Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, say the current conditions in Burundi are not conducive for a free and fair election to take place. The situation remains tense in Burundi despite President Pierre Nkurunziza having postponed the local and parliamentary elections from May 26 to June 5. The country was plunged into crisis after Nkurunziza announced that he would contest the scheduled June 26 presidential elections for a third term. He has since survived an attempted coup. Meanwhile, members of the Pan African Parliament have slammed the African Union for not acting against President Nkurunziza. Burundi was among the issues that dominated deliberations in the first week of the sitting of the continental parliament in Midrand.
