A group of scientists that were stranded in the Dr. Fridtjof Nansen marine vessel when the Covid 19 hit in March, have finally been able to fly back to their home countries. The scientists from Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, the Gambia and Spain were half way through a voyage off the coast of northwest Africa, when countries closed their borders in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Led by the Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, the Nansen is the only vessel to fly the United Nations flag. It has been conducting deep-sea research since 1975.
