As the furore surrounding the unsafe buildings in the City of Johannesburg continues - residents of Newclare and Westbury west of the city - have spoken out about the dilapidated state of their flats. They say many residents have been injured due to the unstable structure and falling bricks. The flats have not been maintained for years and some of them looks like they could collapse any time. The problem of unsafe buildings which dont comply with health and safety standards came under the spotlight with the recent fire that gutted the Bank of Lisbon building that used to house three Gauteng government departments. An investigation has since found that close to ten such government buildings are not in a good state and are non-compliant. Chantal Thompson reports...
