Community is a word that’s used in a lot of different contexts.  We talk about our school communities, the neighborhoods we live in as communities, our business communities ...  For each of those places, there are different rules and expectations for what community will look like.  To help focus our conversation this morning, let’s start with Highrock’s definition of community:

God is other-oriented community: Father, Son, and Spirit. Though sin has isolated us, every individual is invited to be reconciled to God and God's family on earth, which is the Church. We cannot fully experience or reflect God to the world unless we are in committed community with others who belong to God. God saves us through Christian community.

Whew … that’s rich … and dense, right?  Rather than talk through this line by line, I’d like us to look at a story from scripture that gives us a beautiful snapshot of what defines community.  What kind of community does Jesus model for us? Who are we invited to choose to be?
