Suspended Head of the Department of Health in Gauteng, Dr Barney Selebano has given contradicting answers on whether or not Premier David Makhura knew about the transfer of patients to NGOs. Selebano also said he will not resign over the bungled Esidimeni relocations, which resulted in the deaths of 143 mentally ill-patients. He maintains that the decision to terminate the Life Esidimeni contract was a cost-cutting measure, and that he regrets not listening to warnings against the move.
