A Zimbabwean mother who was detained for three days in dingy police cell with her breastfeeding infant has lodged a two hundred and fifty thousand (250 000) Rand damages claim against the Police and Home Affairs. In July, Priska Mhlanga was detained at the Tembisa Police Station over an expired police stamp on a certified copy of her Assylum Seeker Permit. Her nine-month-old baby became ill after being exposed to the abject conditions. It was only after Lawyers for Human Rights approached the High Court in Pretoria, that Mhlanga and her baby were released. Senior Constitutional Court Reporter, Candice Nolan has the details.....
