need to put sexuality in its proper context - the gospel. The secular world didn't invent sex, so don't let them tell you how to do it. And don't simply refrain from sexual immorality; expose it for what it is. Some steps that we can take in exposing sexual immorality:
•Step one—turn from the darkness of sexual immorality (v. 7).
•Step two—turn toward the light of Christ (vv. 8–10).
•Step three—confess sin (vv. 11–14).
This Sunday, we continued our Together in Christ sermon series as we read Ephesians 4:17-32. This week's sermon is about knowing right and living right as we relate to one another.

This Sunday, we read Ephesians 4:1-16 and discussed unity in the Church. In order to be unified, we must make practical efforts to promote unity in the church. We have to be careful that we are promoting unity and not uniformity. We were then asked, how do we know when we have achieved unity?
This Sunday, as we continued in our Together in Christ series, we focused on the mystery of Christ in Ephesians 3. The church is a part of your prize in Christ. He gave us messengers of God's grace, His Word, the Scriptures, and each other. The church is your voice of worship across the cosmos, and is your launching pad to God.
This Sunday, Pastor Josh walked us through Ephesians 2:11-22, as we discussed what it means to be an insider and an outsider in the faith. A few questions to consider while reviewing the sermon are

Being an insider has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Christ! To be an insider it takes the blood of Christ, the completion of the Old Testament Law, and the creation of a new kind of human.
This Sunday, we walked through Ephesians 2:1-10, as we continued in our Together in Christ sermon series. There is life for the living! We are all born into sin and death, but God gives us life! He gives life to you and to your work. Other scriptures mentioned were Romans 5:12 and 17.
This Sunday, we continued our Together in Christ series about Shared Blessings as we read through Ephesians 1:15-23. A lot of our points from this Sunday centered around prayers. We should thank God in prayer for the genuine believers around us. We should pray that truth would abound in our fellow believers and pray for the shared work of the church. Some other scriptures mentioned were Ephesians 5:19-20; 6:18 and Hebrews 6:7.
We kicked off our Together in Christ series this week by reading through Ephesians 1:1-14. Pastor Josh shared with us that we can bless God by receiving His blessings, we can be encouraged by God's greatest blessing (which is Jesus), and we can enjoy God's blessings together with the blessed of God. Other scriptures mentioned: Psalm 116:12-13.
This week, we concluded our Christ the Greater sermon series as we read the last chapter of Hebrews. Hebrews 13 focuses on Christ as our greater love and truth.
What should we do with love? We should live it. What should we do with truth? We should know it. How do we keep from straying from love and truth? Remember why we do what we do.
This week, Pastor Josh Wootton walked us through Hebrews 12, where we continued in our Christ the Greater sermon series. This week's sermon centered around how Jesus is our greater life. A life in Christ is a life of endurance, discipline, and peace.
This week, we are encouraged by the faith that we have in Christ as we go through Hebrews 11. Faith allows you to see God properly, which then allows you to see the world and relationships properly and allows you to navigate circumstances properly. Other scriptures mentioned: Colossians 1:15; 2:9, Hebrews 1:3, and John 14:9.
This week we are reminded of the great work of Christ as we cover Hebrews 10. Jesus is the greater sacrifice, priest, and covenant. His work is greater than all and makes all of our work great as we draw near to Him and hold fast to our confession. As we focus on Jesus, we are to help others set their eyes on Him.
We cover Hebrews 9:1-15 and note God's holiness, man's inadequacy, and Christ's perfection. The Tabernacle of the old testament has been replaced by a perfect and accessible sanctuary in Christ. Scripture calls us to respond to this truth.
We cover Hebrews 6:13-7:28 and the history of God's covenants with humanity - Creation, Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, and Davidic. These Old Testament covenants were based on people who could not keep them, yet now, through the new covenant, we have one based on Jesus. Through this new covenant, God's promise in Christ can be His promise to you.
We continue our Christ the Greater series with Hebrews 6:13-7:28. Pastor Josh reminds us that we need a God-sized hope that must be understandable to man. God provided us with that hope through Jesus, who exceeds any and all of our expectations! What a glorious reminder that the Old Testament priesthood was meant to lead us to a higher priest - Jesus Christ!
Pastor Josh continued the Christ The Greater series with Hebrews 5:11-6:12. He shared how we are called to grow in our knowledge as Christians. Yet, some people are spiritually malnourished and have forgotten that Jesus is better. Jesus is perfect and His work is perfect. What a glorious reminder of the true reality we have in Christ.
Pastor David continues our Christ the Greater series with Hebrews 4:14-5:10. Scripture lays us bare and shows us how we are accountable to God. Yet, Jesus who was qualified not only his humanity, but in his appointment by God, acts as our high priest. Our response to this grace should be to hold fast to our confession and draw near to God's throne. Jesus is our greater high priest who gives us unprecedented, unrestricted access to God the Father.
Pastor Andrew guides us through Lamentations 3 and how it shows that God is able to handle our lament. He is our portion and Jesus is enough. No matter what life may throw our way or the situations we are faced with we can rely on Him in the middle of the battle!
Pastor Josh finishes the We Are sermon series with John 21:20-25. In a world where we all follow something or someone, we are called to follow Jesus. We have heard the truth from His own Word and of the great hope we can have through Him. Jesus Himself calls YOU personally to follow Him!
Pastor Josh covers John 21:15-19 and how our love is destined for failure. Yet we can have hope because Jesus turns our failed love into unshakable love. His love never fails despite our love failing to love Him perfectly. Our total failure requires total restoration which we are given when we accept Jesus Christ.
We continue our We Are series with John 21 and how we are confirmed in our belief. We must not only decide who Christ is, but who we are in response to Christ. As we decide who we will be, we must not look at ourselves, but look to Christ the founder and perfecter of our faith.

We continue our We Are series with John 20:24-31. The world may scare us into FOMO but as God's children we need to be reminded that we won't miss out on anything our Father has planned for us. Our God gives second chances and is calling us to be obedient to His call. God never stops pursuing us and wants to use us in this world. Pastor Josh finishes John 16 and how we should be full of joy & peace! Learn what true joy is and how we can get it in this world! There is no religion that can give us what Jesus does and there's nothing in this world that can take away our joy!
Pastor Josh covers John 16:4-15 and how as Christians we've been blessed with belief! Since the truth of Christ is too profound to receive in our own understanding we need help. The Holy Spirit has been sent to tell us the truth about our sin and to guide us in all truth. Thank God we have been given a Helper so that we can be saved and so that we may glorify God.
Pastor Josh kicked off the We Are sermon series with John 15. He explained the evidence of Christ’s love revealed in Scripture. Jesus gave His life for us, made known the Father’s will, and chose us so that we may give our life for others. It is Christ’s love that sustains us in this world, even when we are hated. It is Christ’s love that will carry us until the day we meet Him face to face!
Pastor Anthony shared a little glimpse of what our students learned this past weekend at the Student Collective Conference. He covered Romans 12 and how we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind. We need to remember our born-again name so that no matter what we experience in this life we can remember who He calls us to be. Are you being shaped by the world or are you being shaped by Jesus?
Pastor Josh covers John 15 and how God gives meticulous attention to those who belong to His kingdom. As we live for His everlasting kingdom and abide in Christ we are promised to be fruitful, saved, and equipped. As we are grafted into the living vine for His glory, His mission becomes our mission!
When fear grips us it can cause us to lose hope. It can paralyze us and soften our stance on our moral imperatives. Yet, through Jesus we can take courage in the face of death and in the face of life! If we stand on the promises of God's Word we will be able to proclaim the gospel boldly and live life with a courage that is meaningful.
Pastor Brian's last planned sermon at FBCW was a special reminder indeed! He shared how we must rely on our relationship with Jesus Who is the only way, truth, and life. He is the only One who can save and who can direct us on the road of life. Praise God for the truth that sets us free!
We continue our I AM series with Pastor Brian Autry sharing on our Good Shepherd! Like sheep, we are helpless creatures who need Jesus to save us. The story in John 10:11-18 shows us through Jesus' own words that He cares for us and seeks us out. He lays down his life and is willing sacrifice His life for His sheep. What a Great Shepherd we have in Jesus!
We had a special Sunday at FBCW as we launched our Family Care Ministry! We learned how families matter to God and how the church is God's answer to adoptive care, foster care, pregnancy care, and special needs. A panel opened up our time by defining each of these categories and Pastor David Rhymes followed up the discussion with a message on "I Am The Door." When we enter the door that Jesus opens for us we can find salvation, security, and provision.
Pastor Josh Wootton delivers a message from John 8 and how Jesus offers us the light of life. In a world where the darkness seems to win, Christ shines and conquers the darkness. If we have accepted Christ we are also now the light of Christ to the world.

It is only upon our trust in Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior that we can begin to have life and share that life with others!

We kickoff the God Is Able sermon series with Acts 3:1-10. Pastor Brian reminds us that the name of Jesus has the power to make you well, to get us to heaven, to produce answered prayer, and to enable us to battle evil! As Christians we cannot forget the power we have through Jesus to make impact in our own lives and in the lives of others.
Pastor Jeff Meyer delivered a powerful message on forgiveness. As christians we need to forgive because we have been forgiven. However, more than just sharing the forgiveness that was given to us we need to acknowledge how resentment can make us miserable. Holding onto a grudge, even if it may stem from real hurt, can only make us bitter people and draw us further away from our walk with Christ. In our relationships with one another we also need to accept how we will need forgiveness in the future so we may as well extend each other forgiveness now.

Think about this. For all its cruelty and sinful brutality, Nineveh was ready to turn to God. The people didn’t know it, they weren’t consciously aware of their need, and they weren’t intentionally looking for God. But God who sees all things knew that this vile city was primed and ready to turn to him. If only he could find a man–the right man with the right message–who would dare to go there and deliver his message. (Smith)
He cares more for the worker than for the work. If all God cared about was Nineveh, he could have gotten someone else. But he wanted Jonah to confront the evil in his own heart and to see something of the great love inside God’s heart. God doesn’t need Jonah, but Jonah desperately needs God. And we can say more generally that God doesn’t need us but we desperately need him. It takes a lifetime for most of us to grasp that truth. (Smith)
No matter how much we run, disobey and choose the wrong direction, God is ever gracious to His people even in His discipline.
Jonah’s confession is like a mirror in which you will see the struggles and enigmas of your own inner life. This man was a prophet, a mature believer who had given his life to a widely appreciated ministry in which He spoke the word of God with clarity and power, but still he struggled with the impulses of his own self-interest.. Pursuing a God-centered life won’t make your struggles easier; it will make them harder. Are very nature is to choose our self and to run away from God.
