Last week, I randomly came across a quote about how one of racism’s purpose is to distract— to basically get you fixated on one thing long enough to keep you occupied until the next thing comes along and steals your attention.

For days, the words in that quote remained a fixture in my mind. What was so resonating was the fact that although they were said nearly 44 years ago, I was able to (with relative ease) apply them to the racial issues of today in a way that is both unique to younger generations and all too familiar to older ones. The person who spoke with such profoundness is literary treasure, Toni Morrison. ♥️
