The Original Siamese Twins: An American Story

Conjoined by a thin fleshy band at the base of their abdomen, Cheng and Eng Bunker were the first conjoined twins to be called “Siamese twins.” They came to America in the 19th century, touring the country as indentured servants, in "freak shows." They also later owned a plantation, supported the confederacy, owned slaves, and fathered 21 children. This is their complicated story.
