The community of Westbury, west of Johannesburg is calling for the Sophiatown police station which services the area to be shut down. They allege that 80% of the officers at their local police station are in the pockets of drug lords. There's been a spike in deadly drug-related shootings in the area in recent months. Authorities estimate that as many as 30 people have been killed over the past two months alone. The community is now living in fear due to random gunfire as a result of an ongoing feud between rival drug lords. Residents claim officers are turning a blind eye to the crimes because they're allegedly taking bribes from the perpetrators.
