Phumi is an NAACP Image Award Nominated South African writer/director based in Los Angeles. She is passionate about redeeming the Black and feminine identity through cin-ema. She enjoys exploring the female gaze's influence on telling intimate, human stories of ordinary heroes and women

Phumi’s short film, Lakutshon ’Ilanga (When The Sun Sets), has been shortlisted in the Live Action Short Film category of the 94th Academy Awards and is Nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
