Trade union Solidarity says the Department of Health in Gauteng had limited access to families visiting their mentally-ill relatives at the Cullian Care and Rehabilitation Centre in Pretoria since May last year, to hide the disaster that was unfolding. The Life Esidimeni Arbitration probing the deaths of 141 mentally-ill patients yesterday heard that the facility was over-crowded, with almost double its 150 capacity. A social worker at Cullian, Daphney Ndhlovu, told the hearings that they were instructed to take more patients than they could care for. Wisani Makhubele reports....
